Martha and the 2022 Silmarillion -- a lovely gift. I thought this might be just an attractive edition, but it's a corrected text as compared to the original edition and the old Ballantine mass market paperback (1979, mine one acquired in 1998), so I'm delighted about that. The picture's a little blurry because I had to act quickly to get book and cat together. Martha was rescued from an uninhabited house as a small kitten a few weeks old late this past summer. She's about seven months old.

I came across Offutt as a teenager when I read one of his Conan novels. It was not very good. It turns out he was a strange character with odd predilections. A few years ago someone on Chrons linked to a fascinating and quite sensitive article written by Offutt’s son, after clearing his deceased father’s office, trying to make sense of some rather difficult aspects of his father’s personality and literary output.

Me too. Conan was my contact with Offutt, but he was primarily a pornographer from what I understand.
