The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Yes that's right, and then she was going to die, and Aragorn would refuse to marry anyone else and the line would die out iirc - but I noticed the source wasn't allowed, so I changed tha question.

Brownie point anyway :D

edit: HoME? am I being thick cos I can't remember what that one is...

and I've just realised my source for that question isn't allowed either. What, not allowing unfinished tales? *shakes fist*

Ok I'll try and get it right this time (it's been a long day)

Finish my fave quote: Out of doubt, out of dark....

So he rode to a green hillock and there set his banner, and the White Horse ran rippling in the wind

Out of doubt, out of dark to the day's rising
I came singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
To hope's end I rode and to heart's breaking:
Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall!

These staves he spoke, yet he laughed as he said them....
He is Éomer: Théoden is dead, and, he thinks, Éowyn also, and he is making what he imagines is the last stand of the Rohirrim at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

HoME, by the way, is the History of Middle Earth, ed.Christopher Tolkien - the story of the writing of the Lord of the Rings. Not included because of the size of the damn thing. See Post#1 for details of the rules - we had to make them really tight because the last thread on this subject got a bit......silly.

Well done, big gold star for you. An extra one if you manged to know it without looking lol.

I have to admit to being at least half way in love with Eomer.....

as for HoME, I've got those, if it's the series I'm thinking of, but I didn't realise the set was called that. Shame I haven't got the letters...something to ask father Christmas for

Well worth getting...together with HoME, they add an extra dimension to an already solid edifice.

Right.....
Whereabouts in Middle-earth did the first of the Exiles land?

1484: In the spring of the year a message came from Rohan to Buckland that king Eomer wished to see Master Holdwine once again. Meriadoc was then old (102) but still hale.

*dingle a ling* nice.

OK, who is this?

An elven maid there was of old,
a shining star by day
Har mantle white was hemmed with gold
her shoes were silver grey

....A star was bound upon her brows,

A light was on her hair
As sun upon the golden boughs

In Lórien the fair.

It's Nimrodel, as sung about by Legolas on the outskirts of Lorien.

Hokay....

What was Bëor's original name?

But when after a year had passed Felagund wished to return to his own contry, Beor begged leave to come with him; and he remained in the service of the King of Nargothrond while his life lasted. In this way he got his name, Beor, whereas his name before had been Balan; for Beor signified 'Vassal' in the tongue of his people.

Well, it's the area around Oxford, as portrayed in Farmer Giles of Ham.

Mentioned as such in the Letters (121 - to Allen and Unwin - 13 July 1949) when JRRT refers to "...we used to beat the bounds of the L(ittle) K(ingdom) in an ancient car".
