DISCUSSION THREAD -- JUNE 2022 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

This was a great topic that 'sprouted' many great concepts. Here were my favs:

Short-List
@reddishbird - Sweet Revenge - This tale, dark and grim, really struck a 'cord' with me
@Hugh - Human Condition - crafty how nature was used in this story as a symbol of man's nature
@AnRoinnUltra - Why I HATE writing fantasy stories - a relatable tale of the struggle us writer's have with our characters. At least you have control of them - unlike teenagers

Runner-Up
@The Judge - Herb Law - Like a branch yearning for sunlight, some rules cannot be broken, but bent far enough to gain new shoots

Vote
@Bowler1 - Luck never made a man wise - Tomorrows is guaranteed to no one. Unless you sign for this limited time offer!

I'm truly delighted to have received several listings. Many thanks indeed @chrispenycate , @johnnyjet , @Wayne Mack and @Bren G , you've really added a zing to the day.

I hope to vote tomorrow, but am finding the final decision difficult. Meanwhile I need to concentrate on the final stages of a curry.

Thanks for the vote @Bowler1 A case of Weedol is on its way to you, I hope it's not too late.
And looks like I was just in time to thank @Christine Wheelwright your kind words mean a lot to me, thank you

I loved reading everyone's entries this month, so many different ideas and plants explored.
I narrowed my list down to three.

@BT Jones —A well spun tale. I hope the wise Garisto lives a happy life atop his Elixira tree.
@The Judge —A surprisingly wholesome and well crafted revenge story has grown from a clever combination of herblore and herb law.

and my vote went to...
@Aknot —I thought this was a beautiful story with a great moving last line. Loved this idea.

Well, I think this month's entries have been of particularly high standard. For me, any of my top five could have won in another month.

However, I voted for @Ursa major 's play with Yggdrasil: so imaginative and well crafted.

The other four on my shortlist, in no significant order, but all excellent:
@The Judge
@Bowler1
@johnnyjet
@AnRoinnUltra

And these others caught my eye for one reason or another
@Christine Wheelwright
@Phyrebrat
@Daysman
@Starbeast
@JS Wiig

And, most importantly, many thanks indeed @Phyrebrat for your vote and comments. Very much appreciated.

First, a thank you to therapist for the inspiring genre/theme choices. Also, well done to Parson and Victoria Silverwolf for the fine reviews. It's a lot of work each month, so thank you.
Also, having set up a few polls in my day, I know how much work that takes, too. Thanks to Ursa major for the polls each month.

Great month for stories, all! Here's my shortlist:

Victoria Silverwolf, Aknot, AnRoinnUltra, johnnyjet, Parson, Starbeast, EPT Henry, Hugh, Ursa major

I cannot remember the last time I had such a tough time selecting a winner. I thought from day 2, and as soon as I read it, that I would be voting for Christine Wheelwright's bittersweet tale, but then on day 23 things became less clear, because The Judge's story is really terrific. But by the thinness of a scream on the wind, my vote went to Christine. But wow, I wish I had two votes this month. Great stories, CW and TJ.

I want to thank Ian Fortytwo again for voting for my entry, and huge thanks to Stable, for the listing. Looks to be close down the stretch, good luck all, CC

Quick message, sent from my holiday address :My vote went to The Weeping Williws- Christine Wheelwright.

I'm not the restrained type so waiting in the wings is not my style, but I think I can relax now. I will give my thanks to some people in a wee while, but for now it's time to let off some steam and get my pitchforks out.

Whose up for some mob mayhem???

There's one thing to be said for Bowler1, he is amazingly consistent and never gives up on a lost cause.

A florally arboreal anthology (in the old sense!) of stories this month! My shortlist:

Aknot -- The Rooting -- I loved the poignant last line
Cat's Cradle -- Oak and Adze -- a bittersweet tale
comradeogilvy -- For the love of Carya -- romantic or unnerving, I'm not sure!
Elckerlyc -- The Greenery Convenes -- made me laugh!
johnnyjet -- Willow Braids -- a willow's gift or a willow's revenge?
Phyrebrat -- The Fruits of Dunsynain -- horror in the woods
scarpelius -- Mon... the oaks say the maples are stupid and weak -- a mother worries and waits
I've only just realised that so many of the stories which spoke to me this month dealt with mothers and their concern for their children, and it's one of them that gets my vote -- Aknot's last line swung it.

I'm gobsmacked my herbarium story attracted so much attention. So moonflower and burrage thanks for the lovely mentions/shortlistings BTJ, MRG, johnnyjet, sule, Parson, Ian, Bren G, therapist, Hugh, Stable and CC! And bridewort and lad's-love thanks for the wonderful votes Victoria, Chris P and nixie! And for the ninja votes EPT Henry and ckatt!
