What comic books/graphic novels are you reading at the moment?

Given the huge amount of stuff out there, you might want to help us a little by telling us what you like. Otherwise we might put forward suggestion that you totally do not care for. :)

If it is superheroes then is there anyone in particular? Are you thinking Japanese anime and manga? How about standalone comics or series like the Sandman? Or graphic novels based on novels?

The more information you provide, the better the suggestions will be.

Manga : Berserk,Hajime No Ippo,Fullmetal Alchemist,Hunter X Hunter,One Piece,Claymore,Hellsing,GANTZ.

Comics: Invincible,Hellboy,Walking Dead,Deadpool,Max Punisher,Hellblazer

Those come to mind right now.

Check them out.

Well I liked Pokemon when I was younger . adventure, fantasy and real life are my fave types :D

For Fantasy, I'd definitely have a read of Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.

Maybe also try American Splendor ... you can't get much more real life than Harvey Pekar's stuff ...

Have been reading The Crow by J.O. Barr. Had been looking for this one a long time and finally found it in Forbidden Planet. I love the movie and the graphic novel is much better. Very stark. All the art in black and white.

Also read The Killing Joke by Alan Moore. I bought it in the reissued hardback. My original one is the paper comic and it's pretty old so am very glad to have got the hardback. Always has been one of my favourite standalone Batman comics. The other one is Arkham Asylum.

When its about Batman there are no better stories than these : Year One,The Dark Knight Returns,Long Halloween,Dark Victory

Connavar - I like the story in Dark Knight Returns but am not too fond of the artwork. I do however like both the art and the story in Long Halloween. Also am quite fond of Death and the Maidens, which has Ra's al Ghul.

And for something different there's Batman in Kingdom Come. Looks rather like Gregory Peck and it's very well done. I can absolutely see him becoming that way as he grows older and the rest of them too.

Tim Sale is my favorit artist after Long Halloween and Dark Victory. He is simply amazing with his strange gothic style.

Reading Fables: Wolves and Sons of Empire (Vol 8,9 respectively).

Cheers, DeepThought

Just finished Batman: Year One. It's my first non-manga comic, but I was curious about the Batman comics and Year One seemed a good place to start. Really enjoyed it!

I've had that one for a while now, it's great. The Crow is my favourite movie and I recently picked up the DVD set featuring all 22 episodes of the US TV series done in the late 90s.

Finished Wolves and Sons of Empire. The former takes a break from the major plot arc of the series...and takes the time to resolves some of the minor issues. Aside from being a tad bit more specific on the authors political views...(to my taste at least), this is a solid addition to the series. The latter; Sons of Empire introduces new characters, digs deeper into some of the recurring ones, father and son...But nothing much happens in terms of the advancement of the storyline other than setup for the next volume (The Good Prince). Now have started 1001 Nights of Snowfall also by Bill Willingham.

Cheers, DeepThought

Reading some old Neon Genesis Evangelion manga I found after a clean up. Amazing what you find sometimes - one of the benefits to tidying up.:)

It's hot off the presses. Mine is the second one signed by the author. I haven't read it in its finished state yet as I'm in the middle of other stuff, but am looking forward to it. Camille Picott was in a SF crit group I was in years ago and I loved this story then. What is it, already, you say?
Raggedy Chan by Camille Picott, illustrated by Joey Manfre. It's for kids or adults. Chinese fairy tales wrapped in a cookie, and speaking to the harsh realities of being multi-ethnic in America. Home Page

I've started in on Marvel's Runaways mostly because I loved Brian K. Vaughn's Y: The Last Man. Not as good as that title, but not too bad...
