Who will rule in Westeros at the end of ASOIAF?

Yossa, thanks for the rebuke, I'm glad you called me on it. I don't want ever casually dismiss another person's life like that.

let me type this slowly so you understand...

I'm reading this late at night and I just woke everyone up with my laughter. Aegon, that joke was very worthy.

if the unlucky event of a early death would arise. Kinda like what the son of Tolkien did
This sounds to me like a 1950's B horror movie "Son of Tolkien!"

Wert, interesting thought on Garlan. How involved are each of the Tyrells? Loras is too rash to be more than a pawn for Olenna and the other thinkers. Margaery is strong, yet quicker thinking. Mace seems somewhat obtuse. Garlan may indeed be in the thick of the plotting. And everyone says Willas is intelligent, patient, thoughtful... sounds kind of like Doran.

Aegon, Dany as liberator, not of the Baratheons or the Lannisters, but of The Other, hmmm... interesting. I'll have to think on this some more.

There's more going on with Margaery than has been let on so far. She definetly is under the direct influence of the Queen of Thorns. Apart from those two (and maybe Garlan as we have not really been introduced to him yet), there does not seem to be many bright bulbs in the Tyrell Christmas tree.

Agreed. Mace is all bluster and pride, but he seems to be shrewd enough to surround himself with people who can get things done: Mathis Rowan is a far superior administrator and diplomat; Randyll Tarly is a far superior soldier and general; and Paxter Redwyne has much greater knowledge of naval affairs. Mace himself is a bit of an idiot, as is Loras (although Loras does occasionally show some brains, such as when Jaime convinces him of Brienne's story at the end of ASoS).

There's definitely more going on with Margaery and Garlan then we thought. Willas should also prove an interesting character. The fact he communicated regularly with Oberyn Martell suggests that maybe they had some kind of plan to end the feud between Dorne and the Reach somehow (which now seems extremely unlikely to happen). Or, if Doran let Oberyn in on his plan to ally Dorne to Daenerys, then maybe Oberyn was working on getting Willas on-side as well (Willas is next in line to be Lord of Highgarden after Mace dies).

Your oracular powers astound me. I have attempted to predict many things about each upcoming book and I was only ever completely off the mark except in the most vague predictions(such as, Cersei shall fall!). Perhaps I missed the link to purchase the crystal balls you have? Or do you watch the flames?

Yossa, you are correct, my words were insensitive to Martin and his family. I see how the words are flippant. I apologize for hurting them.

Yet, I was not trying to be mercilessly injurious. In AGOT, the Old Bear teaches Jon the value of preparing for difficult situations and Tyrion teaches Jon the lesson of admitting hard truths.

Since the publication of AGOT, there have been three sequels in nine years. If he keeps up the pace, he'll be 67 years of age when the seventh book is published.

Granted I know nothing of his health, his family's history of health, his diet, his excercise. Nor have I ever met him, seen him in person, nor viewed him on video.

But having seen the pictures of him on his own website, I'd say he's overweight. (If the picture of him with the tiger cub is recent, then I think he's looking old at fifty-eight. Let me also say that most people put their most flattering pictures online, not their least.) Comparing apples to oranges, my body mass index is 28%... 30% is considered obese... and I believe I look much slimmer than Martin.

I don't know his work and travel schedule, but I imagine there's some level of stress on him now. I think most of us read his update when President Bush was re-elected... Martin was stressed over it!

I've personally known a number of men in their early and mid sixties whom have had cardiovascular problems from obesity and stress.

In not so flippant terms, I would not personally be surprised if Martin is unable to finish ASOIAF due to health complications... and I'd really like him to finish the story, because I'm really into it.

I'm glade to know I'm not the only one who worries about his health. I've often wanted to e-mail him to inform him of my fears and ask him to maybe get some help to write his story faster (he talks and they type or something). Because people I know have health problems and die or have loved ones get ill (preventing them from working as well), but I'm sure no one would want that sort of thing brought to their attention so I never do e-mail him. I always feel evil for worrying so much about him not finishing the books, shouldn't I be more worried about him finishing a long life instead? But I can't help it because I love the story sooooooooooo much! I did see him at one of his signings and he looks worse than my grandfather who died at 49 from a heart attack. I hope Martin lives a long long time, though I still worry.

My prediction: Bran will inhabit Hodor's body and marry Meera. Hordes of frogs will scatter from Greywater Watch and ravage all the armies of Westeros at the command of Bran. Dany's troops will arrive, led by her dragons, as the last oppositon to Greywater Watch. The dragons will breathe flames onto the raging amphibians, but the smell of cooked frog will overpower them. The dragons will gorge themselves to death on frog legs. Meera will raise her frogspear to the sky and living frogs will fall from the heavens, Magnolia-style. Book 7, titled A Reign of Frogs, will end when Dany surrenders because she has "had it with these mother*****n' frogs!"

I guess no one else enjoyed the Snakes on a Plane joke? :D

Arya, I'd chill about it. He had a full check-up last year and they gave him the all-clear. He knows his weight is (a great deal) more than it should be and he has plans to deal with it.

Btw, the "talk and someone else types" idea is not a goer. The only books I know written that way are Kevin J. Anderson's :( 'Nuff said.

Maybe a shave would help, make him look younger, healthier, all that.

I'll mention it to him next time we have dinner together.

 ;)

He. If you do, remember that his drink is a Baileys (a double, I think). And his capacity for drinking is beyond legendary. Remember Robert Baratheon's incredible drinking bouts with Thoros of Myr? That's George, on a slow day.

Funny...I would have figured Bourbon; Maker's Mark.

I love alcohol as much, or more, as the next guy.

But drinking enough Bailey's to put on a solid drunk on sounds evil.

Bailey's is sneaky, you don't realize you're drinking alcohol until it's too late. He must have a chocolate thing going on.

I've got to try that...my other morning cocktails are making me think I have a problem... :)

The Lord made oranges to be mixed with vodka at anytime of the day.

That's why I miss (American) football season. A glorious 3-4 month run where you can be nicely toasted on weekend mornings. Along with everyone else.
