Season 7 is a "GO"/Shanks' return

Thanks for posting that Rowan, I'm sure there'll be a lot of excited and relieved Stargate fans out there in fandom.

Personally, I never doubted the reports from N John Smith at Wolfcon, I don't think he would have said what he did unless he'd been pretty sure about it.

I think MGM and Sci Fi were just being coy about the whole thing.

S7

I agree, Anni. I'm sure they still have some things they're ironing out and finializing.

I read the news earlier today and went, that's nice, but I DO want to know just what the renewal means. Okay, RDA is there, but what about the rest? I remember the fiasco after season six got renewed and MGm didn't mention little things like losing cast members. Wonder what changes might have occurred, with cast, or staff...

Loose ends...

I think that falls under 'loose ends'. We can but wait.

<sigh>

Something I'm not always good at doing, but hey ... there you go. ;)

Well, I sure everyone will be back campers.

Amanda did say at gatecon this year that
everyone was waiting to see weather or not
there would be a 7 season before deceiding
what to do next. and Chris really want another
season so he because he wants to write more
for the show.

So hang in there Campers!!

and

Keep the Faith!!

Still gonna wait and take the news with a few grains of salt. It's easier that way <G>

I think its great news and like Anni I dodn't really think that John Smith would have said anything if it was not a lot of truth in it...but its good news all the same! :D

i'm with you guys, i didn't doubt mr smith at all (hey, i got a soft spot for anyone that gets us permission to visit the set <G>)

and it's great that sci-fi has now vindicated all the crud he went through post-con. Rock on season 7!!!!

I am over joyed at the news of season 7.
I am also angry with SCI-FI for thier indecession and hand wringing as to whether or not to produce more episodes, keeping the millions of fans waiting and panting for more.

Good news just the same.

To be honest, I think it had nothing to do with Sci Fi's indecision or hand wringing. I think it had more to do with hammering out a proposal which RDA would have been happy with. He is the principal actor and star of the show and the executive producer after all.

I imagine there's been a lot of talking and arguing going on in the background while the fans all waited with bated breath.

He's obviously been negotiating the amount of hours per week he's now prepared to work so as to optimise the time he is able to spend with his family. And not to mention that they would also have had to re-negotiate all of the regular cast member's contracts with a couple or three different agents involved. It's not as straightforward as just saying "Let there be a Season 7" and lo........there was a Season 7!

sg1

Great news, here in England season six is just being shown.

There is a huge fan base here, in fact there is a very good short film that's been made, it can be viewed free ( streamed ) from here. ( or downloaded )
http://www.petendom.co.uk/sg1/
I must say before you watch it, it was made for the love of stargate and not to dishonor it.

They are starting a 2nd film ( about replicators ) and a 3rd will follow and if anyone wants to help out in anyway feel free, There has been people making 3D meshes for the film others have sent in stories, and even music ( sound track )

Anyway we all love stargate and we are happy about season 7

i agree with anni. I don't think the delay can be blamed on sci-fi at all. They're not doing it just to annoy us. Season 7 obviously depended upon RDA's participation. He's said for the last 2 years that he has issues about his duties and time spent with his child. Which i totally support....god willing, his kid's gonna be around far longer than the show.

Since season 7 hinged on RDA's support....it makes sense that they weren't gonna waste time negotiating congracts with all the other players if RDA wasn't gonna sign. More than likely, once the go-ahead was given by RDA, then all the other people were approached with contracts, which also had to be negotiated (c0-stars, writers, crew etc.)

That all takes time

does anyone know if there is anyway that M.shanks might be back in season 7.

( i miss him )

MS

The second any of us know, we'll let you know, Leebert. ;) I understand how you feel.

Hi from Vancouver, BC. According to a local newspaper this morning Michael Shanks has agreed to return as Dr. Daniel Jackson. We do not know how many episodes that he will be involved in, but he will be there.

I haven't done this before but i'm going to try and put in the link to the Vancouver Province article. (crosses fingers)

Hopefully that worked. If not try to copy and paste the link into your search engine.

Okay.....hands up all of those folk who think that this might be a monumental mistake, especially if they don't handle it right. Jonas Quinn was meant to replace him, but if they just 'bump' him it might cause some considerable problems. Not everyone was bothered when Daniel ascended and MS left the show.

And the only comment the article made about this was the rather brusque following quote:

<<Shanks' replacement was Corin Nemec, playing a character named Jonas Quinn.>>

That was all they had to say? Blimey. I have an extraordinarily bad feeling about this!

LOL

;)

personally....just descending him and 'whee, we're back to 'normal'' will be a mistake. It's a giant re-set switch that will totally negate the angst and drama of his ascension.

anyone else think 'it's all a dream pam and bobby's in the shower?' (dallas for those of you that don't know. they had a popular character leave for a time, killed him off....then reset the whole show by having him come back by saying the whole time he was gone was a dream )

Sorta like having a member of the Q on the crew or having every episode happening in the holodeck or a sarc in the infirmary...where's the drama if you know all they gotta do is pop ya in a sarc and you're all better?

And what if he retains some of the knowledge of his glowy friends? I see people complaining all the time about Super! Sam...Having him retain any knowledge/powers will be pretty much the same. He'll be a Marty Sue of the finest order.

I trust the writers to do what they think is best but if MS comes back on a full time basis it's gonna have to be something pretty danged spectacular or it's gonna be a silly sci-fi cliche which is not fair to the character and the usually decent quality of the show

For those who can't get the link to work...

Here's the article:

Shanks back with Stargate
Dr. Daniel Jackson returns as series goes for season 7

Sorelle Saidman
The Province

Stargate SG-1 fans, hang on to your Goa'ulds . . . Daniel Jackson lives!

Well, maybe not. But he's back.

Fans can rejoice because not only is the popular shot-in-Vancouver sci-fi series returning for a seventh season, Vancouver actor Michael Shanks will be back to reprise the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson -- much to the relief of the savedanieljackson.com site, we're sure.

Shanks exited the show at the end of season five after complaining that his character, who dated back to the original 1994 Stargate movie (where he was played by James Spader), was being under-used.

Shanks walked. Dr. Jackson, in turn, gave up his human life during that season's finale and ascended to a higher plane of existence. He returned for one season-six episode in spirit form.

Other than Shanks and star and series producer Richard Dean Anderson, no other cast members have been confirmed, although an announcement was pending at press time.

Shanks' replacement was Corin Nemec, playing a character named Jonas Quinn.

Other stars of the series include Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and Vancouver native Teryl Rothery.

The show was on Showtime until last year, when it was picked up the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel.

=======================================
As to how it's handled, well, I know there's been a lot of fan fic that's addressed various ways. Several of them have been good reads without diluting the impact of the original ascenscion.

I know everyone has their own opinions on how things have gone over the last year. I think there have been several of us who were willing to see what aspects the character of Jonas brought to the show. And I, for one, have found Corin Nemic to be a pleasent man to chat with. I think it's only fair to see what this next step might bring for all concerned.
