Book Hauls!

Maybe try softening the glue? Hairdryer?
I've read this too about removing sticky labels. Use hairdryer to soften the glue and peel it off gently. It won't work if it's a plain paper cover. If it's a "shiny" cover (i.e. is coated with something) then your chances of getting the label off is better. My mother used to use benzene to get labels off but this sometimes rubs off the colour of the cover if you use too much or get too enthusiastic.

The other option I read, was to put the book in the freezer so the glue gets brittle and then the label should fall off. I think this depends on the type of glue used on the label.

I'd love to know what sort of troglodyte would put something over the title of a novel!

I have had luck by putting the book in a freezer. If you have one with a temperature control put it down to at least -20 C. Let it sit for a week and then try carefully removing the sticker. Be sure to put the book on something that will keep it dry and away from your food.

I usually blow on it as I peel slowly. Or if it's really stuck wet with a cotton bud (Q top) and gently peel. Another way is to freeze it, which is how you remove chewing gum

So which books have you recently spent your hard earned cash or pocket money on :)

What little gems couldnt you resist and ended up on your bookshelf:D

I have to be careful with my pennies these days so the only books that get onto my bookshelves (yep got more than one) now are my favourite authors works.

There was a special offer on (last week) at the book club I am a member of and I've sent for -

Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen by Garth Nix
Grass for his Pillow and Brilliance of the Moon by Lian Hearn
.
Havent' got them yet but eagerly awaiting them :D
Got 15,571 Sci-Fi books on my laptop I haven't read yet. In terms of affordability though, I usually start on Kindle at 99p/c and store those for later for a price reduction. Otherwise I get most from the library of course free. I go to a writers group now so am beginning to appreciate better prose.
