National Novel Writing Month 2006

Wow! Well done Patrick! That's a real achievement, writing that many words in a month! It's taken me about a year and a half to write that many! :D I bet it's mentally draining though. Once again, well done!
And well done to everyone else who's reached the target, or came close...and also just for participating! *Hands out gold stars to all* :D

Well done Partick for me, it's back to editing the " real" novel

OK guys - it's now a month since NaNo 2006 finished. So are any of you planning to do further work on whatever you wrote during November, or has it been put permanently to one side? I'd love to hear. I haven't touched my first draft yet, but am planning to in January.

I've made myself a New Year's resolution to write more material, and to try to rewrite more of it, so I'm not just left with lots of first drafts that aren't really much good. Anyone else in a similar position?

Oh, and a Happy New Year to all of you!

Patrick.

Re: National Novel Writing Month

So, who's doing NaNoWriMo 2007? I am, and I've written 3,000 words so far - though that's artificially high, as I stayed up and started writing at one second past midnight on Thursday night, to get a head start :)

Good luck to any and all NaNo-ers this year!

I am, but why isn't there a new thread for 2007? Why do we have to use a stale thread that's gone all moldy from last year? ;)

I'm sitting at 23k and change. :)

You've done 23k already?! How on earth have you managed that? I'm at just under 9k, admittedly a bit behind schedule, but I thought I wasn't doing too badly! :)

Hope it continues to go well for you - let me know how you're getting on. What's your name on the NaNo boards? (Mine's the same - I'm rather boring on names.)

*Stands at the sidelines like last year and begins cutting oranges into halves and filling water bottles to hand out to the plucky writers*

Hope it all goes well for everyone this month! Despite saying last year that maybe this time I'd be able to join in, it seems I have even more work now so alas not. Maybe next year (she says now, knowing that the third year of university is probably going to be the most grueling :D) Anyway...go people, go people, go go go!

I'm unofficially participating, and at about 8k words. It's that whole "don't write any of it beforehand" thing that keeps me from making it official. And then there's the whole wrapping it up soundly at the end of the month thing, too. But the 50k words are on their way.

Over there, I'm... quidscribis. :D Yes, also boring. :D

I don't have a job, I don't have kids, and I can devote all the time I want to writing, barring making sure the hubby is fed and has clean clothes to wear and the bathroom isn't totally disgusting and the garbage isn't attracting insects. Really, my life is that flexible, and the hubby is that supportive. :) Of course, he's a writer, too...

Plus I've been honing the art of blitz drafting for years, which tremendously helps. :)

I'm now at 27k and change. I didn't make my quota for the day, but today is an exception to my usual life - I have a tonne of things to do and not a lot of time. We're heading out of town tomorrow.

Ah, they've put the author search feature back up on the NaNo boards now, so I've just found your profile, quidscribis - liked the extract too. How are you getting on now - and you too, Lith?

Thanks for the oranges, Hoopy! Just the thing for the flagging intellect (and fingers!)

I'm up to 16,000 words now, which is a bit behind target if I want to do 50k words in the month, but there's time to catch up. Now back to work emails - doh! :)

I always failed misserably at this idea, so... I decided not go participate at all...

You liked my extract? You know it's a first completely unedited draft, right? But I'll take it. :) I guess that means it has hope, huh?

I've done no writing for the last four days - long story short, out of town, ill, too much going on. Will resume again tomorrow, assuming the tonsillitis doesn't take over my entire existence. Still sitting at 27k.

How's everyone else doing?

Well we're halfway through November, so I should have written 25,000 words by now. Instead, I'm up to 19,400 - so I've got plenty to do this weekend! How are you getting on, quidscribis? What about you, Lith?

I'm currently at 33k, but since I'm going for finishing the full novel by the end of the month, plus possibly finishing another project, I'm really going for 100k, so I'm behind. :) But I had a few days of out of town and not writing, so... But then, the hubby's parents are in town for a few days, so writing will likely suffer... But I'm still determined to do the 100k by the end of the month. I guess I'm just insane. :D

As a side note, Fahim, the hubby and fellow Chronicler, has created a word count widget. It's not specifically for NaNoWriMo - it can be used on any writing project to keep track of word count and post the graph in your signature line, blog, website, whatever. He's still working on fancifying it, but it's got the basics now. It looks like this...
graph.php

I'm at 16,500. Not my best, and definitely behind. We'll see what phenomenal progress can be made on this my last free weekend this month.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out where to take it; I know where it needs to end, it's all the steps in between that are the problem. This is why they want you to start a fresh novel! (and trying to balance three types of symbolism in the novel isn't helping.;))

Well I'm above 31k now. Can't say it's my best writing, but the plot is moving forward slowly.

How's everyone's progress?

[FONT=Arial, Verdana, Helvetica]Haven't written much in several days - the inlaws came to town, and when that happens, it throws my schedule completely out of whack, and I end up doing more stuff cuz, you know, it's the inlaws, so I also end up in more pain... Chronic pain sucks, ya know? :)

Add to that that I really need to develop the curriculum for the school/college - it's vital to the plot - and that's had me in headaches. *sigh*

I whine, I complain, but tomorrow, I write again. It's either that, or the hubby beats me. Or nags me. Or something. :D Oh, and I'm sitting at 37k+

I think we all took a hit when family came to town.:D Whoever set this during the holiday season? January's sitting nice and empty out there. It's not like people do things during January.

I'm at 43k. The frightening part is I still haven't got to what I consider the vital plot elements. I don't need a 500k story! (I'm not afraid to chop large chunks out, but I would like to get a draft done sometime. Oh well, it doubles as world-building I guess.

I've had a headache with support material too. In order to get to my relevant notes, I had to sort through a large (I mean LARGE) pile of notes for the last couple years. I think that's part of the delay with the plot- can't move forward until I sort a few things out, which are in disarray. And sorting the relevant bits mean sorting ALL of it into appropriate files. But it's done now and now I just need to sort the relevant stuff.

At least I don't have to try and wrap the book up yet.

I passed 41k, so I'm feeling much better. :D This book is showing no signs of slowing down - I'm also beginning to wonder how long it's going to end up being. I don't think it'll turn into a monstrosity, but I don't want more than, say, 140k for sure. I could live with 100-120k, and I suspect that won't be too hard based on how it's going now. :)

Ack.

And I've also got loose plans for another three more novels set in the same universe, at least one involving the same two main characters. *sigh*
