DISCUSSION THREAD -- AUGUST 2023 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

@JS Wiig .... Apparel to Die For .... Sometimes you don't want to know the answer to the question, "Who had this first?"

@mosaix .... Moments in Time .... Sometimes there are occasions that you'd rather not dress for.

@M. Robert Gibson .... Over at the Headquarters of The Ancient and Honourable Guild of Barbarian Heroes .... Sometimes you have a hero dressed like, well like, like, oh, something else.

The Muse tapped her wand on my head yesterday.

After I floated around outside and plummeted back to Earth, I formulated a tale today.

Parson looks around and finds @Starbeast who has plummeted back to earth with a formulated tale. :giggle:

---------

@Starbeast .... Meeting of Prof Foster and Dr Zart .... Sometimes what's invisible is not and sometimes it is.

I'm in, and with what must be one of the speediest entries I've ever managed, since 90 minutes ago I didn't have anything like a story** and thought I'd have to miss the Challenge.

As for the title, don't try making sense of it -- it just popped into my head and made me giggle. (I can hear Sid James saying "With two Effs")

** lots of daft ideas but no story out of any of them -- variants on The Tailor of Gloucester, psychopomp seamstresses, AI milliners, and a newly created angel getting her white robe and asking if it made her wings look big. I think it must be the coffee catching up on me.

Well I'm in. I must say I struggled with ideas for this one. Who would've thought something as common as clothes would be so tough, considering I wear them most days. But seriously, I think that makes for a great challenge. Anyone else struggle or did everyone have ideas flocking like the salmon of Capistrano?

The challenge is now closed to new entries. The poll will be along soon.

@BigJ ..... The Flame and the Prey .... Sometimes the prey isn't exactly what it seems.
*Bonus points for rhyming the title with your Avatar Handle.

@Christine Wheelwright .... Hazing in The Earth Diplomatic Service ....

@chrispenycate .... Tricking treat ....
Sometimes the price is right and somethimes it isn't.

@The Judge .... Putting the F Into Effigy .... Sometimes the doll needs to be dressed appropriately, whatever that might mean.
*Bonus point for writing a title that still has me chuckling.

@Bren G .... Careful What You Wish For .... Sometimes the clothes make the woman.

@Ursa major .... No Escape from a Self-Woven Prison .... Sometimes everything you want is all sewn together.

Hats off to all the entrants. Was a fun batch of stories this month.
There were two stories that stood out for me.

Hazing in The Earth Diplomatic Service by @Christine Wheelwright
Wash On Monday, Iron On Tuesday by @Victoria Silverwolf

I can't choose between them. I've read them both a dozen times and they are both perfect. I will read them again later and see if I can come to a decision then.

I had no inspiration but good to see that plenty of you did. There were some similar ideas and recurring themes, but each handled in their own unique way.

So, in order of entry, these were my particular favourites.

@ genelewis ok, it's a take one the Emperors new clothes but I liked the visibility with wisdom take and the status of one wise enough to dispose of the trip hazzard. HSE would be proud

@ reiver33 horrible twist from a sly antagonist. Well written too (and brave because I have noticed darker entries garner little support)

@ AnRoinnUltra for its originality and accurate portrayal of the simplistic Martian lifestyle (if you doubt me, pay Mars a visit)

@ Yozh Got to watch out for those sentient hats, especially the ones that instigate a terminal succession.

@ Cat's Cradle another deliciously dark and somewhat disturbing offering. Classy punchline seals the deal.

@ johnnyjet nice little twist but I do hear myself shouting; "Just take the damned cloak off man!"

@ Sphinctus Bogstrider I don't know... something about the perfect build up to the complete anticlimax we got to share. It worked.

@ StilLearning The Emperors clothes but updated to show a previously unthought of consequence of the con.

@ M. Robert Gibson enjoyed this light hearted tale that hints that embellishing ones CV might be for the best. Sometimes.

@ Parson I have to mention this because I simply could not imagine a tale like this coming from Parson. It's still putting a smile on my face

@ Christine Wheelwright what may have started as a prank, certainly appeared to have corporate benefits. Maybe even for Perkins if he is lucky!

@ chrispenycate this is beautifully constructed and so evocative. It captures a moment perfectly.

@ Bren G Builds to a nice reveal which shows our princess that her love was not so true to her but merely for her status

I am quite honestly torn between all of these and whilst typing this up have changed my mind three times about my vote already. I shall let it percolate a bit...

While hard, I've narrowed down to three.

@johnnyjet - The Cloak of Insignificance - It's hard not to root for the little guy
@Astro Pen - Rocket Stage - Proves that all the world's universe is a stage
@JS Wiig - Apparel to Die For - Now, I've been almost choked to death by a well tied Windsor, but this??

AP squeaked out the win. There can only be one of course!
