I have to agree with you Texane. I think the man is arrogant and his asscoation with the online fandom, dropping hints here and there and pontificating as he does has only increased his arrogance. The fans treat him virtually as some sort of god, even to the extent where some of the lists where he is purported to be a member will not even allow you to disagree with anything he says or his episodes.

It's all wrong when someone associated directly with a TV show gets that much power.:(
Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni! Go, Anni!

you know, I don't really give a damn about the actors & don't really have any need to meet them. I just like the characters they play & will keep my own fantacy...

I think that's true of most of us Skoon. I always have the sneaking suspicion that if I did meet any of them I would be sadly disappointed anyway. The persona they put over for the fans and in the character is usually far different from the reality!

:D

True but i get the feeling the RDA and AT are as cool as they appear to be (in chats etc), and funny too! I would absolutely love to meet them, especially together :D

I don't know about RDA, but I got an opportunity to meet AT face to face at a Wolf Con and maybe it was just because I was nothing but a member of the great unwashed fandom, but I found her cool and very distant. She looked me up and down like I had just crawled from under the nearest rock! Granted, I was feeling and looking quite ill at the time, but still. <shrug> maybe she was having an off day or something. But quite honestly, having watched her on stage being animated, friendly and vivacious I was a bit surprised at her attitude.

And no......I didn't rush up to her and intrude while she was having a private moment. She actually came over to talk to someone I was talking to and we were then introduced.

I was not impressed at all.

Well, she does seem like a genuinely nice person, but i havent met her, and maybe she was having an off day Anni? Cos everybody has them right? Or maybe she isnt really like what she appears to be? I guess we'll never know...

xxx

I don't know Sammy. I was a little taken aback at her coolness and she may well have been having an off day, as you say. However, courtesy doesn't cost anything. I am never impressed with bad manners no matter how a person is feeling.

Yah i guess, but then again, actors do have to meet a lot of fans in their line of work and it is hard work and i'm not defending rudeness, but i'm trying to see it from their point of view, if i had to smile at every person i met i'd go even crazier. And i know its their job and all, but y'know, i'm an optimistic! lol :D

and guess what, all you actors out there? It's PART OF YOUR JOB to make your fans happy and show up at PR opportunities. Get over it and get on with it. This is part of what you are paid well for.

Texane......I applaud your pragmatism. My sentiments exactly!

If you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime!

Being a successful actor means that you are always on show in public, if you're on private time, then if you want to be cranky that's your prerogative and your right, no one wants to be bothered while they're grocery shopping or trying to have a quiet meal with their partner or family. But when you are making a paid public appearance in your chosen profession.....and let's face it, the conventions are paid public appearances....then you have a duty to perform. Just as I have a duty to perform in *my* chosen profession whether I feel like it or not. It's what you're getting paid for.

The amount of excusing that gets done for them (not meaning you Sammy ;)) it's no wonder most of the acting profession are way up inside their own asses.....

:D

I so agree with you, Anni, and I'm sorry you didn't get the treatment to which you were entitled.

Consideration for the fans is what it's all about. Making nice and being polite is kind of an obligation, I think, because without the support of the fans, professional entertainers (and that includes scriptwriters too) would be slumming it with the rest of us.

There are two guys I really appreciate from that point of view:

Brian May of Queen:
>After gigs, he will sign autographs for anyone who's bothered to hang around till he's changed and showered, and he has been seen outside a theatre still signing at 2 a.m. in the rain!
>I wrote to him once and he wrote back in his own hand. I was well impressed!

Neil Gaiman - author:
>Recently went on a world signing tour to promote his latest novel, 'American Gods' (recommended), and stayed at venues until everyone who wanted his autograph got one, on at least one occasion beginning at 1.30 p.m. and going on till 9 p.m., three hours after the official end of the signing.

Genuinely nice guys, the pair of 'em. :)

I will add, that it's also incumbent upon the fans to *leave the 'stars' alone* when they're 'off duty'.

I've had a little experience of that on occasions, like shortly after we won 'University Challenge', I was out for a quiet lunch with husband, tête-à-tête, and this complete stranger came up, pulled up a chair, sat down beside me and proceeded to talk to me throughout the meal! Once wasn't too bad - quite flattering, in fact - but it made me realize it must be pretty hellish if that sort of thing happens to you on a regular basis. :(

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

And I do agree with you, Anni, re: entitlement to privacy at certain times. Cons are big PR gigs.

Finally got to see "Meredian via squinty. Very mixed feelings. I thought MS got a fairly good send off, but the ep reminded me too much of "Fat Man & Little Boy" which was run here endlessly a couple weeks ago.

I thought the intro to JQ was good, but that they should have made more of his defection. We never really saw him make the decision -- he just turned up at the SGC, naquadria in hand. Not much of an emotional struggle there. I realize that they didn't want to detract from DJ's demise, but a little more on JQ would have helped a lot.

I'm not quite clear on the ascended glowy light thing. So Orlin and Oma can appear solid without "descending" but once one of them really descends they can't ascend without help, right? Very confusing really.

Anyway, I'm still processing "Meredian" -- very mixed emotions right now.

well done. Nice job (again) by PdL as director.
Except of course it wasn't ;) It was William Waring - unless PdL has gone for anonymising himself out of "tricky" episodes... :D

I think I disagree with this one.... ;)

An actors job is to ACT, to the best of their ability.
However, if they then take on the further responsibility of attending cons (etc.) they yes, they are volunteering for that extra step (and remuneration ;) ) of entertaining the fans. They are, as Gatecon and other Con organisers will tell you, quite different contracts.

BUT, what makes a great person (who happens to act) is that they go the extra mile in meeting the fans, going to the Cons, reading and writing the letters and so on. It doesn't make them a better actor one jot, but it makes them a better human. I would say.

Yes, if they attend this sort of event they should be as professional as possible. The problem is that some fans/journalists/media-types seem to think that once a person appears on screen they are entirely public property for the rest of their lives, 24/7/365, which is obviously nonsense. We, as fans, need to remember that privacy too, and respect it. Being an actor does NOT mean these people are open to permanent scrutiny, and they are allowed the same dignities and priviledges of personal space as the rest of us. [Not questioning the incident at the Con, BTW!!]

Technical question about this episode - what was the Designation for Jonas's planet???

Its been given in an unofficial book as being P3X-4C3, but only the second half seemed to be quoted in the dialogue. Anyone got a heads-up?

I just watched this ep again, it was a lot better this time around, not as crappy as i remembered. And i still shed a tear at the end  i'm so weak

And sorry PTeppic, if i'd have seen your post before the ep i could have looked out for it...but i didn't, sorry :(

about jack and daniel

hi i am a new users. :flash: did any one notice the way jack was towards daniel in meredian :blah: i know he was dieing-sorry assending- but it sounded/looked as if they were more than friends :wink2: . It was because Jack made it look like he had a bit of a...ehem...thing for Daniel. in a loving way, of course!! The reason why i think this is because of what jack says to daniel when he sat beside daniel's bed. he said, "Even though you have been a terific pain in the ass for the last five years....i have come to...to admire you!" :wink2: :rolly2: email me at: Kellykuk@yahoo.com. well gotta go.
keep the faith

I dunno. I think Jack's just a big tough solder having problems expressing himself to a dieing friend. ..not just a friend, a good friend that helped him get over...accept his sons death & not commit suiside...

I agree.

. . . no commit suicide which would simultaneously murder/fry/burn alive the etire Abydosian tribes/race.

I think it was more like the M*A*S*H episode when Henry Blake was discharged to go home and, while he was at the chopper, he found himself looking at Radar, who was saluting him. Blake walked over and gave Radar a hug and told him if there were any problems, he'd come back and kick Radar's butt. The actors were later interviewed. The kid who played Radar said it was between he and MacClean Stevenson not the characters in that scene.

The Jack/Daniel scene at the end of Meridian seemed to be between RDA and Shanks.
