Who will rule in Westeros at the end of ASOIAF?

Don't worry Queen Cersei, the Tyrells have neither the brains nor the balls to gain the Iron Throne. Although they will go to Dany faster than you can say Targaryen loyalists.

Unlikely. The Tyrells have risked too much and gone too far now to give up their power so easily, same with the Lannisters. Plus the Tyrells will probably enjoy a chance to take on the Martells who will be loyal to Dany in the war.

Interesting recent comment from George RR Martin at ComiCon: the Second Dance of Dragons and Dany's invasion of Westeros are not necessarily the same thing

I don't know his work and travel schedule, but I imagine there's some level of stress on him now. I think most of us read his update when President Bush was re-elected... Martin was stressed over it!

Thank the heavens, we know that won't happen again.

As for Dany being barren- we have that from a bitter old witch. Dany hasn't exactly tried to prove her false yet (enough with the handmaidens, Dany! Get thee a man- or many men- and have at it!) Plus, it seems to me that there are a lot of prophecies going on in these books, and a lot of misinterpretation, too. Melisandre believes that Stannis is Azhor Something-or-other reborn, but we all know that's a crock. According to some theories, Rhaegar thought that he knew who the Prince that was Promised was. Aegon firmly believed it was Daenerys. Maggy the Frog told Cersei about the valonqar, and Cersei has never considered Jaime, instead thinking Tyrion means to kill her.

Who knows? Maybe Mirri maz Dhur was simply trying to discourage Dany from breeding.

We need to know more about the PTWP prophecy, methinks.

Regarding Jaime- well, I think it would be pretty crappy if every person who has ever been labeled as a "bad guy" was killed off in these books. We all know that the remaking of the kingdom by Robert Baratheon didn't result in justice for all. I would actually like to see Jaime live out his days in the Kingsguard and reform it, make it live up to the standards that were once a part of it. Not as a redemption, but just as a second chance to start over where he should have, before he was controlled and manipulated by Cersei. I think it would be a nice end to his story. So there.:p

Im curious to see what will happen if Bran crosses paths with Jaime. Certainly it appears that Bran is headed towards becoming something "special", perhaps special enough to take other men's lives. Would he have forgiveness in his heart or not?

I bloody well hope not. That'd ruin the book for me

Yes, but the Tyrells owe their position to the Targaryens, and no other house, especially the florents, is about to forget it.

Willas still needs himself a service-able wench to marry, why not "little" Dany and her pen of playdragons

Plus, the Tyrells were the last house to be loyal to the Targaryens and fought against Robert in the war and at the Trident.

Well I think a lot depends on what happens to Margery.
Right now, the Tyrells effectively are in charge with Cersei out of the way.
Were Margery to be executed (highly likely if the charge of infidelity are proven) then that would certainly spell the end of the current Lannister/Highgarden alliance so they would be more receptive to the Targs - especially if Stannis starts saber-rattling again. They know that he will not forgive them if he gets into power...

No, I really don't see why the Tyrells are going to be loyal to Dany. Why? Mace Tyrell's ambition is to see one of his grandchildren on the Iron Throne and now he's in a position to do that. The Tyrells will likely not believe in the dragons until they seem them, by which time it will be too late.

Personally I think the Tyrells are going to either remain loyal to Tommen with Kevan Lannister as Hand and Regent, or are going to seize Tommen themselves and rule through him (with Mace as Hand and Regent). And when they face Dany's dragons, that could well be Field of Fire II time...

I think the Tyrells are going to be too occupied with the Iron Men sailing up under their skirts to worry overmuch about the throne.

Am I the only one here who likes the Tyrells? I mean, yes, Mace is a bag of wind, and yes, Loras is decidedly too Orlando Bloomish for my taste, but for the most part they're a good lot, in my opinion.

Orlando Bloom? I thought he was more like a young Jude Law...Anyway, I like the Tyrells too, especially the Queen of Thorns, but I was just commenting that at the end of AFFC they(well, Margaery at least) were already panicking about the Iron Men, abd with good reason, they'll have enough on their plates with the Ironborn to worry about King's Landing and all that nonsense.

Hmm, well I doubt you're the only one who likes the Tyrells.
Personally I don't.
Loras is a vain, preening fool and was well on his way to becoming Jamie Mk2 before introducing himself to boiling oil. He may become Sandor Mk2 now!
The Queen of Thorns is a devious, sly individual. I don't like poisoners. I can see why she did it, and Joffrey was a swine, but there's too much "Frey-ness" about her for my liking. She's even a little like Littlefinger in that she's only concerned with her own interests.
Mace is a windbag, but a swift broadsword in the gut would solve that one.
Garlan is the only 'nice' Tyrell I've seen portrayed so far. He was kind and sympathetic to Sansa when he didn't need to be.
Willas is supposed to be ok as well, but we've yet to see him up close.

Except that there is a popular theory that Garlan was distracting Tyrion during the meal so that at some point someone could slip in and put the poison in the cup Joffrey was going to drink from.

The one hope I think there is for a Martell-Tyrell alliance (bringing the Tyrells in on Dany's side) is that Willas was in regular contact with Oberyn before Oberyn's death. Maybe Willas was let in on the Dany situation and we'll have a scenario where Mace gets killed, Willas becomes Lord of Highgarden and switches sides to join the Dornish and Dany.

Actually Wert...Garlan was gallant to Sansa during her wedding reception or whatever they call that thing in Westeros. Making her laugh when he didnt have to.

In fact at Joffs feast he's the only one that speaks out against Joffreys childish behavior. Initially everyone tries to distract Joff, but once he goes too far its Garlan that says, "That was ill-done yer Grace". That kind of thing can get your head chopped off (or roasted in your armor under Aerys) which leads me once more down the path that Garlan is exactly who he seems to be.

I hate conspiracy theories

I feel about the Tyrells the same as I feel about the other great houses; I like some and I hate some of the family members.

Garlan is nicest or coolest of the lot (fighting 3 or 4 at a time during practice is cool!).
Margaery is what Cersei wants to be (sorry Queenie), yet she can be cool too. Definite marriage potential.
Grandma is the female Tywin.

I would have liked to have seen the Rose fight the Lion before it's tail got cut off (see you soon Tyrion). That would have been a fight to remember. The wolfs turned out to be wimps.
