The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Grimward gets the prize! I guess he also gets to ask another question.

Aw, crap.

Thanks Py, but (as can be seen), I was worried about how vague it was to begin with... with your agreement folks will rather defer to Marky, who did indeed get the quote. ( No worries then, Clanny?!! ;) )

*Ting*

The floor is yours, Marky!

Just as Grim, I took out a "trigger-word" which I'm going to put into the question now :D

Who has scarlet ears?

A little of both, Marky. Still gnawing at it, though.....(want my Letters book back!)

Yeah, I don't have any books anymore and that's a tragedy unto itself. So I won't really play since I cannot give citations or quotes... I'll just lurk and provide hints and suggestions.

I just seem to remember that Sam's automatic response when addressed by female elves was to turn red. Or maybe Sam wanted to punch out Ted, I misremember.

This was the answer:

'Step forward, Sam!' said Merry; and Sam stood up with a face scarlet up to the ears.
LOTR, FOTR I, Ch. 5 A Conspiracy Unmasked

For the taker, I can't think of any good questions any longer.

Ah, sorry Marky, I didn't read "up to his ears" to include Sam's ears, even after Boaz's hint (a bit addle-pated at times, I am!).

Right then, for whom would life and death be a curse?

(Tremble, Clanny, tremble; it's a grim question in more ways than one!)

*looks around, nervously*

Oh dear, I've killed the thread.

Um, OK, another clue....

There are (that I can think of) 2 correct answers, but only one place where the sought after quote lies....

I think I know the answer, but I don't have the quote yet.

Patience, Grasshopper.

Grim, I think everyone's given up on this one...

All right, let's have the guess, Clanny. Found or not, it wouldn't be the first time the thread reached this point, if my backreads are correct....

'But upon all whom you [Húrin] love my thought shall weigh as a cloud of doom ... They shall die without hope, cursing both life and death.'
The Children of Húrin, The Words of Húrin and Morgoth.

But I don't have a question.
