LOL, don't worry, Anni!
DragonBaby, it's exactly what MS said himself:
"...and in the initial years Stargate was a lot more of what I hoped the series would be. As I got older my desire of what I wanted became more specific. I mean, when you do a show for as long as I did Stargate SG-1, you start off as a 'young hopeful', as it were, sitting in the gate, waiting to do stuff and eager to do whatever is thrown at you. Then naturally you want to be doing more as the show progresses, yet I found myself going in the opposite direction and saw my character being involved less in stories." Cult Times #77 Feb 2002
I think it's a natural progress that you're reaching for the stars. If you'd always be satisfied with what you already achieved...(quote Torment of Tantalus)
In the beginning Jack and Daniel were the focus of the show, but it changed it's premise and now we can see soppy Jack/Sam babble, NID conspiracy stories, a completely silent Teal'c and barely the initial 'Let's gate to a new planet, explore new cultures, get problems with new goa'ulds etc'-stories...
I think it's sad.
And I think MS made a good decision when he left, because like he said himself he had the choices of being unsatisfied, staying in that trying situation or drawing a line and saying: Well, okay, it's not what I want anymore so bye!
I think what bothered him so much was that they were a family for five years and not anyone tried to do anything to make him stay. They were always telling him: 'Don't worry, it's just a period....', but nothing changed over the years. And when he said good-bye they obviously weren't very sad, but were in fact like: 'Oh, okay, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.'
I think he is well aware of the fact that he won't have his great and big breakthrough in Hollywood now. He has to work hard if he wants to stay in the buissness. And he knows Stargate wasn't as supporting for his career as many people might think, just because the show became big.
He said that when he gets casted and they read 'Stargate SG-1' on his CV it's not like: 'Great, that was you!' In fact it's: 'Oh...never seen the show but heard about it...which one were you? Ah, the one with the glasses...okay.'
