What comic books/graphic novels are you reading at the moment?

Just bought and read "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, books one and two". The first one was great. The second was not great, but very good.

I just finished looking at a copy of Yoshitaka Amano's new book Mateki: The Magic Flute. The story is based on Mozart's classical opera, entitled Die Zauberflöte. It tells the story in full color illustration about a prince battling evil to rescue his princess. Amano is famous for his work on Vampire Hunter D, Final Fantasy and Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. With this new graphic novel he wonderfully crafts a story full of his visionary artworks. This is a book that will be a classic.

...I loved Brian K. Vaughn's Y: The Last Man...

I've seen you mention Bill Willingham's Fables, think it was in the best-reads-of-the-year-thread, not exactly sure, but it was one of the reasons why I decided to pick it up, ended up loving it a lot too. Collected all the current volumes plus the prequel. I've eyed Y: The Last Man every trip I made to the comic shop though kept off buying it for some reason...If you don't mind me asking, is Y as good as Fables? I'm trying to make sure before investing. :)

Just started Dark Genesis (Swamp Thing) by Len Wein & Berni Wrightson.

As always there are far too many to count (bad comic book reader that is me - or good depending how you look at it). Mostly superhero stuff, just finished Giant Sized Astonishing X-men 1 by Joss Whedon which was fun but sad ending; but must recommend House Of Mystery from VERTIGO only gently tying in with Sandman vaguely. It's written by Matt Faction and BillWillingham of Jack of Fables and is really quite good... Maybe the next big thing...

Just finished Persepolis (Marjane Satrapi) - excellent book, strongly recommended!!

Do you read Invicible ?

The most fun and fresh young superhero i have read since backreading Lee/Ditko spiderman. Sure its fresh cause its new but the writing is great.

I have read a few issues of Invincible and would agree with you - unfortunately I read far too many comics and I could not keep getting it. But it was fresh and a lot of fun. If I remember the writer was Robert Kirkman - he's done bits and pieces for Marvel recently. All of it was good, but none of it matched Invincible

Kirkman is like Ennis he needs his freedom in image or other creator owned work place. The Walking Dead is even better than Invincible.

He is like many great writers that people think its not good with the big two but better with his own stories.

Just sitting down with a few comics as I attempt to clear my reading (comicbook) pile

Clandestine by Alan Davis - the last in a 5 issue ltd series featuring his family of superheroes. Its a shame that Davis is virtually forgotten in this day and age because this series reminds me of what a talent he is.

X-Men: Legacy. The revitalised X-Men title by Mike Carey and Scott Eaton

Then two by J Michael Straczynski - his 12 issue ltd series THE TWELVE featuring twelve characters from the golden age of comics revitalised and brought into the modern day. Art by Chris Weston - a lot of fun and probably well worth the graphic novel when it arrives.

And the JMS take on THOR a lot of fun, if nothing else!

Tank Girl part 1: chaotic, weird, crude, often almost without story but - and this is where it scores points - unpretentious and fun.

Finished Marvel 1602. What if Marvel characters were to appear in the early seventeenth century London? Gaiman interweaves them flawlessly with the significant happenings of that particular interesting period of history...He does the said what-if-scenario without loosing continuity unlike many other such alternate history story counterparts. This tale (eight issue mini series) is such that you don't necessarily need much familiarity with the Marvel Universe to enjoy it (though having read the odd comic or two doesn't hurt) , this is testament to how good a writer Gaiman is and I've greatly enjoyed it. Definitely worth the investment if you're into graphic novels and must-have for Gaiman fans.

Now reading The Dream Hunters by Neil Gaiman & Yoshitaka Amano.

Now I didn't enjoy 1602 at all, that being said I have got the hardbacked version in my collection, perhaps this is something that is in need of re-reading...

Currently still playing catchup with the last couple of month's worth.. am just hitting the Buffy series 8, Angel After The Fall and Fables

Im reading WWHulk event.

Perpetual Man have you read it ? Is the any of the tie ins important ?

I read it, but on it's own without any of the tie-ins, and it was superb without them. Sometimes all these spin-offs and tie-ins drag a series down a bit.
