What Anime and Animation are you currently watching?

There's quite a bit of 3D in Demon Slayer.
As there is in Princess Mononoke (1997), an anime made by a studio known for its classic 2D animation.

Many, not to say the most, of anime productions today have some 3D in it. Normally for the lack of time and money (they do it by outsourcing).

My problem is with those fully CGI anime. They’re uncanny.

I've not watched any animations for ages, but I was bought a book called Ghiblioteque about, surprisingly, Studio Ghibli films, and it's pretty interesting.

Some of them, certainly. Have you watched Beastars? That's fully 3D, and I think the style works well. You've already mentioned Dorohedoro. But you need a team that knows what they're doing, and (I assume) money.

I did watch Beastars (the first season). I don't agree with its politics, so I refuse to watch/read the rest, but I admit that the CGI works.

Sadly, that's not what happens with 90% of 3D anime.

Another great episode of Tenguko-Daimakyo (#11), after last week's slightly below-par one. It's the highlight of my week at the moment.

I also watched Devilman: Crybaby, which was... something. (Actually despite its flaws and WTF-ery, it made a serious impact and I think will stay with me for quite a while.) Also a couple of eps of Black Lagoon, which passed the time OK but made me think I ought to be rewatching Cowboy Bebop instead.

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts is actually funny. But, it just started in April, so binge-watching is out.

Urawa no Usagi-chan is funny, but only 3.5 minutes per ep.

Finished THE SIMPSONS, s 14, d #1, still to run the commentary track

Two DVDs that have been in my NF queue forever, watched

HARVEY TOONS D #1 last weekend, & ROGER RAMJET #1 Today.

Really love those wild expressions when people realize Casper is a g-g-g-ghost!

@HareBrain Update on Heavenly Delusion: it seems we were right about the two sets of characters being on different timelines. Now, there’s still the mystery of the babies. They got mixed up.

And this just keeps getting better and better.

I found Last Exile on Crunchyroll , and since I have fond memories of watching it back about 2007, thought I'd give it another go. Some janky CGI, but I like the main characters and the world. Why can't western TV do anything this inventive story-wise?

Just finished s1 / part 1 of INSIDE JOB on NF. the end of e #10 / 10 was very predictable. Also very enjoyable. s2/part 2 has only 8 eps.

Childhood memories: GROOVIE GOOLIES; simply awful! Just finished D #2, & expect to mail it this afternoon. With luck, NF will mail the next DVD tomorrow, & hope to receive it on Saturday.

Anyway, GG uses many very short animated clips, very frequently, & makes very little unique animation for each episode. Dozens of animators are listed in the closing credits. I vaguely recall mentioning this series previously. Likely said the same thing then as now.

Did notice Larry Storch listed among the voice talent. Recall his name from F Troop.

Nope, not good enough for a rewatch. I remember some good bits later on, but not enough to be worth the slog.

Inuyasha is about to leave Netflix, so I finally got around to starting that. After an uncertain beginning, it's settling in quite nicely.

SKULL ISLAND. seems PG rated. South Seas expedition on a fairly good sized yacht meets very large Squiddly-Diddly, and must go to island. But, nasty critters live there. Excitement, drama, conflict, etc., not bad, but not quite what I was expecting. King Kong has been taking growth serum, & is nearly as large as Godzilla, in this one. eight, count 'em 8 episodes in part 1.

Another good episode of Heavenly Delusion, but maybe a bit underwhelming as a season closer. I wasn't sure it would be be the final episode right up until the ending. It didn't really resolve anything (that we hadn't already deduced). Annoying that I have to wait another year or two for more, assuming it ever comes.

I had a look at Summertime Rendering, but a couple of tired anime cliches in the first couple of minutes put me off. I hear very good things about it, though, so I might give it another chance.

I recommend Summertime Render. Things escalate fast, and soon you find yourself dying to solve the mystery. I agree that it shows some unnecessary naughty stuff though.

How fast does the main character escalate to anything resembling a personality? I gave it another couple of minutes. Maybe I'll watch two minutes a week and see how far that gets me.

In the meantime, I started a rewatch of Heavenly Delusion, while I wait for the first volume of the manga to arrive.

"Maybe I'll watch two minutes a week" made my day

It's not really the main character that escalates, but rather the plot itself.

Just received PENELOPE PITSTOP #3.

Was thinking about buying HARVEYTOONS collection, & deleting from my MF queue. But, $170 for 4 disc set? o_O
