5.03: Ascension

Hi Suebsg1
My last post was in referrence to the x-files, not Stargate.

Sorry for the confusion:) :)

orginally posted by suebsg1:

saw preview and this is not a shippy eps. wait more for desperate measure, and from amanda said on the behind the scenes of season 5 she would like to be kissed so she has not by the time they filmed 'the tomb' so...............................................

details, details!!! where did you hear that from?

True, ascension won't be a "shippy" episode, since Carter does have a love interest in it who (sadly for many) is not played by RDA.

To quote from Amanda herself when she talks about the episode: "I have a man"
To me, this implies she'll get a little bit more that a quick kiss on the cheek.;)

Most the time, shooting schedules are all over the place, doing scenes in the most productive order (usually based on location set up). They could be working on several episodes at once.

wouldn't that really confuse the actors though?? i mean you are in a certain groove for one epi then minutes later have to do a different epi....oh well i guess that's why they're ACTORS1

It does get confusing!
I've worked on 3 low budget films (Camerawoman, Director, and Cinematographer, and Scriptwriter) for my degree in Media Production.
I always thought actors had to "get into character", but some actors can just turn up, do the scene, and go.
Personally, I like the ones who did take the time to understand what was going on and did a bit of research around the character/subject matter. - they to me are the really actors -:D

I never knew that Nic....you are a dark horse:D

My dad used to do a lot of low budget filmimg and I was and still am intrested in all that sort of thing.
I always thooght that the best actors were the ones that took the time to research and understand the character ;)

I was always fascinated at the way things are not filmed in order or the way that we see the finished product and it must be hard for the cast:(

Ok then but one day I will be watching a film and your name will come up and I will be like I knew that girl;)

filming by venue can be why some of those oops slip into the show. since they may film all the control room scenes for 3 eps at a time they have to remember which uniform they're wearing in which eps, how thier hair is done...whether or not sgt. davis is there for all of em...all those niggling little details

that's how MS could miss a week or two due to his appendix and only had to be written out of nemesis. he had already taped most of crystal skull and maybe another one.

then when he was feeling better they did the informary scenes and just edited them in...

Exactly Sky! Although Stargate (to me) has good choreography.

Some shows (like Friends) I can spot differences all the time.

...some people say that's *nit-picking* - I say I'm observant!;)

i think its important to be consistant. that's one of the things i like so much about the show- the attention to little details.

Yeah, the continuity is spot on.
Plus, I love the SGC set - very realistic (what with reall computers and all!)
The special effects and the choreography of the fight/attack scenes is always great, but sometimes the computer effects (such as the stone path SG1 walk across in CRYSTAL SKULL look really fake - yet the "giant alien" looked amazing!)

Yeah when I watched Crystal Skull I thought that the path they were walking or running across looked really fake but usually their sets are spot on.;)

(I really liked the giant alien)

I can't watch it yet over the web (I live in the UK) If it's as good as Im hoping, I'll be leaving a review after I've watched it (which should be tomorrow!!):D :D

this was so cute. not quite what i was expecting
it starts with them on an alien planet (duh) and they're looking around.
seems the previous owners got their tushes kicked but they just might have
found a weapon. danny is working on translating a pillar while sam is
working on a doohickey. jack seems obsessed with time...but after warning
sam not to touch anything he waunders off.
then of course there is this flash of light and danny goes in to see sam
knocked out on the ground
insert opening credits here
sam is in the infirmary getting lectured by janet, yeah janet i'm fine, sam
you've been possessed by aliens, got your consciousness dumped into a
computer, it's gotta catch up with you sometime....yadda, yadda
sam goes into the briefing sg-16 wants to go to the planet to study it
(guess we have 16 teams now)
through much hemming and hawing danny is working on the translations, sam &
co is sent home...sam specifically ordered to go...even jack tells her to
take up a hobby(personally i didn't care for the 'i don't have anythign else
to do part of it oh well)

cut to sam pulling up outside her house, nice old car. (don't think i saw
the bikes) anywho, she has no new messages. brushes her teeth and goes to
bed. saw a quilt on the couch and another on the bed, have to ask becky if
they're both hers
next morning she goes out to get hte papar and there's this cute guy in the
middle of the street. they talk, he's...well he's an alien, quite shy.
sam goes back inside, being careful to lock the door. course orlin(the
alien) pops inside, scares her, then intrigues her, then she runs out after
he walks through her breakfast bar.
next thing you know her house is swarming with techs who of course find
nothing. (they observe her house for a while but quite frankly they all
think she's cracked, she even has to go for a psych consult Ouch!)
eventually, after the cameras are gone of course, orlin shows himself. sam
realizes she's supposed to turn him in but since no one but her can see him
if she does she's gonna be spending time in mental health so she keeps him a
secret.
the pentagon of course wants to turn on the weapon(which is what it is) but
orlin says they shoruldn't.
turns out he's of hte same race as oma (and they're not always the good
guys. turns out the people of the planet were under attack by the goauld,
orlin showed them how to make the weapon to defend themselves, then of
course they decided to use it for conquest and the rest of orlin's peopel
creamed them...something tells me these folks are much, mush more dangerous
than we think)
anyway, sam tries to stop the test firing but can't without revealing orlin
which will make her look nuts...eventually the pentagon overrides
hammy(they've been keeping her house under surveilance...love how jack
covers for her)
in the end orlin manages to MAKE a stargate off stuff he orders off the
internet....just as the special forces raid her house she & he goes to the
planet and destroys the weapon and...you guessed it, he dies.

i didn't realize john de lancie was popping up in this one but he was there
as colonel frank simmons.
jack adn teal's shows up with a movie (star wars which jack's never
seen...he hates sci fi) and teal'c is wearing this black ten gallon hat,
black fringed leather jacket and red bandanna....oh my god i busted a gut. dam that man looks good in black....

coffee cup and jsc are gonna be wearing out their tapes at this part, t-man in western wear.
then the line about 'i hear there is a ring with wrestling and jello....i can hear she slash writers wheels spinning as i type

and all you folks with jack in a black jeep, close... black supercab truck.

personally it wasn't bad, still don't care for the characters looking
foolish but, oh well we got lots of sam. and in civvies, she changed outfits
several times.

danny gets the best line award (and he's in his bandanna again girls ;) )
colonel frank simmons tells him 'i don't think we have to tell you about the dangers that are out there dr. jackson" (sam and danny are against just firing this weapon up...the others aren't as you can guess.
to which danny replies "oh please do..go slow" ROTFLMAO big time

all in all it was a goodie.
and we get dion johnstone and the fifth man next week...only 6 days and 23
hours to go

Great review Skydiver!!

Very good epi, enjoyed it a lot! Didn't like the way they let Sam get close to Orlin and then offed him tho. Really cool learing more about Oma's race. Wonder how Daniel is gonna react once Sam fills him in on that bit of information. Do you think Sam will get in trouble for following Orlin through that gate he built? Which was way cool BTW.

I absolutely cracked up when Jack and Teal'c showed up on Sam's door step. That black cowboy hat and black fringed leather jacket on Teal'c......I'm gonna have to watch the episode again, just to hear the conversation Jack and Sam had then, was laughing too much to hear the tv!

And after Teal'c comment about the Jello wrestling, when Jack flipped Teal'c the phone and told him to call Daniel....I would much rather have followed them than went back into the house with Sam and Orlin.

Can we say Daniel has spent too much time around Jack? Yes! And are we glad about that? YES! That was absolutely hilarious!

Can't wait for next weeks :) Thanks for the countdown Sky!:)

I thought this ep was good. liked sam in it a lot.:D she's gonna be in so much trouble!
maybe i've been reading oo much fanfic and got used to all the team interaction, but i had a few complaints about this one. first, why is everyone so ready to jump to the conclusion that someone's gone nuts? you'd think after all they've been through that they would look for other explanations. i don't know.
next, why on earth did they have to end it there? oh, i know there are time constraints. i'm just whining; pay no attention to me.
i have more nitpicks but i think i'm gonna shut up now so as not to ruin an ep that was, for the most part, pretty darn good.
i did like it. loved danny's line to the pentagon guy. thought the jello-wrestling thing was funny. not to mention sam and jack's little thing about tenseness.:rolly2:

Yes, Skydiver, I can imagine that coffeecup and I will do the mega drooling over the T-Man in black and red with the COWBOY hat! Yes, that blew me away and the part about the jello wrestling, I was big time laughing! I also like the part between De Lancie and Hammond about the red phone and who was whom's boss... turned out Hammie had to eat crow afterwards about Sam.... I am looking forward to the DeLancie/DSD interactions.... Nice tension builders saying that Hammie will not have the final say about his base.... looks as if the tech wanters at the Pentagon are after Hammie again. I thought Daniel (Jack and T-Man) would catch on to the part Sam hinted about with the dark clouds and storm warnings... but I guess they didn't remember Oma until too late... but then I kept thinking Hammie is having his pentagon people overriding him that is why no Major Davis just John DeLancie. Gosh, JDL is again playing a sort of baddie! This will be fun! WIll JDL replace the NID in Season Five.... I think so...

My son kept laughing and saying "Ghetto Stargate" at the end. I loved the fact Orlin kept telling Sam she needed to replace things. When he gave her the emerald he capped her microwave and when he did the "Ghetto Gate" he zapped her toaster....

Yes, I also notice the quilts... they were beautifully made!
WHERE IS SAM'S INDIAN MOTORCYCLE?

It struck me there was a lot missing in this one. I want to see what happens to Sam when she returns through the SGC's gate,
I personally think there will be a LOT of hell to pay and I just don't think it will all be on Sam's part!

i tried and i tried to get into this eps. but for some reason the whole thing does not feel right!! i like how someone pointed out on another list orlin is like now out of the Q continum in human form and need others to go home!! heck orlin even mentions continum, the scenes i did enjoy just happen to be with jack, daniel and tealc they were funny, felt JDL was wasted in this eps. expected more heck i didn't even like reynolds!! i guess it was the way they forced sam to take a break so we could see her house, i don't see why they couldn't have sent sg1 back there since daniel was already helping out with the translation!! and orlin seemed to be the most depressing individual in the world, even the way he was trying to tell sam he loved her!! i am being told not a romantic person, well granted not a shipper sorry but like i said i get showtime and showtime west and watched eps. twice to think ok give eps. second chance, and nope still a lot of things set me off and didn't feel right and i have given myself chances to try and enjoy it, i guess with 'entity' to which alot of people disliked, i liked that one and there was shippiness in it with jack hanging out by carters bed, but the romance with orlin was forced to fast, how they had to go back and save sg16 before putting weapon on, the stargate in her basement he built, i don't know i tried i really did :)
