The chronicles word counter!

Never done this before, but after a few months of quiet desperation I have reached the first milestone at flaming last, so here goes:

Provisional title: Black as Night -- first of a supposed trilogy (*sound of hollow laughter*) called The Mapmaker's Daughter
Genre: Fantasy (no dragons)
Word count: 10,295
Status: for the characters -- walking through mountain tunnels in chapter 3 and likely to be there a good long while unless inspiration strikes; for me -- quietly despairing at the slow progress and the need for another 110,000 words.
I don't know if I'll continue updating on a frequent basis, but I'm so chuffed at getting to the second milestone I feel like shouting about it!

Provisional title: Black as Night
Genre: Fantasy (definitely no dragons)
Word count: 20,165
Status: for the characters -- the men still walking through mountain tunnels but nearing the end, Chais going for a ride in the bay as and when ideas and the practicalities of rowing boats manage to coincide; for me -- happier now the pace of writing has picked up, but still not sure where things are going.

so... a good milestone rather than a millstone? excellent. here's the cheerleaders: keep going! :D

In the last 10 days I've started editing a short story.

I have done a page.

That is all.

Time seems to have evaporated, so now I am jealous of everyone who is writing away!

(This is my first attempt at posting using the kindle!)

undermemory (tentative): 15,500 / est. 25,000
Middle of part three; the beginning of the climax/resolution that I hope to extend into part four -- another 5-6,000 words. Still interested in the story, writing everyday, but I already feel the next story pushing through. I take that as a sign to finish things up.
undermemory: 20,000 / est. 25,000 (long way from the initial 10,000!)
Ugh. Last part is proving to be brutal. Party because the scenes I'm writing are out of my comfort zone, and I'm pretty sure they're not "technically" correct. So, slow going -- at least, it feels that way. Trying to ward off ideas for my next story until this one's finished, but even that's proving difficult. Really feeling the urge to put the finish on this one and move on.

holy crackmuffins, i don't think i've ever written so much so quickly. at the moment i refuse to look back and find out how good/bad it is just in case i completely demoralise myself. from this point on i only have bullet-pointed plot coupons to sustain me, however, so it may start to drag and slip...

Update as of 27 August 2011

6) Collection: Late Nights with Ezzie Dryar
Genre: Humour, A series of fictitious blogs
Current Word Count: 15,158 of an awkward length of 60,000
Status: A fake 500 word blog each day until I get tired of it. It's just something to keep my mind off writer's block. Ezzie has decided to write a book and she is telling her readers what is in it. MY readers are pushing me to write it. I'm considering it.

mmm. i left them in my pocket and they went through the wash.... give me a chance to dry them out... here's some others, though...

* Cassia and Rais land in Hellea. Craw causes panic.
* Craw's unspecified deal with Cassia.
* Gathering up the Old Soldiers.
* Rais tries to get jiggy wi' it.

Hmm. Nope. Wondered about "Gathering up the Old Soldiers" for a moment, but think I'll have to pass on those. On the other hand, it's about time someone got jiggy with someone...

update: have now encountered neccessity for small talk. small talk! my characters don't do small talk! hmmm. this will need careful consideration.

Short Story: The Creature (Working Title)
Genre: Fantasy
Start Date: 29/8/11
Current Word Count: 1,179
Status: Just started writing this randomly today. Based on a simple idea and it's just so I can test my own skills with a number of themes and writing skills.

Novel - A moment in Darkness (working title)
Genre - Dark, psychological, personal sci-fi.
Current word count - 23,826
Status - Full steam ahead with this project. Am really enjoying it. Actually scared myslef whilst writing it last night. As for the projected word count. That has gone right out of the window. 20k in, and probably about a quater of the story told... the description needed to create the atmosphere was far more than expected, and my fingers had a whale of a time running away with it to boot... funny how that happens when your in writing mode.

Novel - A Moment in Darkness (working title, but leaning to it more and more.)
Genre - Dark, psychological, personal sci-fi
Currnet word count - 51882
Status - Going very well. I've been writing quite a lot this last few days or so, hitting 3k+ a day. I have a target of finishing a farly well detailed first draft of this by Sept 20th (give or take) I'm probably over the halfway mark, but im useless at projections... could be near that the last part of the story gets told in 20k, could be 50... will keep you posted.

Novel - The Firestarter (WIP)
Genrre - Fantasy
Current word count - 3668
Status - Work in progress, but very slowly. With work and school I don't get much time at all.

Novel - The Brady's
Genre - Horror
Current word count - 9,654
Status - Work in progress in conjunction with the other one. I only add to this one every so often as the material comes to me.

Short Story: The Creature (Working Title)
Genre: Fantasy
Start Date: 29/8/11
Current Word Count: 1,466
Characters: Just two at the moment, one of which is the titular character and the other a human child. I'll need to introduce my villain soon, that should be fun but I'll need to think up more for him.
Status: Not much improvement from last time but I'm just tweeking the beginning and rewriting some parts from last time. I'm also trying to think of a new title as well as some interesting ways to describe the area the characters find themselves in. I also have been making lots of notes about rules and ways to write as well as new characters I've got to enter into the story soon.

Hello, frequent un-flyer here, but I think this thread is a genius idea; I can find myself sidetracked so easily and escapism can also be lonely, so....

Short Story: From the Rafters
Genre: Fantasy/supernatural
Start Date: 29/10/10
Current Word Count: 7,913
Status: plot/direction is all planned but I lost heart when I found myself reading what I had done after a hiatus and discovered I was boring myself re the protagonist's relationship with her parents. Need to scalpel some ballast character exploration and get back onto the right track.

Short Story: Jack Frost and the London Effect
Genre: Supernatural/thriller
Start Date: 23/06/11
Current Word Count: 2,499
Status: Plot logistics causing concern, and I'm stuck in the middle ground. A and C are there but B is being willful in terms of getting on with it's neighbours :) I'm worried this will also give the reader a WTH? moment when the story switches direction so massively.

Starting to come together pretty well. Story is coming to me as I go and characters are developing as story progresses. A long way to go.

Now hit the next milestone - 36000 and rising. (this equates to 30% of planned target). nomming those bullet points.
