First Lines

Shadows of no earthly creature I knew danced across the wall, and the door creaked open further to admit the first of them.
 
The gods made all children innocent at birth so they could learn from thier peers and find thier own paths through life. One god in spite of its brethren decided to imbue a spark of evil to all unborn children. The god was banished and it's memory wiped from the histories of the world but even they could not change what had already been done...
 
If, at the beginning, Ethan Bummlegub had known that eating a ham sandwich would lead to intergalactic war he probably wouldn't have eaten it. Probably.
 
I woke the same as any other day.

The only difference on this occasion was that there was a Zumphyr hanging from my sheets, making obscene gestures.

Not this again, I thought.
 
"Are you sleeping with my husband?" The tears in my eyes did nothing to blind me from the guilt on my brothers face.
 
The book said that all it took to rouse the beast was one drop, so I readied my knife and prayed that I was doing the right thing.

"What in the...?" I looked up and saw a thousand million crystal shards falling to earth, as the cracks in what I thought was the sky began to widen.
 
I opened my eyes and saw her corpse, laying pale and twisted on the bed next to me, her lips blue, the moment of surprise still captured on her delicate features, re-awakening in me the memory of her blood.
 
Someone once said war was good for nothing, they were wrong, war was good for business, well...my business anyway.

I once stated that war was good for business... that was until I found myself on the losing side... it's hard to turn a profit when you're chained to a work gang, even for someone like me. But as they say where there's a will there's a way.
 
Why was there a sheep on my bed? I could have sworn I hadn't ordered room service.
