who???

No it's definitely not age and I should know because i'm AGED. I remember a lot of the dialogue.

RDA and age

For the character of Jack O'Neill, RDA is pretty close to the right age - military history, et all. Unless the USAF wants to bump him to Brigadier General, He'll retire as a Colonel.

*MY* Colonel. :}

Corza, what are you agreeing with?

That it's not an age thing? Or...

Or that I'm aged?

You, you, young whippersnapper, you :D

Jack's age

Well ... since RDA's only a year and a half older than I am, and I did 21+ years with the Army between 1975 and 1996, if Jack were in his mid-40's now and went in right after college [or around 20... plus or minus a couple], he'd be a couple of years over 20 in the AF. With the military history they've let us know about [and what I can surmise, knowing the service] he's probably a senior colonel on the promotion roster for one star. Won't see it in this current command unless he trashes himself to where he's desk job material because he's 'way too useful in the field, but I can see the service giving his a 'Sunset Promotion' [you're promoted to the next highest rank when you retire] for everything he's done.

Even as a 'smart mouth'... :}

thanks, rowan. I'd been wondering about whether they'd be likely to promote him particularly given his field experience and expertise

Promotion

Even though it's 'one step' on the promotion scale, going from Colonel [O-7] to Brigadier General [O-8] is a very big command step. You become very isolated from the people and workings under you. M.Gen Hammond has the perfect command: he does the work and still interacts with just about all of his command.

ok- here's another miliatary question if you don't mind. what does that stuff on jack's dress uniform stand for?

Uniforms

The Air Force is much less flashy than the other services I personally think. Less badges and such. You've got a name tag on the left breast and award badges, medals and ribbons go on the right breast of the jacket of shirt.

Okay... so here's where I have to ask a question? Which season and which part of which season are you interested in because there's no consistency in his uniform. The badges, ribbons and medals he started out with in 'Children of the Gods' are not the same set that he's currently wearing.

Well... most are, but there have been significant differences here and there. Some times he's wearing Vietnam era medals, sometimes he's not. He was awarded the 'Air Medal' [in the episodes "Secrets"], but it's not on his uniform. His Desert Shield/Desert Storm era ribbons are messed up depending on when you see him in uniform [depending on the episode].

I've been meaning to sit down and list out his awards... not is as good a time as any to get off my tush and do so.

I'll keep you apprised. :D

i think fair game is the last ep where we see jack in his dress uniform. didn't see it at all in season 4 i don't think which is a shame really 'coz the boy does look awful good in it...

Yes, I agree.. He looks very good in it! Didn't know that they kept hashing up his medals. Good for you , Rowan. Will wait for the forthcoming list!

Um, some of us may be able to do that already :)

i know most of jack's one liners, and i can recognise the rest after one or two words

and what's better is that i can recite episode name, and season!

the age thing

back to that old age thing...

...i am probably one of the younger members on this forum, considering a lot of you prob. watched macguver.

and i know a lot of lines even tho i haven't seen the ep yet!!!

i STUDY the mission database on RDA's stargate site!!

rowan...that medal thing would be kewl...wonder? could you do the same for sam & hammond? just pick an eps, maybe fair game since they're all running around and let us know. i've thought about it but...well i'm totally hopeless in those matters...

Medals, etc

Yep... it's just a matter of getting a good, close-up shot of thie chest at the right angle to get a good view of the colors and patterns.

I'm in the process of bartering for some web site code. I'll make sure it goes up there.

Rowan thatd be great. Ive always been curious about these different medals n' stuff.

No one could replace RDA and your only as old as you feel. That guy has got so much energy he could keep goin for years. His grey hair is sexy.

totally agree with the grey hair being sexy, and jack in uniform wow, what is it with a man in uniform, that has us all foaming at the mouth, well me anyway (haha)...peachy

Medals

I totally agree with Skydiver and Gilraen. It'd be great, Rowan, if you will share with us your knowledge about this medal thing. I'm curious too. :)

Medals

It's a good research project for me to learn the goodies my 'brothers and sisters in blue' get. And a good chunk of them are based in the old Army awards system since the Air Force used to be the Army Air Corps back when. That makes it a bit easier as I 'speak Army medals'.

After 20+ years, my dress green uniform is somewhat colorful. :}
