I'd wish they would air it before Big Brother at 8.15! I hate it waiting one whole hour zapping around till it starst!!:alienooh:

hi!

I`m from Slovenia and in slovenian is called "Zvezdna vrata"

In Hungarian it is called "Csillagkapu" which is the straight translation of Stargate (star=csillag, gate=kapu)

What really sucks is they refer to SG-1 as 'CSK-1' and I simply can't get use to that!

How about the dubbing? We have everything dubbed here, and well, it's not the best thing. Sam has a hysterical voice in Hungarian, Teal'c's is just weird coz in Hungarian he has a much higher voice than Chris has, Daniel and Hammond are fine, Jack's is cool, the Hungarian actor who's dubbing him even doing that 'lip thing' that RDA does :p My problem is with the translation, the Hungarian version lacks in humour many times ...it gets lost during the translation :(

The same here, cinnamonia! Many jokes get lost during the translation and even jokes that don't work just in english but could be well translated get lost...and I hate that!
Sam and Jack's german voices are okay, but Daniel's voice is way too high and he sounds like a 16-year-old teenager...Hammond's is a little bit funny, but Teal'c's soooo deep, I love it...
:D :D

:D :D

Totally agree with you, Summer. Most jokes are lost in czech version too. :(
But fortunately czech voices aren't bad. Daniel's and Hammond's voices are a bit higher, but okay.

We have sometimes problems with translation. Not only that many of jokes remain untranslated, but also some planets' names are not correct. Many times we can hear PX3... instead P3X or not all the numbers of the planet's name. Some sentences are translated incorrect too. The biggest mistake was in the ep. Solitudes, when in the end of that ep. delirious Jack called Sara and in czech version he called Sam. :(

Vera, it was the same in the Hungarian version! 'Hungarian Jack' also said 'Sam' instead of Sara!

I remember reading something about it, I think the original script had Sam's name, but RDA thought it would make more sense to say Sara instead so he did....or something like that! :D
I guess the script had Sam's name, and that is why they put that into the translation. I heard many translations also had Sam's name, they use the script for translating. I wish they simply put subtitles instead of dubbing!

Thanx for the info, Cin. It's a bit surprise for me. Some times ago I asked a question about this Sara-Sam thing and everyone said that the correct version is with Sara.
Personally I think the Sara version is better. ;)

Greetings
Vera :)

I can't particularly remember if Jack said Sam or Sarah in the german version, would have to check that out!
I'd like to have all episodes in english...:(

I watched Solitudes also on RTL2 and he called Sara.

Hehe, good synchronization here! LOL
Well, at least we got most if not all of the planet's designations right, but I still don't understand why they can't translate jokes ...that really CAN be translated...right.
What's so hard about: 'You want sarcasm? Nice to meet ya!'?
That's what's really annoying me!!! :(

I believe we too get the planet codes right . At least that's OK! :p
Which ep was 'You want sarcasm'? I'm torturing my brain here and just can't remember...:monkee:

LOL, that one was in 'One false step', season two!
Jack to Daniel when they are fighting...:D :D
I LOVE that line, but here they decided to change it into:
(translated): 'You don't like sarcasm, but I should believe your stories?'

thanks summershake!;) I checked our version, it was 'I could say I'm glad you're here' , I think it's not that bad

There was a nice one in Hungarian, in Fire and Water when Jack breaks the window of Hammond's car and says:'You should get that window fixed' our Jack says something like: 'it's gonna be a little draughty' :p

LOL, that sounds even funnier! Here they translated it literally!
One bad thing is that when they don't get some jokes and don't translate them it's not sooo bad (although I still hate it)...cos there are many jokes...but I'm really annoyed when they don't translate Teal'c's jokes...the man don't get many so at least they could try to get them in!

LOL! I must check the czech version and then I'll let you know.

The problem is that some jokes really are untranslatable (spell?)
and they sound good only in original. For example my favourite quote "We came here in peace and we expect to go in one... piece" is translated as "We came here in peace and we'll go in peace too." (or something like that). :(

Another problem is that the translated version must fit to the lips of an original actor (dunno how to explain it in english :D). Sometimes the exact translation is too long.

BTW: Summer, how do you feel in blue? ;)

Yeah, I'm with you, Vera! I know some jokes just *can't* be translated like the 'Alright, we came here...etc.'
In the german version they too translated it into: 'We came here in peace and we wanna go in peace!'
But they not just miss some translatable jokes, they also makes some mistakes translating normal lines, like the Danny quote: 'Get outta here! It's just going to blow up with the other ship anyway, what difference does it make?' In Serpent's Lair...(should've I used spoiler space for this quote???)
They translated it into: 'Go! The ship's gonna blow up, go!'
This makes no sense, 'cos Danny just wanted Jack to know that it really wouldn't make any difference...they all were supposed to die, no matter on what ship they were being...
Well, I guess it's a hard job to translate the original version, but I really would love to do it for free...to be sure everything that *can* be translated will bet translated....LOL

P.S.: I feel great Vera, just a little bit nervous...I hope I can manage it! Although so far I wouldn't dare to delete/change/etc. any threads or posts...:D :D
I hope JAD can help me, he's moderating SG General Discussion, too! :D

In estonian Stargate is TäheVärav :D Direct translation :D We are lucky enough to have the original voices of the actors, and translation down there somewhere lol i cant imagine all the actors speaking with some wierd voice ... that would just... suck! lol

KuuKiir :)
