First Lines

Looking out the window, he couldn't quite place the season. For that matter he couldn't place where he was. That was when he realized, he didn't even know who he was. He stepped backwards towards the bed and sat down. Something felt warm and wet beneath him. He turned to see the bloody lump on the bed. The only thing that was visible was a hand. A petite hand, with a matching ring to his own.
 
...but one piece of history needed to be clarified in Lucy's mind first. She paused.
 
I'd fallen. Like an Angel. Like an optimistic lover. Like a price on the stock exchange. Like someone had cut my parachute.
 
"The girl fled across the wintry woodland, and her reindeer ran beside her."
 
The river divides the city like no-man's land divides front-lines ; with casualties on both sides.
 
"I want to revisit my past, and I want to remain there."
 
When the first cracks appeared, everyone was excited, but they didn't realise that what would eventually emerge would be dangerously far from what they were expecting.
 
It was a dark and stormy night so Delbert stayed inside where it was bright and warm. It was his first mistake.
 
There they stood. The same place they stood a thousand times hence, but something had changed.
