Well..... I was not going to go to SG4, but Pamie bullied me on her behalf and on behalf of Skip and co. But to be honest, SG3 was one too many conventions for me. If it hadn't been for Pamie's delightful and wonderful company and getting a lovely hug from Don S Davis and an even lovelier cuddle and kiss from Tony Amendola I would have given it up as a bad job on the Saturday morning. Suffice it to say that I am going in February because I very much want to meet Annette, Mishkaz, Summershake, Skip and of course Pamie again. And without a doubt many of the people Pamie and I met at SG3, including a young lady called Buffie and her sister and a guy called Wag who were the greatest fun. I just regret that I was feeling too tired and unwell to do it all justice. I don't give a hoot about meeting Michael Shanks (or the others), but if anyone isn't going and wants his autograph, please let me know and I will try to get it for you.
The convention itself is of minor interest to me. As far as I can see it's a vehicle for these actors to get a luxury paid holiday in one of the greatest cities in the world and get treated as though they were royalty. Which they're most decidedly not. In fact Don S Davis actually admitted that, apart from the fact that he loves the fans, how else could he get such a holiday and get paid for it?
I don't particularly blame them for jumping at the chance.... who out of all of us would? Not me, that's for sure.
But as Annette said, I am going to stay at the Sheraton over the road, because I didn't like the Heathrow Park. It is a little on the inconvenient side to not be able to fall from the bar into the room, but the walk will do me good!!! And may encourge me to get out of the bar earlier than I normal would. Although hopefully by Feburary I won't be recovering from shingles and blood poisoning nor will I have the beginnings of the horrible cold I have now!! I was able to get a rather nice rate, even though the actual rooms themselves are £174 per night for a standard single. I booked for a long weekend and my rate is only £70 which is only about £11 dearer than the Heathrow Park and worth it to my mind.
Pamie had a lovely room at the Heathrow Park and mine wasn't bad if you were into sidling past the bed to get into it, but to be honest I didn't like the staff's attitude nor was the service or the food good. I promise myself the best within my means if I can get it and the Heathrow Park fell far short of that!
