who???

Jack and SGC

I can see Jack as CO of the SGC, but not Sam as CO of SG-1. Too many other more senior ranked people with more Earthside combat experience as well as the experience they've gotten being in the SGC. They'd probably move one of the other team co's to fill Jack's place.

Not that I don't like Sam, but remember: she is primarily a scientist. the Air Force is not gonna put a PhD in charge of a military command like that, unless the PhD was in Military Sciences with a lot of real-life experience.

We don't know all the ranks floating around the SGC, but if the Air Force didn't mind crossing service, then I see the next senior Colonel as being the 2IC no matter the branch. Otherwise, the next senior Air Force Colonel.

As for RDA. He's only about a year older than I am. He. Is. Not. Old. At least, in MY opinion.

He's just right. :star:

you're right, rowan -- RDA is not old!! and he's 20 some yrs older than i am -- that's not old --- (he might be old if he was like 110 right now -but even then...)

and still - no one else can be Jack - but if someone had to take Jack's place (note, that's Jack's not RDA's - big difference there) i think it would definitely need to be someone w/ the right 'attitude' for the part -- someone kinda like Jack - b/c we'd need a little comedy to lighten the 'dramatic' aspects of the show - so, my vote would still be for Michael T. Weiss (who's like 40 if we're talkin' age here) or Robert Davi (who's also in his 40's) - great actors w/ wonderful abilties and senses of humor --

have fun!!

he started out with brown hair, now it's shot with grey. command would have him bald.

Gee, I thought Jack was the reason Hammond lost his hair.;)

a bald Jack????

ewww ... that is just "not" such a pretty picture ... loved the tossled greyl look ... <and btw ... in RL Rick's dad still has a full head of hair at 70 something ... he's got it in the genes!>

but I can only see Jack ever taking command of one of one, or many, beta type sites ... Jack just doesn't have that brown nosey command quality, imho ... saying what you feel or think just is not condusive to advancing in the military ...

where ever Jack gets posted lets just hope he gets lucky ... dang the guy never gets a break in that regard ... with the exception of Kynthia and Laira ...

:)

Jack Gets Lucky?

That HAS to happen in season 5. Poor guys. Sam's been celibate for 4 looooooong :crying: years! Jack since Laira, :crying: and Daniel since Sha're was Taken :crying: . and the winner is.....Teal'q. :kisses:

LOL, don't know why, but this reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where the gang try to be absolutely celibate. (As in hands off!)

I wonder if SG1 are still masters of their respective domains.

Hair

I don't know about command causing you to lose your hair, but mine mast mostly brown before I went on Desert Shield - Desert Storm and mostly silver when I came back.

Mother Nature's attempt at desert caomflauge?;)

Hi Rowan,
That seems to happen alot! I love your reason though. Natural camoflague! That happened to my grandmother's brother in law. He was in World War I and left home with Raven Black hair and his hair was white when he came home. They thought it was both genetic and environmental as people 'greyed' early in his family but he got it 10 years before anyone else. He was also gassed.
Mine turned grey in response to my son's antics at the age of two on..... He climbed everything and jumped! (My first cousin had two fellows like that but her hair didn't turn! Of course I was considerably older than any other of my cousins when Asgard was born....:rolly2:

Hair

Mother Nature has a warped sense of humor at times. :}

Hair...I have two friends who completely gray by the time they were sophomores in college.

My mom was gray really young, due in part to us kids (11 of us). I felt so bad for her - my dad has a nice, thick head of dark, dark brown hair. People in high school actually thought my mother was my grandmother.

Thank the stars I've got my dad's hair, LOL!

Poor Jack, Poor Hammond. No grey in my family, really. And if I have my father's hair any more than I do now I'll be bald before I'm much older:eek:

Hair...

My Mom's hair was almost all silver when she graduated from high school. Mine started turning when I hit 20 with a silver streak right at my part in my chestnut brown hair.

Now? Pretty much all silver, but some of that was courtisy of Uncle Sam and a 'winter's vacation' in the Persian Gulf about 10+ years ago...

I think that RDA is v.cute and I'm only 13! I nearly died when I found out how old he was! he doesn't look ne older than when he did MacGyver 10 yrs ago (xcept 4 the grey hair which is a hole lot better than his long blonde hair which made him look stupid!)
How old is Jack supposed 2 b neway? How much of an age gap is there between him and Sam?

oohooohoooh -- careful when commenting on the 'hockey hair' of MacGyver --- btw -- i LOVED the long blond hair --- kinda why i started watching MacGyver to begin with --------

Jack was 40 in season 1 (per Brief Candle) so, since we're in season 5 - he'd be about 45 ---

btwn him and Sam? i'm guessing not more than 10 yrs - tho, we don't really know b/c they never say how old Sam is ---

Thanx Highlander! Do u think that Jack is a v.similar character to MacGyver (- the brains of course)? His humor and sayings are similar. I've only ever seen MacGyver the lost city of Atlantis but when he entered the hidden chamber through the tunnel and the old guy asked him if he'd found nething I automatically said 'Oh yeah' coz I just would have expected O'Neill 2 have said that and what did he say right after? " Oh yeah!" The only difference is that it was soooo full of cliches and the plot was so easy 2 predict! (Also can I just point out that as soon as I heard Kelly speak, I half-expected Giles from Buffy 2 pop up as the professor coz she was so stereotypically British! and speaking as an English person I don't no ne1 who talks like that except Giles and Drucilla!)

oh - now, if you're referring to the bad hair of the MacGyver movies - then, yeah - it looked bad - the extensions were terrible (RDA cut his hair right after they finished MacGyver - it looked bad - i hated it -- but, it's longer now) --

Jack and Mac - are similar -- but i've heard some say they don't like the fact that they are "so" similar --- and i have to agree - some of the things are getting 'in the way' of seeing the character -- don't get me wrong, i love the fact that RDA puts himself -- literally -- into his roles, but they don't always have to be the same guy --

Lost Treasure of Atlantis - predictable plot, but 1000 x's better than the other one -- Trail to Doomsday - that was terrible -- ugh -

can't comment on the British and the way they speak, have only been to England 2x's - once for a 12 hr layover, and the 2nd time for a much shorter layover --- sorry ----

Characterations

I know I've always seen a bit of Rick in all of his work ... even in 'Through the Eyes of a Killer' [the dark side in each and every one of us.]

I believe him to be an actor who choses his roles carefully and goes with what he knows are his known strengths and a lot of the things that make him an individual person come through in his characters.

Nothing wrong in that. As long as the man has fun with what he does and feels good about his work.

I wish more of us could say that about our lives.

i don't disagree w/ you - i believe he chooses his roles very carefully also -- i heard him say that he would only take the role of Jack O'Neill if he could soften him up a bit (my words, not RDA's - i'm paraphrasing) -- which is great - b/c i wouldn't still be watching the show if Jack was like KR's Jack - he was a bit too brooding for me --- kinda why i didn't like the movie very much --

but - perhaps he could incorporate 'other' parts of RDA into Jack, instead of the same ones he incorporated into Mac -- (personally - i like Jack the way he is - it doesn't bother me - i'm just making an argument the other way -- habit of mine) -- i love the Hockey part - but i love everything hockey!! (well, almost) -- and MacGyver is why i got into hockey - still can't play tho -- oh well -- however - Jack doesn't reference hockey as frequently as Mac did - tho that is RDA's obsession (well, until Wylie :rolly2: ) Jack more references fishing --- but i think ppl get caught up in the fact that RDA likes both those things - he's a sports-oriented person -heck - he's a GUY! -- but, if you really look closely --- Jack likes fishing, and toss a bit of hockey in - and some Jell-o wrestling, and Mac loves hockey, goes fishing, and wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near a Jell-o wrestling match unless one of his friends was in trouble (and, oh - why can i just see Penny Parker as a Jell-o wrestler and needing Mac's help??)
