DISCUSSION THREAD -- OCTOBER 2022 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

That's a very good closing line, @paranoid marvin! I think it must have a second meaning * which adds a punch, well done, CC

*edited to delete what I saw as the 2nd meaning, for the sake of future readers

The subject gave me an idea immediately,:) but it isn't Gothic :(
I might put it in the improving thread to see how it might have gone down, if that is allowed?

Gothic architecture is a good reference to the drama and hysteria of gothic fiction but I’d be somewhat surprised if Lovecraft writes in a gothic style. His floridity comes across as more like overwrought purple prose than gothic.

I like Lovecraft but I’m trying to think of a story off the top of my head that he’s written that counts as gothic. The only one I can think of is The Music of Erich Zaan.

Yeah, I noticed Lovecraft had only parts.
This is why I got the idea to go “building a gothic cathedral” story, but word limit binds too much…
I think I am back to Edgar Alan, but I have to google every other word he makes…
But kinda it does feel like challenge…

Day 3, I am already in! And I have no idea from what hidden corner that came forth. Or even if it Gothic-ish.

Got one done, not what I originally planned. That came out at 150+ words with no chance of editing. Will resist my normal urge to post and sit on it for a bit. No doubt I'll fiddle and make it worse.

@BigJ .... Thy Maiden of Retribution .... Reminds me that we only see through a glass darkly and need enlightenment.

@Christine Wheelwright .... By Candlelight .... Reminds me that some things really need to be done in the dark.

@Victoria Silverwolf .... The Man Who Hated Fire .... Reminds me to believe in Guardian Angels.

@paranoid marvin .... Walled Up .... Reminds me of a Cask of Amontillado I once read about.

@Guttersnipe .... Folie à Deux .... Reminds me that people have different attractions and that there might be someone for everyone.

@Elckerlyc .... Those That Should Have Moved On, While They Had the Chance .... Reminds me that everything fears something.

@therapist .... Guilt .... Reminds me that there comes a time when one no longer wants to rise.

I think my total exposure to gothic literature has been Bram Stoker's Dracula, and that's it for me. A good book in the end, but not likely to help me out much.

I may be gone a while, I'm sure I'll be missed.

About that, there is no doubt. No forgets pitchforks and peasants.

@Aknot .... It Isn’t Over Till The Fat Girl Bites .... Reminds me that there really is such a thing a blood lust.

@AnRoinnUltra .... The Witch of Lompydonk Farncastle's dreams .... Reminds me that not everyone gets the ending they are expecting.

@VRlass .... What be… with me? .... Reminds me that it's possible to feel a whole range of human emotions in a single event.

@THX1138 .... Remitto .... Reminds me that the dream world really is not the real world.

@Ian Fortytwo .... Gothic Tale of a Disastrous Dinner for Two .... Reminds me that sometimes dinner begins and sometimes it ends with a delicious bite
