SGC Point of origin

Ah yes, now I follow - YES, that is precisely how I see it.

Theoretically, for example, on every single planet the SG teams visit the POO glyph will be different - they just have to work out which one is new, or in the same place on the DHD.

Similarly, in "Serpent's Lair" when Daniel escapes he has to know the POO - even though it SHOULD be earth - but I agree that following this theory, the POO is actually just symbolic for "here" and doesn't actually have a real value, it just means "point of origin". So as long as he has a DHD the gate can be used ANYWHERE as long as it is in a valid stargate position in space, i.e. one where it can be addressed by other gates, that is, is at the intersection of lines between six glyphs.

so the stargate on planet X has a set of glphs that are represetative of it, but as long as those chevrons are the same or an alternate gate on that planet... it can only work from that place... which throws and quirck in the stargate system.. remeber when Daniel jumped throughteh gate on Klorels ship, that gate would have to be a universal gate and could be used any where....

Yes, and no, but I think it all still works.

After all, the gate itself doesn't have to know what the address is for INCOMING signals, it just have to pick up that a wormhole is coming in to it based on its location. Alternatively, as Ithink I have suggested elsewhere, it has a GPS-style Galactic Positioning System, but it calculates where it is in the network, rather than being pre-programmed. That would allow the re-use of gates such as the Goa'uld moving the Antartic gate, and Daniel using the one in Klorel's ship.

good point, that makes sence, so basically as long as the coridinats are right and they have the same chevrons.... a gate can connect to anywhere from anywhere.

A little bit of info

If you have seen Babylon 5, then think of it this way, the wormholes are all part of hyperspace, and when it is activated the hyperspace door is opened on one side and the wormhole begins to travel, searching out the location, when it finds it, it links to that gate, and the otherside of the hyperspace door is opened, at that time they both really activate, and you get the wormhole, gate can be anywhere as long as you have proper POO and good coordinates....

MHW

GOD BLESS

that is an interesting way of looking at it... maks a lot of sence to... thanks!

um the goa'uld put our gates here. ra put the original one in giza but that became lost due to the uprising and then they put the other one in antartica so it couldnt be burried

ya so... it doesn't mean that on some planets there wasn't a second gate like us!

"the original one in giza" - the film implies that the Goa'uld put the first gate on Earth: they already had found gate and transport ring technology, and put it onto Earth to help steal slaves/hosts/Jaffa

Two gates - no reason why not, except for the incoming wormholes. That would be a real problem.

well from 1928 on any wormholes would have go to the one in antartica because it had a DHD... remeber the serpent guard, but since there were both barried... there wouldn't have been travalers!

True - though I suppose we can assume that since there were no other corpses, [the Jaffa was the last to be near the gate, whether testing whether it was buried (like they sort of did at Cimmeria) or the last "out" when it stopped being used etc] that no-one HAD been through the gate in a LONG time.

i guess that the gould forgot about us after the revolt so it wasn't until Aphosis needed a host for his wife that they decided to try us...

Personally I think it is on the top ten list of plot holes, along with "how did Daniel dial home without a DHD or power from Abydos in the original mission" and so on...

With all their advanced weaponry, I don't imagine even a single Goa'uld would have stood for the over-throw of a few Jaffa, with weapons barely out of the stone-age...

um.... what do you mean about Daniel not having a DHD... there was one on abydos.... what i don;t get is at the begining of Children of the Gods how aphosis dials home.

Sorry - incomplete specification on my part: how did Daniel dial home at the end of the film...

Apophis - I think we have to assume a hand-held get-you-home mini-dialler. Unless there is something in the ribbon device which acts as such? :eek7:

on which planet.. because in the original movie and Children of the Gods there is a DHD on both Abydos and Chulak... so what is this about??? what are you talking about

The thing I would like to know is why did the serpent guard just sit there to be frozen when he went through the gate. Obviously the Goa'uld {and remember there was more than just RA on earth} knew it was in the arctic so that wouldn't have been a surprise. He was there for a reason. He had a DHD so why just sit there for the incredible amount of time it would take to freeze to death. There had to be a reason to send him through. What was it and why was he found there?

Gypsy

well he was also found below the DHD so one has to assume that he had been there longer... perhaps he was a traiter and they knew that there was a gate in an extremely cold place so they sent him there as a punishment for being a traiter... just theorizing here!

The problem with that is they would have had to have been able to stop him dialing out and we know from solitudes that the gate had some power which is why Sam was able to get most of the chevrons to activate. At the time the Serpent guard would have been left there we can only hypothesise that there would have been enough power to activate the last couple of chevrons and activate the gate.

good point unless the DHD was burried before him.... have to hink about this one.
