DISCUSSION THREAD -- MAY 2024 75 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

You still have until midnight GMT tomorrow, so there's no need to rush unneccesarily.

I'll make my vote decision tomorrow along with my list of unmentionables mentioned runner-ups. ;)

Good Challenge, everyone! I enjoyed reading through the stories.

I have a long shortlist. Also, there were stories I enjoyed despite not being sure they hit the theme (I wasn't sure about my own entry :)).

So, the lists:

Shortlist:
Victoria Silverwolf, chrispenycate, genelewis, AnRoinnUltra, Phyrebrat, Drone Zone, Christine Wheelwright, Lacedaemonian, paranoid marvin, The Judge, Bren G

Vote:
I went for johnnyjet's moving entry - well done!

Thank you, M. Robert Gibson, Christine Wheelwright, and Phyrebrat for listing my story!
Huge thanks to Bowler1 and Luiglin for the votes! They were unexpected, but greatly appreciated.

Still a close race... good luck all, CC

Wow, great stories!

fwiw my shortlist: Victoria Silverwolf, Bowler1, Johnnyjet, Astro Pen, Luiglin

vote: AnRoinnUltra

As this is my first effort here (I think I am still the newest newbie) I am gratified I garnered at least a vote ;D Thanks @Astro Pen!

Already looking forward to more contests and getting further involved, what a great community!

Great stuff, I reckon they are a consistently good crop of mini stories to read through and learn from. Have been doing the challenges for a few years and find they thread writing together by giving a small monthly target to keep your practice going when life gets busy. Your health to compete in many more (y)

My collection of floral beauties this month:

BigJ -- We therefore commit this body to the ground,...
BrenG -- Happily Never After
Cat's Cradle -- Shameless Dentistry
chrispenycate -- And the little girl woke up
johnnyjet -- I Remember Forget-Me-Nots
mosaix -- You're My Best Mate You Are...
rebee -- Hyperborea
Another month of back and forth as I re-read and reviewed the stories, and by the thinnest of green leaves, my vote goes to BigJ for a tale of arboreal tradition and oaken justice.

Many Balladeering Heartease Thanks for the lovely mentions shortlistings Phyrebrat, CC and Starbeast!

You have one of my favourite plant names in there... I'm sure you can guess which one it is :D
Well, as I know you like Edward Thomas's work, and I'm convinced you would love southernwood with its strange distinctive smell ("I cannot like the scent,//Yet I would rather give up others more sweet,//With no meaning, than this bitter one.") I'll go for Lad's Love, though Thomas refers to it as Old Man Old Man by Edward Thomas | Poetry Foundation
