Dr. Daniel Jackson returns as series goes for season 7

Stargate SG-1 fans, hang on to your Goa'ulds . . . Daniel Jackson lives!

Well, maybe not. But he's back.

Fans can rejoice because not only is the popular shot-in-Vancouver sci-fi series returning for a seventh season, Vancouver actor Michael Shanks will be back to reprise the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson -- much to the relief of the savedanieljackson.com site, we're sure.

Shanks exited the show at the end of season five after complaining that his character, who dated back to the original 1994 Stargate movie (where he was played by James Spader), was being under-used.

Shanks walked. Dr. Jackson, in turn, gave up his human life during that season's finale and ascended to a higher plane of existence. He returned for one season-six episode in spirit form.

Other than Shanks and star and series producer Richard Dean Anderson, no other cast members have been confirmed, although an announcement was pending at press time.

Shanks' replacement was Corin Nemec, playing a character named Jonas Quinn.

Other stars of the series include Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and Vancouver native Teryl Rothery.

The show was on Showtime until last year, when it was picked up the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel.

Thanx Rowan. So what happened to that whole thing about RDA saying he definately was finishing at the end of S6 so he could be with his daughter? & how come they say CN WAS MS replacement, I wonder if they'll axe Quinn?

I agree Rowan, he seems a pleasant guy, not that I have chatted with him. However, the show handled the ascension part in a rather ham-fisted way and it would be a shame if they did the same to the character of Jonas Quinn.

I also agree that several fanfics have dealt with the issue quite rationally, but I have very little faith in the writers of the show actually doing the same, certainly based on their past track record anyway.

Oh well, we will see. It's just as well that I wasn't bothered about either Jonas Quinn or Daniel isn't it?

Changes

Things like that I don't know. Looks like some re-evaluations went on.

So the Shanks is coming back...

To be honest I'm sorry to hear that. He made the choice to leave. And his behaviour in the following months was very unprofessional.

It's not fair to Corin Nemec, who has done a wondeful job. It's not fair to the fans, who grieved for Daniel's loss and have only just gotten used to Daniel not being around.

He's a wonderful actor and I love him, but I don't want him back.

Ah ... Star...

Not to rain on anything, but this has already been posted to three threads in this forum. ;)

I guess it's good the word gets around so fast. ;)

the first link doesn't seem to be working....

From the second article:

After five seasons as a regular character, Jackson moved to another plane of existence, as it were ("He didn't die," says Anderson. "He 'ascended.'" ) and made only one guest appearance last season.

"It looks like he'll be back this coming season as well," says Anderson.

That doesn't really say much - he 'came back' for season six, after all, even if it was only for one appearance.
I quite like Jonas - I would get a kick outta seeing Jonas and Dr J in a few more scenes together - there would be quite a lot of poignancy, considering how Quinn joined up with SG1.

Here's the confirmation from Sci-Fi:

Sci-Fi:

Shanks Returns To Stargate SG-1

The SCI FI Channel confirmed that Michael Shanks will return as a regular cast member of the channel's original series Stargate SG-1, again playing the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson, in the show's upcoming seventh season. The network earlier this week announced that it had renewed the show for a full 22-episode new season.

Shanks left the series at the end of season five, and his character gave up human life and ascended to a higher plane of existence. Shanks has made one guest appearance during the sixth season and, as previously reported on SCI FI Wire, will also return in the season finale.

The channel has announced that Richard Dean Anderson also returns as the star and one of the executive producers. So far, the network has confirmed only that Shanks and Anderson are returning.

Production on the new season is slated to begin in Vancouver, B.C., early next year, for a summer 2003 launch. The remaining original sixth-season episodes will resume on SCI FI in January 2003.
