Starburst Interview

fan fic

it would be interesting...and maybe embarrassing.

i heard a rumor that TR once read some janet/tealc and sam/janet fic and...got really red. <G>

i would presume that since the writers and producers of the show are not supposed to read fan fic to prevent the accidental 'borrowing' of ideas from a fan...if an actor is going to pitch a story s/he might want to avoid it as well.

although i am aware of an individual in the fandom who wrote a story about a minor character and received feedback from the actor/actress who portrayed that character.

just goes to show, you never know who's who on the forums/lists etc.

Care to spill? :p

I'm sure a lot of them do, it's a good point about the not being allowed because of burrowing ideas, but if so many people are writing stories about you (or someone you act)... Well, you'd be tempted...

I rather think that if they read any of these posts, they would assume that it's just yet another set of gibberish written by this bizarre section of fandom...i.e. the online fan.

As for the fics, can anyone actually visualise RDA reading a fanfic? I certainly can't. I think Fishing Monthly or Hockey Times would be more his 'bag'! Or the cartoons in the Sunday newspapers.

MS now....well I can see him reading fanfic, but I think he would be quite choosy about what he actually read. I may be reading him totally wrong, but he strikes me as being a tad more intellectual than RDA anyway. Not that I am saying that RDA is stupid by any means..... Mind you, he's done a pretty good job at the Stargate version of Dumb and Dumber over the last couple of seasons.

Now RDA with his tongue stuck to an iced up pole......that I *could* imagine!!!
LOL, thanks for the good laugh Anni!!! ...RDA with his tongue stuck to an iced up pole...:D :D
I hope none of them read these posts...And I'm pretty sure they don't. I think they have other things on their minds than surfing on different discussion boards...:D :D

I'm sure that they've each spent half an hour or so browsing here, or Heliopolis or somewhere and then, if they like it, they may come back for more!! :alienooh: :D

shouldn't we give them a break ?

I actually went out and bought the magazine unaware that this topic had been started online. I read the article and formed my own conclusions without any bias. I agree with many points on both sides of the argument posted here. We'll never know the full story and to be honest I wouldn't want to. Everyone is entitled to speak their mind and giving interviews such as that is going to cause a stir, but I think it's time we give MS, RDA and the team at SG-HQ a break ?

I really hate all the negativity.

I picked up the latest Region 2 DVD (along with the mag) and got home and watched the Behind the Scenes footage filmed by Don S Davis. It really makes you appreciate everyone who's involved with the show - not just the actors. I felt much better and am willing to let things move on in a more positive direction. What do you think ?

I'm not being negative about much, just slightly so about MS.

not only on this topic - although this is quite topical :) but in other areas of fandom discussion as well. Point me to the "Happy Room" recently ...

That's probably just cos there's no SG on TV and MS has lkeft .. when the new series starts things might change (then again, they might not) There's just a lot of fuss about MS and Jonas.

That's whats worrying me about the launch of the new season and hinted to by MS in his article.

"Exactly, exactly. And I think the idea of stepping into something
for what you know is only going to be one season… Well, I don't want to speak against the actor who's stepping into that, because I know he's got a tough job ahead of him, and I don't blame him. I blame the producers who put him in that position, where he has to face that kind of adversity. But I'm sure he'll go in and do the best he can."
We'll have to wait and see ...

i would if it was me. but it's someone else so i won't violate her confidence.

as for reading stuff...they might. i mean we know of three people on the net that are involved in teh show, JM, BW and Boydo (although no offense to him...i've had teh identities of the other two confirmed through other sources...not his so i tend to treat him with a grain of salt).....but you literally never know who is really behind a pseudo.

Yeah I totally agree...I really hate all this negativity around here of late!
And like Sphinx has said its not just in this topic....which made me comment earlier about all the negativity surounding Jack/Daniel or MS/RDA....
I know its not all about just them two but what with this thread all the stuff that goes on in the Jonas forum..Im in need of the happy room around here too!

:D

Actually, I see RDA as the more intellectual of the two. I know they both like hockey, and RDA has never fished ,unless you count spear fishing. I don't know much about what MS does in his spare time, but I know RDA reads alot and likes to listen to classical music. Ppl who have met him say he is very witty with a great sense of humour, and is as sweet in person as he is in his tv interviews. He also spends alot of time working for environmental causes. He admits he is a little shy and not an extrovert. He's also very athletic ,but has slowed down a bit since his daughter was born.

Uh........ I was kidding about the hockey and the fishing for heaven's sake. None of us can say anything other than our impressions about either of these guys, because none of us know them personally.

Yes, there is a lot of negativity. It's born of those who are disappointed that the show has gone the way it has.....that one of the principal actors has left before the show actually ends for real..... and it's also born of those who have constantly risen to baits that weren't actually held out. All of those knee jerk reactions to even any slight healthy criticism of one of their much loved actors.

I have seen WW3 occur just because someone dared to suggest that MS might not, in their eyes, be the wonderful actor that his fans loyally declare he is. I have even seen horrific arguments break out because someone actually dared to ask a question about either his or RDA's personal life. Innocent questions sometimes, asked from a standpoint of interest and not a desire to pry and those people have literally been ripped apart to the extent where they back away in bewilderment and then sometimes don't post at all.....ever again. I have sometimes been shocked rigid by the reactions of many people and the outright hostility displayed.

I have just come from a list where someone has actually left online fandom because she was pushed to the point where the whole thing was no longer enjoyable and has led to severe family problems.

In all honesty, some of the behaviour I have seen on these lists and forums has been shocking.

And all of this over just a TV show. 45 minutes of supposed viewing pleasure.

Negative? Oh yes. I have seen that.

Who knows what RDA likes or whether MS is more intellectual? Listening to classical music doesn't necessarily make you an intellectual. It just means that you enjoy music of that nature. I am nowhere near an intellectual, but I love classical music with a passion. It can inspire emotional depths in me that constantly surprise me, but I am not an intellectual.

The thing that saddens me most of all about this show and what it has come to, is that now....when many people remember the show in the future, all they will see is the bickering, nastiness and hysteria over the four principal actors and the fact that it has turned into almost a science fiction soap opera in which the lives of those four characters are far more important than anything else.

They will forget about the awesome concept of the show...a gate that can transport people to other worlds than our own....the notion that 'out there' there may be things so awe inspiring and may hold the key to our own existence....and that there might be an enemy out there so fear inspiring that they hold a whole galaxy in thrall.

Okay, so off my soap box. I myself still watch the show and still look forward to another season, just as I enjoy the re-runs and the fanfiction......hell I even still write my novel about it.

And doing all of that is the best compliment and ovation that I, a simple viewer, can give it.

I couldn't agree more with you, Anni! To a certain degree this hostility is really sad.
Of course we don't know anything about those people, all we can do is speculate. But if that leads to such severe insults like those you mentioned we'd better cut that.
Is it wise to draw conclusions about a person from the kind of music he listenes to or what kind of sports he does? I don't think so...I know many people think they know the actor or actress they're admiring because they see him or her every week on TV, read interviews, etc.
That's not true.
All we're doing here is speculating and sharing some jokes (I still can't get this pic of Rick with his tongue stuck to an iced up pole out of my head, Anni :D :D )...we don't know the real reasons why Michael left the show, we don't know if RDA had anything to do with it, we don't know who's smarter and we definetely don't know what colour RDA's boxershorts are.

As long as nobody takes such discussions too serious it's okay....

I realize you were kidding Anni, but there are ppl who think that because RDA plays Jack as a little dumb sometimes that that's what he's really like. All this bullsh*t re MS leaving will blow over just like the Jack/Sam anti- shipper war did after D&C. I vaguely remember ppl swearing they would never watch the show again after that one too.

RDA has also played a very convincing stalker . . . I don't really expect to see him lurking in anyone's bushes anytime soon (unless PdL puts him there for scenery by the Gate).

I, too, have gotten some negative/overbearing/insulting statements and instructions via pm that made me want to return the favor by saying, "get a life!" "get a dog!" "get on the International Space Station, just get off my back!" But I guess you just have to ignore these kinds of people.

It really IS (I know it's a disappointment) just a t.v. show . . . and truth be told (oh, boy, here they come, more emails and pms), I just simply don't care which one of them is more intellectual (I'm gonna get it now!).

I hope not cos I agree with you there! :D
I'm not interested in their personal lifes...what I like to discuss are Stargate related themes...:D
And only if it isn't too serious since we simply will never know the truth...:D
