May / June 100 Word Anonymous Challenge Discussion

The guessing game has been (slowly) going on for more than 2 weeks. Time to move on.
Also, only 2 of the 27 contributors participated in the guessing. That is disappointing and perhaps not enough to keep the others waiting (2 weeks) before they can discuss their stories.
Two separate threads is a possibility, but I fear the guessing game will only suffer more.

I'll call the Guessing Game officially over.

I usually participate in the guessing game, treating it like a logic problem. However, there's been a bit of footy on recently which has distracted me somewhat from my Chrons duties :D

@Daysman , I loved your story Difficult Hats, but I don’t understand the title. Where did it come from? It must be a reference to something more than the story itself…?

Just noticed your question — odd that I didn't get an alert?

Meh...

The title came from the 300 word SF version of the story, never submitted, inspired by an image of the interior of a rundown theatre.

It has a narrator whose role is to pursaude the performers to accept their reanimation.

The narrator's existence is actually more precarious than theirs, and their stress and resentment towards him at being returned to life is quite pointed.

The narrator mentions that, in this distant future, they print everything, even their costumes, but that hats are difficult...

As soon as this arrived in the conversation, I knew I had the title, given all the available metaphors and smilies associated with hats... but I've not seen difficult hats anywhere.

Glad you liked the tale.

Like I said, I loved it. The thrill of recognition when I realised who you were writing about really charmed me, especially when you seemed to know something of their relationship. Did that come from the recent movie, or did you know about Laurel and Hardy anyway?

Nooooo, I've no particular knowledge of Laurel and Hardy as they were in life — I did see the biopic, but that's a whole other conversation.

Your question's gotten me thinking about historical figures in fiction...

It sounds odd, but even in these small challenges, I don't think I'm really comfortable with it.

See, I don't even assign names to fictional characters, not usually, and I didn't here, thinking I was dealing with unattributed architypes... but I really wasn't, was I?

Anyhow... have a good Sunday!
