chat transcript
here is a chat transcript that was posted on the spoilergate list. it has various and sundry spoilers for season 5...
Season 6, Writing, and the Movie
What's the official word on Season 6?
"Well although it looks very good, they haven't made an official
announcement yet... At this point, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Season
6. In the meantime, we're starting script work on the last four episodes...
Things could change of course but we are looking at [the last] episode as a
season rather than a series finale... They keep saying "Soon, soon"."
What kind of script software do you use?
"We use Script Thing for Windows."
How many episodes are you responsible for this season?
"Paul [Mullie] and I will have written 7 episodes by the time the season
wraps up. Same as last year."
Any news on the movie?
"No news on the movie. If we do a Season 6, however, it will push any
potential movie back a year... Brad [Wright] and Robert [Cooper] will be
writing the film script."
Will the budget/fx quality suffer if the show moves to Sci-Fi?
"Brad will see to it that the quality of the show is not compromised."
The fans and Season 5
Was there more Sam/Teal'c interaction [i.e. in Enemies] because fan
requests?
"No, it really comes down to what serves the story."
"I went over the first 18 episodes of the season and calculated
approximately 7 solid team episodes. (I know a lot of you were asking last
season.)"
"There will still be episodes that will bring a single character into the
fore - like Threshold."
How much does fan reaction affect what is written?
"Well while it's always interesting to hear what the fans have to say and on
occasion fan reaction will effect certain scripts, overall we have the
general season arc planned well in advance. Take Anise for example."
Did fan reaction to S4 affect the scripts for S5?
"Not in the grand scheme of things, but as I said, it did have some
influence on certain ideas or the execution of certain scenes. Yes, for
instance, we probably won't be seeing Anise anytime soon."
What supporting characters will we be seeing again this season?
"Jacob is very present in the two-parter we are prepping now (Summit and
Last Stand). We start auditioning new System Lords this week... We've got
some very cool System Lords upcoming."
"Apophis is dead. That said, this is sci fi and who knows what the future
holds. I just know what the near future holds."
"There has been talk of bringing back a lot of characters. You'll be seeing
a lot of familiar faces this season. We attempted to bring back "others"
but because of scheduling problems were unable to do so."
"I've always been a big Maybourne fan. And having created the Osiris
character, I'm somewhat partial to her."
"In Red Sky we will have to deal with a potentially catastrophic situation
that we are directly responsible for."
"No plans to see Sam's brother again."
"No Nick [Ballard; Crystal Skull] for the near future."
"We'll have our hands full with the Gou'ald this season -- and one in
particular."
"Love Wormhole Extreme. Once it airs we'll have to do a chat so I can point
out who's who."
"The Tomb was also a lot of fun... definitely not a comic episode. SG-1
must team with a Russian unit in their investigation of a Babylonian crypt.
It's a cross between Alien and The Mummy. Creepy fun."
"Wormhole [Extreme] will air before Gatecon."
"We'll be seeing Thor and the Asgaard too. And Tanith."
"We will be seeing Yu."
"No upcoming plans for Laira."
Will we be finding out more about the ship the Replicators used in Enemies?
"No the ship won't be figuring in to any future episodes. However, we will
be introducing some cool new species."
The Future of Sam/Jack
"Nothing overt for the time being. Fans will invariably interpret the
Sam/Jack relationship as they see fit."
"The Sam-Jack relationship was always there in the first 3 seasons, but we
couldn't bring it to the fore because of their professional relationship.
D&C [Divide and Conquer] afforded us the opportunity to bring it into the
fore, but their professional relationship still exists and makes it
impossible to be overt about their feelings for one another."
"The fan reaction had nothing to do with the absence of a Sam Jack romantic
storyline [in late Season 4/early Season 5]. It's just logically impossible
for them to pursue anything along those lines as long as they are serving
together. For the time being, there can't be a resolution."
