DISCUSSION THREAD -- JANUARY 2022 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Last wednesday my router gave up, leaving me not having voted in the seventy-five word, nor finished retouching my entry for the three hundred. I telephoned my 75 word vote to my sister's partner, who signed in as me and posed it in the poll ( not that it made any difference) and rhen saturday the new router crawled through my letterbox, and, having persuaded it to communicate, decided to forego further 'improvements on my 300, and entered it 'as was'.

In addition to my regular thsnks to Parson and Victoria for their continued revues, nice to see World of mutes joining in, and individual thanks to Bowler (sorry, haven't swung a pitchfork infifty-five years) Guttersnipe and Starbeast for their mentions.

Well... well done Peter V with a super clear winner this month and a comfortable romp home and 12 votes. Good job, I'm chuffed to bits for you so enjoy the glory that is yours this month. Like all glory it is fleeting, but for today, who cares... you won!

I have made note of chrispenycate at least being familiar with the pointy end of a pitchfork, so I'm making progress here. This site is all about chasing impossible dreams, of succeeding despite all the difficulties we face in the world. So I'm not giving up on my mob, it will happen, I just need to find a cause to make everyone really, really... really mad. Then we can all run around venting and setting things on fire, the fun bits to any mob. Yes... I have a dream....

Congratulations to Peter V.

My entry, as I am sure you are aware was about the connections that can form on a group like this. My biggest worry was that I could not put everyone in it, but with only 75 words there were only so many spaces and inevitably there were some I really wanted to put in and couldn't.

But those who appeared Hobb Dragon was member IceFyre who I am now very good friends with despite living about as far away as possble (in the UK).

Mobius was myself, we were often joined by Sloweye in our mischief, but he was one that would not fit.

The Sprite was Nixie (sorry Nix) but there were better options for an alternate name, but I was rushed in the writing.

Axe was Chopper.

Roller was Bowler1.

And as they were waiting to be adjudicated, The Judge must have been involved somewhere.

Goblin Princess was Teresa Edgerton.

Orange - HoopyFrood

Rodent - Mouse

and rather lacking in imagination, Zebra was The Dusty Zebra.

Finally Crunchy was Chrispy with a sneaky throwaway mention to Kipling for the long talked about challenge he set all those years ago.

I did want to include others most notable Parson, Ursa, Paranoid Marvin, Rosemary, Pyan, the late Gary Compton and, of course Brian. (And many others I really should mention).

I used to be one of the most active members, but over the last few years that has slowly dwindled, until I have barely squeezed a story out each month, not really commented on the other stories, and barely a post of congratulations. With life becoming busier and more tragic my time has been eaten away and the effort I have put in as been negligible to say the least with something dashed off at the last minute.

And perhaps because of this, I have realised I am not enjoying it as I once did.

And so, as the end of the story indicates I am going to take a break from the challenge. This is something that could become permanent, I don't know, but it effectively means taking a step away from Chrons too. I have been a regular in the challenge for longer than I care to remember and part of me aches at letting go, but it is sometimes for the best.

(I know there is also the 300 worder, and I have not missed an entry yet. But I haven't come up with anything this month and I'm into hours now. If I do continue it will be a sudden entry and stealth vote.)

I have loved my time and interactions here, and will miss them, but I have hardly been here anyway.

So... I was going to take the Biscuit Barrel with me, but I'll leave it where it belongs for now. ;)

Be seeing you...

I felt like before Christmas and decided retirement was the only way to go - hence my "So long and thanks for all the fish" last line in December 75 discussion thread.

@Dan Jones and @Phyrebrat 's podcast saved me somewhat, although due to work I'm barely writing these days.

So, remember, you can always stick on a toupee and a dinner jacket, for you should... never say never again :)

Pep I picked up on most and the Kipling reference. Although I missed out on the hobb dragon for some weird reason I thought Marky.

Yes the biscuit barrel remains safely in my custody.

I'd did start a story for this month, then gave up.
Here's what I did do;

Do you know who I am?
My home in Kent had a secret door. I kept a raven as a pet, inspiring Poe to write a poem.
My wife was a novelist, although not very good. Ten children I sired.
You may think of me at Christmas time.
I died and left a mystery unsolved.

Yes, Dickens

Having taken a long sabitical myself, I know a break is sometimes needed - I was AWOL for almost 5 years I think.

With that thought in mind, it's not good bye to Perp, who has been one of my SFF buddies from the start, but see you again soon.

And don't stop writing, keep plugging away. Otherwise you'll lose a hobby as well, and that won't do for your sanity - questionable at best, even at the best of times.

With a sniffel and while trying to smile, Bowler1 sends Perp nothing but the very best.

You will definitely be missed by me. However I understand that person needs some time to themselves, like @Bowler1 (whom I missed too) and myself.

The last five years of my life were rough and tough, but I did feel better by dropping in CSFF when I could where our friends are. My situation and self have improved greatly. I'm still busy, but I feel great about life again. So I'm back to normal with God's help.

Take all the time you need my friend. We'll always be here for you.

For those who haven't caught it yet, Peter's winning story is now up on Episode 2 of the Chroncast, read beautifully by Chris -- more details about the episode here Chronscast Season 1 Episode 2 - Klara And The Sun with Jo Zebedee

If you're pushed for time and you want to go straight to the story, it's 58.13 mins into the podcast -- but do remember to go back to the beginning when you've more time to hear Jo's talk.

Starbeast, have a pitchfork and we'll run around prodding stuff (not Judge, she prods back) and blow off steam. We don't have to chase anyone, just see what lurks in the dark corners of this place and poke it to see if it bites back - if it does bite back, stay close to me because I'll be running away. I know I left a rusty shopping trolley around here somewhere and we could whizz around in that for a bit too. Then drop by my shooting range and blow stuff up. All harmless fun and nobody should get hurt, but if they do, stay close to me because I'll be running away.
