DISCUSSION THREAD -- December 2023 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

@mosaix .... Tools of the Trade .... A story that helps us understand that sometimes magic is in having a good plan and working it.

@Daysman .... The Forgotten Feast of the Penitent Scribe .... Even in a magical world nothing is forever, or even lasts through the night.

Does Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' fit the bill?
I would say definitely not. It takes place in other worlds where there is plenty of magic and supernatural creatures. I'd say it's just as much a fantasy as The Chronicles of Narnia.

@Astro Pen I found Stalker (1979) on YouTube and downloaded a copy. Very interesting.
So, is Stalker Magical Realism or more Psychological Realism? Just asking. :) They seem kind of close to each other in a way.
What is Psychological Realism?

@Provincial It’s a highly character-driven genre of fiction writing, as it focuses on the motivations and internal thoughts of characters.
Think A Clockwork Orange, Blade Runner, The Turn of the Screw, The Catcher in the Rye.

Always with me, and usually in a low slung holster - for extra style, not for a quick draw.
Judging by your very round yellow physique I would suppose that your low slung ray gun is on the floor somewhere.

@JS Wiig .... Winter Festival .... A story that helps us understand that some magic is just more magical than others.

I probably should not have been surprised by this but when I first logged onto here and entered the 75 challenge there were maybe 10 stories? Then I came back 10 days later and there’s a lot more… I don’t know why that surprised me-is that just me as a newbie? Lol

:) No, it does work that way, you're fine! We hope to get another ten or so before deadline (might be fewer, as people are busy this time of year). Nice to see a new face in the Challenges, CC

My experience has been (and I pay a lot of attention to this because I review all the stories!) that there will be a rush of 7-12 stories in the first 2-3 days, then they will trickle in at about the 2-5 stories a week range, and then there will be a large number of them in the last two days, maybe another 7-10 stories.

In the early years of this challenge and it's been going on more than 10 years now. We'd get a minimum of 42 stories (we got that number several times) and it would range up to the low 60's. In recent years there have been fewer stories. Now I'd guess the average is something just below 40 stories a month. My guess is that we won't crack 30 by much this month. It could be a record low.

@Elckerlyc .... Not-a-Christmas Carol .... Here we have a story of a cracked Christmas, or a cracked Santa, or at least something cracked.
