I'd agree with this, if only for its historical importance. Right up there with Fritz Leiber's Conjure Wife, which tackles witches. (*cough*). On the whole, a lot of the fantasy first published in the 1940s in Unknown, prefigures today's urban fantasy, walking a line between fantasy and horror.

I had heard about over the years at one point I had paperback edition which got lost .Then years later ,I got hardcover edition of this book for Christmas gift . I started reading the book and couldn't put it down . Williamson nows how a spin a really good tale .

I try not to offer anti-recommendations, but, man, a few of these can go a loooong way. I have the first collection of them from Night Shade, and only made it halfway before giving up. Also, maybe less Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson than Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings.
