Anyway, Is there any news on how many tickets have been sold so far for this up and coming Gatecon 2004?

first has a date been set for Sehks party, im guess its gonna be the night of hte 13th, but i want to confirm that

second were any dates given yet for when the Set tours and hte City tours would be

Hey Tim,

I can't answer the first one (best do a search on the Gategoers list)

As for the bus tour and studio tour... We havn't finalized anything for the city tour yet, and we won't know about the set tour till about a month or two before Gatecon.

This is a general reply to ... everything .... I have been away for a week and I am exhausted just looking at the forum boards. I'll never get through all of it!

Philo and Tim - yes I feel a Gatecon band coming on ..... why not? A little bit of jazz ... anyone here play bass or piano? And if anyone wants to hear any of my flute playing - I got my last recital up on the Net now over at http://gitwyiaville.tripod.com/flute.htm

Secondly, What is the deal with Sekh's party and all of this? What is it all about? I am a newbie to the Gatecon arena. And the set tours ... Shelbs told me those are tickets that are auctioned, so I think I am out for that one. Aardie has no money!!

Last thing - accomodation. I have booked with Shelbs and her group, but I am going to be getting there a day earlier. I am fine with paying for the room at the Con hotel for the one night by myself and all, but who do I talk to so that I can organise it so that I would get to the room that we are staying in the day before, and the rest of the group gets there the day after?

Long question .... Aardie needs sleep.

May be a bit of a problem since there are really no areas available for music unless you're in your own room. Also, the hotel doesn't have a piano.

Also, probably not a good idea to try and take over the lobby since we're not the only folks using the hotel.

Not trying top rain on your parade, but you may find yourselves outside on the patio unless some other guest of the hotel compains. This place puts up a lot of airline crews when need a certain amount of quiet to sleep between flights.

The Sehk Party is a private fund raising buffett/party/auction that takes place on the Wedenesday night before the con starts. It raises funds for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We sell a limited number of tickets and there's usually a few actors who wander in and help us run the auction. Last year Don Davis, Colin Cunningham, Doug Arthurs, David Palfry and Brent Strait came by and really helped out a lot. I wish I could give you the web site but it's currently under revision.

We usually don't find out about the set tour until a couple of months before the con. Keep checking back here - we'll let you know.

Just make sure thehotle knows you're all together. Thqan when the first one of you checks in, remind them. Also, we usually have a couple of sandwich boards up and available for folks to leave notes on.

LOL - It's all good Rowan - it's was just a fun and games kind of thing. I was just joking around. I am taking my flute to the convention because I want to get the case signed by my fav Stargate cast. A friend of mine was daring me to play it at the convention as a joke or a prank or something. But yeah - you have a point. All good!

Hey, I'd like to see it happen. Like I said, I've been trying to figure out how to have a good old fashioned SF-style filk sing. Maybe if we put our heads together, we can work something out.

Rowan <currently with only a guitar, a hammered dulcimer, a bodhran, a dombeck, several penny whistles, several recorders and wishing her Irish lap harp, clarinet, flute and 12 string guitar had survived the house fire ...

FILK! FILK! Yes! I'll be in on that, Rowan! I have a few Filks up my sleeve. Some about Jonas. And of course - the Mistress of Gitwyia Theme song (sung to Les Miserables "Do You Hear The People Sing?") If you want to work something out, me and my darling flute Thalia will always be ready and able for the fun! lol!

If you lived in Brisbane, you could have borrowed my student Jupiter flute. Feel sad that you lost so much in a housefire .... Do you want an oboe? I can teach you! Of course, I may not be able to bring it to Gatecon because of insurance ...

Filking!

I've got a selection of personal filks [ones I've written] that are a variety of Stargate, other fandoms, space flight, SF&F and SCA. Not counting all the ones I've been collecting over the years since I discovered filking back in the late 60's - early 70's. It would be fun to share.

Oboe: I suck at double reed and am terribly out of practice with single. I had my jaw rebuilt back in the mid 80's to correct a bad underbite and TMJ problems and my embrasure's never been the same since. I've always wanted to play the Scottish pipes and the irish ullian pipes, so I guess it's something I need to learn. I also miss my old accordian. I used to be pretty good. I mean, if you can picture 'Flight of the Bumblebee' performed on the 120 bass concert accordian, that's where I was. But that was years ago. now I'm more of a 'hobby musician'.

I've done the three years of music at uni now so I am supposed to be an expert. HA! But I would call myself more of a personal musician. I play what I feel usually. When I find a piece that really speaks to me, I learn it and play it.

And flute players make the worst oboe players. Because we bite on the reed more as a natural thang, it doesn't allow the reed to vibrate as much and, as a result, the intonation is really not so great! That's why I didn't major on oboe. But hey - when we get to Gatecon and you want to have a go of my flute, let me know OK? I have a screwed up embochure too. It's a tad sideways, but I apparently have a brillian tone. That's what my teachers tell me - I can never hear it! I would be delighted if you would have a listen to that recording - as one musician to another I would love to hear what your opinion is!

I got ticket #159, and I know a whole lot of other people who are beyond that. I'm presuming it is ..... beyond 300 maybe? Anyone want to bet? I bet 3 blue peanut M&Ms on it being past 300.

I don't have any exact numbers, but Richard sent me an email last month telling us that we were slightly up on ticket sales from the same time last year. (bearing in mind that this con is also 2 months earlier this year)

Hmm...I'm lacking in the Lindt White Chocolate balls, but I've got a stash of Motzart balls somewhere. I'm good for it
