The chronicles word counter!

undermemory: 20,000 / est. 25,000 (long way from the initial 10,000!)
Ugh. Last part is proving to be brutal. Party because the scenes I'm writing are out of my comfort zone, and I'm pretty sure they're not "technically" correct. So, slow going -- at least, it feels that way. Trying to ward off ideas for my next story until this one's finished, but even that's proving difficult. Really feeling the urge to put the finish on this one and move on.
undermemory: 26,000 / est. 25,000
Writing the final scene, then I will be putting this story aside for several weeks to a month and begin work on another short, 30,000 - 40,000 word project.

My plan for subsequent revisions is to increase the story by another 5,000-10,000. I tend to under-write many of the scenes. Getting better, though. The first scenes were on average 500 words, and these later ones are typically double, or triple, that length.

Update as of 9 September 2011

6) Collection: Late Nights with Ezzie Dryar
Genre: Humour, A series of fictitious blogs
Current Word Count: 25,000 of an awkward length of 60,000
Status: A fake 500 word blog each day until I get tired of it. 41 of 80 chapters complete, each a stream of consciousness scene based on a random tarot card chosen each day. (They are getting longer as I go.) It's just something to keep my mind off writer's block. Ezzie has decided to write a book and she is telling her readers what is in it. MY readers are pushing me to write it. I won't start it until I'm done with this. Each installment has a synopsis of a new chapter, so I can piece it together and flesh it out when I'm done. It's not really my genre, though. Too many devils and demons. It's a paranormal romance set in Hell!

Unfinished...

1) Short novel: 'An Unwanted Miracle'
Genre: Horror/Urban crime thriller
Current word count: 40,000 of a first(ish) draft
Status: Ongoing. I'm aiming for a finished draft of about 60,000 words by the end of October.

Novel - A Moment in Darkness (working title, but leaning to it more and more.)
Genre - Dark, psychological, personal sci-fi
Currnet word count - 51882
Status - Going very well. I've been writing quite a lot this last few days or so, hitting 3k+ a day. I have a target of finishing a farly well detailed first draft of this by Sept 20th (give or take) I'm probably over the halfway mark, but im useless at projections... could be near that the last part of the story gets told in 20k, could be 50... will keep you posted.

Novel - A Moment in Darkness.
Genre - Dark, psychological, personal sci-fi
Current word count - 68776
Start date - 6th August 2011
Status - This is done; well as done as my first drafts get. I have finished the story, but have to go back flesh out scenes (some greatly) add other scenes, more character detail. But the main story is finished. The ending came faster than i expected, but with the finished detail level should be every bit as tear jerking as i think... assuming i get down on paper most of what is in my head:)

Finished going through the short story 'Openings' completed at 3,890 words.
Not sure what to do with it at the moment, as it is not a stand alone story, so it can sit there and wait for a bit.

Now to decide which one to concentrate on next.

Finished this today, around 3:30 AM. About 28,000 words. Second draft, when I get around to it, will be purely additive -- I'd love to boost it by another 5,000-10,000 words.

On to the next one.

HKV (MC2):
epic fantasy revengeness
approx 38000 words
now on hiatus, having stormed through the prologue and the first six chapters. time to take a step back and breathe...

...and go back to...

The Kiiren Boy (ED3)
multi-viewpoint space flannel with knobs on
approx 36000 (of around 50k) and rising
has been waiting patiently while plot threads coalesced in my head; now it needs finishing off.

Novel - The Survivor.
Genre - Science Fiction survival/thriller
Perspective - First-person. (Third-person just wouldn't cut it)
Current word count - 37,286
Start date - September 2009
Status - Started this quite a while back but have only recently had the opportunity to really concentrate on finishing it. I plan to hit at least 40k words by Friday and to finish the whole thing by November. Then, after a break from writing, I'll get a ticket for editville. I hear it's a long, drawn-out journey.

Provisional title: Black as Night
Genre: Fantasy (definitely no dragons)
Word count: 20,165
Status: for the characters -- the men still walking through mountain tunnels but nearing the end, Chais going for a ride in the bay as and when ideas and the practicalities of rowing boats manage to coincide; for me -- happier now the pace of writing has picked up, but still not sure where things are going.
Provisional title: Black as Night
Genre: Fantasy (still no dragons but a corzzato has made an appearance)
Word count: 40,080
Status: for the characters -- the men have finally left the tunnels. Huzzah! Chais back on dry land but rowing of a different sort happening.
.......... for me -- still wondering what the plot might be.

settling down into new workplace at the moment, so not much writing to speak of. but:

ED3 ~49000 words. coming together nicely now.
Project P (medieval filth...) ~2000 words.

more on these soon.....

Novel: Remembered in Blood
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Word count: 76,645
Current Status: I have finally reached the turning point of this novel. Everything up until now has been preparing for this one moment. The anti-hero discovers a tremendous secret about his past.

I figure I'm about halfway done with this give or take. It has become my primary focus for all my writing in the past 3-4 months.

Novel: E.V.E. 9
Genre: Sci-Fi Fantasy
Word count: 56,858
Current Status: On Hold. I came up with this idea back in High School oh so many years ago, and finally got around to writing it. First person narrative with emphasis on combat and special powers. Finally got to one of the first plot twists I had planned. Wrote it. And then shelved it.

I'll come back to it one day I'm sure, but I've got far too many ideas I feel would make better starting novels than this one.

6) Collection: Late Nights with Ezzie Dryar
Genre: Humour, A series of fictitious blogs
Current Word Count: 42,090 of 44,000
Status: A fake 500 word blog each day until I get tired of it. 78 of 80 chapters complete (maybe 81). Chapters 3-80 based on a "random" tarot card each day. Of course, they've become less random as I run out of cards. I don't know what each card is in advance ... until today, as I had to figure out what the last two cards were. (I misnumbered the chapters and couldn't believe that I had 4 cards left and four chapters ... turns out I only had two chapters left.)

Ezzie's life parallels a supernatural romance she is writing, until today. She just killed off the love interest yesterday. Uh, oh. Fallout. I'll probably write the last two chapters today.

Finished today at 43,010 words.

Finished (at last) the 4500 word short '...And A Tale In the Telling', with a little help from Mouse and have submitted it too so now it's just waiting.

Now editing the 1100 word 'Inception' - nothing to do with the movie of the same name. Probably another six weeks then.

Well done, PM! Fingers crossed.

I'm struggling with several half-written stories just now, and concentrating on Haven (the one I had bits of in critiques) which is about a third (I think) written at 3,000 words.

The others, just so I can come back next week and say I've finished them (hah!):

Slime -- 2,400. I'm having difficulty with the ending. Once I work that out, I think the rest will be easier.

The Book of Rules -- 4992. This time, the problem is with the beginning. I think the story starts before it ought to. Also, I was disconcerted to discover that my plot was essentially the same as The Hangover film (except The Book of Rules involves more tentacles and bureaucracy).

Zombie Planet -- 2,000. It wants to be a novel. I don't know how to stop it.

The Rowan Tree Scar -- 2,700. I think about the same again to write. I just haven't quite sorted out the end.

Novel: Unique title, need to trademark it first. :D
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Word-count: 41 thousand; feels like half way to the finish, but I'm writing from the ending backwards and from the beginning forwards, and still it remains fluid, interesting and surprising.
Status: I try to finish half a chapter each day.
