DISCUSSION THREAD -- March 2024 -- 75-Word Writing Challenge

Why? Why give me this insane challenge. That's like a crimson scrap of material to a male bovine.
Why did you have to highlight this Judge-produced mischief? If you hadn't, I would have remained blissfully unaware of it (as I usually only glance at the theme and genre).

I note that Wiktionary has dozens and dozens** of definitions of the verb and the noun (and let's not even think about the numerous synonyms), so it would be hard to fit a decent number of them even in a 300-worder.

** - The precise number is a matter of personal opinion regarding how close some of them are to each other.

I'd suggest we spring into action... but I'm a bit sprung out today.

@Phyrebrat .... Widow’s Walk .... A story which helps us see those who try to stride the divide which is never crossed.

Counter to my usual practice — and advice — I’ve put my entry in early. Bearing in mind the genre I didn’t want to risk doubling up on a myth that’s already been someone’s inspiration.

Now I just pray there’s no mistakes.
That’s why I usually end up posting early rather than late - the risk of wearing the same dress as someone else to the party.

When I met up with an old friend a while back, it was immediately obvious something was wrong. Instead of smiling as we greeted each other we stood eyeing each other up and down with horror, as we simultaneously realised we were wearing tops made of exactly the same material and pattern. The cuts were slightly different on the neckline and sleeves, but that actually made it worse - we looked like a pair of sad, middle-aged sacks who had tried to dress up as twin sisters, and failed.

We immediately found reasons to reschedule, and I haven’t worn that top since.

There's a happy one, *sigh*. Look forward to reading, and voting, in a few weeks. Good luck, all, with your stories, CC

edit - darn, I hadn't checked my title when writing my story, and only thought to do so now, after posting it. I've discovered that 'The Fifth Season' was a book by N.K. Jemisin, which I hadn't heard of before. I don't think I'll take the time to change the title, and will hope the coincidence of names isn't off-putting.

@donrmontgomery .... The Legend of a Spring Child .... This story reminds us that the simplest things are also the most profound.

@AnRoinnUltra .... Old Ways .... This story helps us to see that everything is weird in its own way.

@Luiglin .... Tuilë laire .... a poem that forced me to consider spring as a word in all it's glory.

I was beginning to think I'd have to skip this one. Then the most obvious answer came to me. I'm not creative enough to come up with an original myth.

@Guttersnipe .... A Lencten to Remember .... A story which points out that the old things leave if only somewhat wistfully.

@mosaix .... Nature’s Promise .... A story which lifts up the persistence of the bad and of the good.

Phyrebrat: They also suffer who only stand and wait.

Cat's Cradle: The past is not always prologue.

donrmontgomery: There is something both old and new under the sun.

AnRoinnUltra: Maturity is wasted on the mature.

Luiglin: It's the singer, not the song.

Guttersnipe: Out of mind, out of sight.

mosaix: Keep your friends close, and your frenemies closer.

Umm, OK, I have just googled “leather thong” and I have got the idea now…
