Character Creation Chain

Sigurd Olafsson

A slave to the ale and with the belly to prove it! A much loved member of the community Sigurd is the town shipwright. His work is mainly on small fishing vessels, fixing leaky hulls and mending broken masts. His face is dominated by a long, white, beard which is plaited to a point, often resting on his belly. He is very much the storyteller, and his adventures across the seas known far and wide. Sadly his body is starting to fail him and so he is passing on his trade to his new apprentice.

Jon Hrafn

Jon Hrafn

A martyr to nasal infections, Jon wonders why no-one uses his real name, Jonathon Ramsbotham. But he's a trusting soul, working in the background, trying to come up with a way to beat the slot machines hidden in the back room of the pub. Not that he would ever play. That wouldn't be right. But his inner god tells him to do it. And it tells him to the give the answer, of that and more practical problems, to Dave Neasden, the loud mouth office manager. John Hibble

Aging, run down and eternally pessimistic, John is your classic "old" gentleman. Raised on rations and a war or two, John hates nothing more than "the world nowadays". He continues to work despite his old age, nimble hands making light work on his fruit and veg stall. A yellow tinged beard frames his thin mouth, stained by the pipe which he smokes continuously. His vocabulary is limited and littered with profanity and cursing, even when discussing trivial matters. Despite his misgivings he is an integral part of the market experience, and in being the oldest trader alive, acts as a tourist attraction.

Honir Dipknuckle

Honir Dipknuckle

Everyone always asks old Honir where he got his unusual surname from, and he's always willing - not to mention proud - to tell them. Usually sitting at his table in the pub, pipe and pint in hand, he begins his tale.

"Three centuries ago, one of my ancestors ran a distillery," Honir would tell them. "The still was prided throughout the land for the quality of the spirits it produced, and whenever people stopped by they always had a dram or two to soothe their travellers' souls. They always asked what the secret to such a good spirit was, and his ancestor always used to joke about the body of the drink being the key." Honir would take a sip of his ale and continue. "My ancestor used to test the ale by dipping his knuckle into the vat, and when it was just right, he would add his secret ingredient. To this day, no-one knows what the secret ingredient was," Honir chortled, "although there were all sorts of rumours..."

It was hardly surprising that people were unimpressed.

He has ambitions to extend his stables to the next village, however, is content at the moment with his life.

But he continues to dream and complain. His wife thinks that he prefers the act of complaining to actually trying to find something better.

Herbert Wolverley

Herbert Wolverley lives behind the oven of no. 36 Green Road in Poole. When the house is empty and quiet, Herbert emerges and fulfills his duty to care for the house's owners. Well, he did until the owners decided to knock the wall down between the lounge and kitchen. Herbert felt the damage done to the house as if his own arm had been severed from his body. So from that day forward Herbert's mission became that of getting the current owners - the house maimers - out.

He was too good at his job.

Lilli Dushanka

Lilli Dushanka

A woman of middle age but appreciable looks, Lilli holds the men at her local ballroom dancing group in awe. Everyone wants to be her partner, even though she has a reputation as being very strict, strident, and more than a little bossy. Rumours abound that she used to be a world champion at dancing, although if she was she never talks about it. According to one particular rumour, she got very competitive at one point, and the police were even involved. Nonetheless, all the men are still captivated by her dance.

Fidelia Bright

Fidelia Bright

Fidelia envy's Lilli Dushanka's dancing skills. Fidelia has the proverbial two left feet when it comes to dancing, and even after many many embarassing hours of dance lessons under Lilli's tutoring have not helped improve her skill level.

Fidelia wants to be able to dance at least reasonably well, she is getting married soon and wants to look good on the dance floor. However she is beginning to doubt herself and her feet ache from hours of practise.

Miles Upton

Miles Upton

Known everywhere within a twenty mile radius as "The Christmas Man". Always enthusiastic with his Christmas decorating, he usually has the majority of his decorations up in early October, and it was once reported in the local newspaper that some people could see the display as they travelled overhead in an aeroplane. He decks his house with so many bulbs and suchlike that his electricity bill is astronomical, but he doesn't care - Christmas comes but once a year, after all - or so he says. His neighbours think he should tone it down, and more than one has tried a spot of "accidental" sabotage...

Gerald Hobbson

Gerald Hobson

Unfortunatly for Gerald he lives directly across the road from Miles Upton, even worse is that Gerald HATES christmas. He has hated christmas ever since he was five and his parents were unable to keep him and handed him in to an orphanage.

Gerald soon learnt that Father Christmas didn't come to the orphanage children, not that his parents could really afford to give Gerald a special christmas anyway, but at least they had made some small effort.

Because Gerald grew up largely unloved and had to work hard for everything he got in life, he didn't believe in wasting his hard earned money on frivilious decorations and expensive lights.

Gerald had no children, he had never meet anyone he had wanted to share his money with.

So every year he watched Miles Upton put up his silly decorations and he hated it when all the children stopped to oooh and ahhhh over all the decorations and the jiggling Santa and his reindeer who's noses lite up.

He never joined the rest of the people in the street for their christmas party however this year someone is about to change Gerald's view on christmas for ever..................

Silky the Slink

Silky didn't know his real name or his parents, for as long as Silky could remember he had grown up on the streets, stealing his way of life.

All the other street kids went by various names, Silky had gained his by been Silky smooth at his trade. If Silky wanted something he stole it and he had never been caught.

He lived well, he stole only what he needed to survive. He was as happy as a street kid could be. He couldn't read or write so he never bothered to look at newspapers or magazines which is a pity because if he had he would have seen the news headlines.

"Reward offered for any information on missing heir to Baxter Fortune"

For the truth was that Silky's real name was Maxwell Baxter and he was the grandson of one of the most influential and wealthy men in America.

Maxwell Baxter Snr.

Maxwell Baxter Snr.

One of the most influential and wealthy men in America, Maxwell Baxter Snr did not suffer fools greatly. He was rumoured to be able to see through any dissembling in a glance, and those in the media joked about how he must be psychic to be able to see through so many attempts to replace, implicate or dispose him in his not inconsiderable lifetime. As a younger man, he had been wild and free, going to wild parties every night and he very nearly squandered his family fortune until one particular event stopped him. After that, he knuckled down and became the tyrant he is today.

Archibald Rees

When Archibald Rees flew with the RAF during WWII he picked up the callsign 'Zipper' and thereafter he was known by his callsign to his friends and family. He fuelled the rumour that he was called 'Zipper' because he flew his plane faster and harder than everyone else, but the truth was less inspiring.

Summer 1940. Archibald had taken a trip into the Kent coutryside with a few of his pals and they had ended up drinking the evening away. Archibald had tried his luck all night with the barmaid but to no avail. But, never one to give up, Archy hung outside after time had been called waiting for the barmaid. Eventually she came out and Archy tried to intercept her whilst hailing her, but in his drunken stupor he tripped and fell against his car. The zipper on his flight jacket gouged a ten inch long scratch in his paintword.

The barmaid laughed as she headed home and Archy became Zipper.

Leila Storm

Leila Storm

With a name like hers, she was almost destined to go into television weather broadcasting. She also has an uncanny ability to get the weather correct - out of five years worth of weather presenting, she has not been wrong once, especially since she started doing the actual information gathering herself. A likeable sort, Leila always has time for anyone. She even spoke to the rather rude man who wanted to tell her that a different kind of bad weather was on the way...
