5.03: Ascension

Big Honkin' Exchange of Spirits

I think this eppy worked very well. A little talking-headish until the dramatic end however. Liked the conclusion, tidy. No obvious loose ends.

What I liked: Daniel's "how could you not notice" hair and coffee-spilling scene; Jack's urgent need of little boys' room and craning his neck to see inside Sam's house; Daniel's line "...I mean, go slow"; Sam seemingly more human, less perfect; sound of Sam's footsteps as she runs off and Orlan is telling her he loves her; shots from surveillance camera and music that accompanied it; Martin Wood's precise, creative direction.

I liked Orlan but he seemed a bit pathetic to me.

And may I ask a favor: my sound cut out just as Sam and Orlan are set to go through the mini-gate (wasn't it cute? Wish I had one.) - question: what did Orlan say *after* he said, "you know how I feel about you"?

Ready for The Fifth Man. Let's hit it!

Yours, Orange

Wish I could tell you Orange, but the sad truth is that I downloaded the episode from the web.
I reached the basement scene and then.... I got disconnected!!! (It took me 2 hours to download it that far!!) I wasn't a happy bunny!!!
So if anyone could write here, email, or pm me about the final minutes I'll love you forever.... okay maybe *love* is a tad strong! but you know what I mean!;) :D

like i said i think my problem with the eps. was to rushed, we started on the planet figure out everything, next we are at sgc and lets let sg16 take over sg1 take a break, boom at carters house and hey there is the alien stalking her just to meet her because he loves her, and don't like how he is with her 'your late' and stuff like that i think that is my problem i know 44 min show and they do rush thru eps. but it was the whole beginning of how we got to her house and you knew that alien had to show up eventually, heck i was looking forward more to see john de lancie was hopeing he had a bigger part was suprized how long took him to get in show :) but i guess see had to watch since helping people out with not being able to see shows so was able to watch again but just to rushed thru everything :( i mean this show does it and it is because only 44 min show and got that extra min to get in preview for next week so does not leave a lot of time frame to get the whole story in, i think watch more could like it, take me a week but i will give it a try :)

thought the jello-wrestling thing was funny. not to mention sam and jack's little thing about tenseness.

Please, please will someone explain this. I'm really jealous about you guys getting to see this ep, I won't get to see it till after Gatecon :(

orlin said something along the line of 'i hope this isn't good bye' or something suggesting that he might be back.

i dunno, if i were sam i'd be ticked off. they automatically just write her off as nuts, then dont' listen to her, then surveil her house...i'd be totally p***** off.

the only redeeming thing was at the end when jack covered for her, but it almost felt like too little too late. gotta wonder, if they'd have treated her better would she have went through with orlin?

or had they not thought she was nuts, they might have an alien as an ally right now instead of...gone.

all in all sam was treated pretty shabbily...and...she's always been by the book, wonder if she still will be when she gets treated like this for playing by the rules?

i kow what you mean. this was one of the things that kind of irked me about this ep. i mean, out of all of sg-1, i always figured Sam to be the most grounded, and i thought, by what they've shown on the show, that sg-1 thought the same way. and yet, again (just like Daniel in legacy and even jack in sog) they immedietly say 'hey, she' must be crazy!'.
i was so relieved when jack stuck up for her at the end, but like you said, the damage was done, or at least for sam. i guess this ep is ripe for some fanfics.

well did anyone else notice the stema rises off the stove (?) when orlin was explaining his love to carter in her house.

watching it off the net means that you get really fuzzy background. now can you tell me if i'm right or not. is there steam or not?

good eppie by the way. i've only seen the first 20 minutes tho (twice may i add, the connection with the server kept breaking) and i can't wait to see the STAR WARS scene.

well thats my bit
ciao jaxie

For the most part I liked this episode. Some of my favorite parts where the jello wrestling line and the the Star WArs line. The reaction on Jack's face when Sam didn't invite them in because she had a date.

Feel really sorry for Sam, I mean come on she is usually so grounded and then everyone thinks she is nuts.

I think Janet lecturing was good, and she had a good point, Sam has been through and awful lot.

Can't blame her a bit for going through after Orlin. Especially with those pentagon guys. I mean if was the SGC she might not have been quite as inclined although she would probably still have gone.

And Orlin and Oma's people have their own sort of "Prime Directive" where they are not to interfere, interesting. Makes you wonder if there aren't more of them around watching what we are doing?

Thank you SKYDIVER for filling in the lines... mine cout off there also when Orlin and Sam were talking just before the jump! I do agree about Sam and the psych order. But Hammond has to be careful and so does the SGC. What really got me was the fact that the Pentagon wanted more info and probably pushed him into the psych. evaluation. Janet was worried about her passing out on the planet so... but to spy on her as they did... Well that seems to set a very bad tone.... Jack's jumping in was good and followed his and Sam's conversation where he agreed to let her do things her way... So Hammond was also pissed when Pentagon came in with their further survaillence! Both he and Jack the people on the ground who knew what was going on were overridden... again.
We have to wait and see how John de Lancie's character will develop... but I think we will have an NID type from the Pentagon... you know get the alien technology at any price!

i think it was steam rising off hte stove.

and hammy & janet did sorta back her...but when the stuff hit the fan they just had to stand back and let it happen(though i did like hammy's line about my boss is your boss' boss.)

and this is ripe for tons of fic. after all she & orlin were in her house for several days at least...wonder what else he played with

Well, we know about the microwave, toaster, computer and the "ghetto gate"..... Ayeah, many more fic on this one!

i caught that too- there is a tea kettle on the stove that is boiling.

liked the epi but thought there should have been more jealousy or something from jack when he found out sam had a "date".
im not sure that they really killed orlin off anyway. he could have gotten far enough away from the reactor before it blew anyway.
thought it was nice that they gave at a guy for a change. and a really cute one too.;)

where are the motorcylces anyway? on the editing room floor?

:angryfire: I AM SO MADDDDDDDDDD!!!!! my credit union wouldn't increase my Mastercard limit..............I wanted to build a "MINI" gate in my back yard so I could visited TEALC!!!! :angryfire:I AM SO MADDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!

I was very frustated/disappointed in the teams reaction to Sam. After being falsely accused of being insane in Legacy, you'd think that at least Daniel would want her to know that he was behind her and Jack's response to it all was terrible. At least one of them should have said something along the lines of "I don't care how insane it seems, if Carter says it happened, then it happened."

Daniel's line to the effect of "Yes, could you. Go slowly." was excellent, and I thought Orlin was adorable. Loved his, "You're going to need an new microwave" and "You're going to need a new toaster", but for the most part, I thought this one could have been much better.

I'm kinda with sue, this one left me a bit cold. There were great moments. Daniel balancing the books and spilling the coffee. Got the feeling someone's been reading fanfics. Then teasing Sam with his sarcastic (and funny) oh, 'yes the translation, finished it, it has the answer to the meaning of life'. And the best was his "Oh, could you? Go slow." Wonderful.

And the scene with Teal'c, Jack, and the pizza was priceless.

I was disappointed that we didn't develop John DeLancie's character more. Unlike Maybourne he looks to be a match for O'Neill and Hammond, which could be fun. I hope he ends up in more than just one more episode. That reaction shot of him when Hammond says 'my boss is your boss's boss' - and then Hammond ends up having to cooperate anyway. Hmmm.

A quibble: why wasn't John DeLancie in uniform? They called him by his rank (Colonel)? Did something get left on the cutting room floor?

It didn't ring true to me that they were so quick not to believe Sam, and so quick to pull the surveillance cameras out. Jack backing Sam up with his lie was great, but there's some serious trust issues to be dealt with here.

Not to mention one whopping huge credit card bill. Who's gonna pay it?????

i hear JdL will show up in 5th man. i can't wait. and as to sam's credit card bill, from the showtime site they say the nid confiscated the gate so hammy should forward the bill to them.
after all they knew the alien was in her house, didn't say a thing for days, let him build it, and then only spoke up when it was done and they wanted it.

but yes, there are some serious trust issues here. alli's already written a fic, called Fond, should be showing up on an archive near you sometime soon.
i think there will be more. all in all sam sorta got the shaft.

Apparent lack of trust in Carter

Yep, I believe they were too fast to believe that Sam was unbalanced (psychic evaluation, camaras, etc.). But then the same thing happened to Daniel in Legacy. They did not believe either of them. And when you think of all the strange things they have encountered and seen and not seen it makes you wonder. After all the Retu (whatever the spelling) were invisible. Couldn't another alien go through the Stargate with SG1?

Speaking of that gate that Orlin built, do you think Orlin and Oma are Ancients?

Considering the fact the Ancients were the ones to build the gate system, or so it seems.
