The chronicles word counter!

it's a project for the Sheffield SFF Writers group, scalem. i've got till October to finish it, but it seems to be telling itself so far...

just getting it all in one place....
Malessar's Curse
still an epic tragedy
27212 words
117 doublespaced A4 sheets

still working on chapter 2, though just about at the end of that. need to write faster.
malessar's curse
epic yada yada
27555 words
first three chapters all now complete!

"This Place Sucks"
Science Fiction (without much science)
Short story
1239 words (aiming for 5000)

my first shot at a short story since...um...1994? an odd amalgam of terraforming, HR issues, and bonsai.
"This place sucks"
scifi short story
1690 words

Second book in current series, 29,000 words now, just started chapter ten. Phew, 6,000 in a day.

Not much more done as my full time job has been busy. Still, managed to get to 37,000 words at the mo. Not bad for a couple of days work. Typing tonight also, typing pretty much every night lol. My laptop is the best thing i have ever bought!

It's not easy to write those sentences, Scalem. A 140+ word sentence takes longer to write than fourteen sentences of ten words.

Hard work, but coming together. No movement on Malessar's Curse for the time being.

Not done an update for a while but here goes

Novel: The Beautiful Child
Genre: Fantasy series 1st
Word count: 190,000
Status: 2nd Draft done. Now with various people for feedback

Novel: The Orphan of Darkness
Genre: Fantasy 2nd of Series
Word count: 25,000
Status: On hold till end of edit on 1st. Still the same

Novel: The Footstool of God
Genre: Fantasy
Word count: 3,000
Status: Just started and enjoying it. It is a stand alone piece 20 years before the events of the sereis and dealing with some of the same charcaters, but younger. Enjoying the challenge of keeping everything tight, and looking forward to getting to the big end, which is clear;y some way off with the series.

Keep writing everyone

Novel: Violet Strewn Fields
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 73,700
Status: Active. Did around 3,000 words today. Nearing the climax, but it seems a trend with my last two books that the climax lasts more than 50 pages, with 20 pages after it. And I have a lot planned for this book, after the climax. I'm not worried about how long it'll be, but my guess is around 120,000, same as it was 2 months ago in my last post.

It's the first in a new series. I should be done with it in about a month, If I start to write 5 pages per day again, like I was doing with my previous four books. First book took me a year, because it was my first, and I was completely new to it. Second book took me a mere two months, third one another two months, fourth around 2.5 months, and the fifth around 5 months, because it's much longer than the others.

So I expect this book to be done by August 15th. And then I'll start on the next in the series while doing a rewrite on my first book to beef it up. I've already started it, got the prologue done. :p

So here's the chart for that.

Novel: The Second Sword v2.0
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 4000
Status: Semi-Active. On hold till I finish Violet Strewn Fields. Might do a little here and there, but Violet is my main focus right now.

Novel: Aldivia
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 9,000
Status: Dormant. Writing this with a friend. Want to get into it again soon.

Novel: Five Hundred Sons
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 1,282
Status: Dormant. Want to get going on this as well!

Novel: Quest (terrible name for a novel I know, it's a codename more than anything)
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 16,070
Status: Dormant. All these stories have been dormant for months, left while I worked on my short stories for my writing course. But I want to work on them all again so I'm posting on here to inspire myself.

Name: World (another crappy codename)
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 6,288
Status: Dormant, but the least dormant of them all.

Been working on the first novel of my current series to improve it for agents and publishers to look at. Rewritten the prologue and added more to it so that it is now just over the 100,000 mark.

Second book is now at about 60,000.

I have written a chapter and done many notes for the third book.

Got some notes on the sequel to the trilogy.

Written a short story about a cop, (completely different genre but i thought i may as well have a go). It is 1,450 words.

Been busy mostly what with birthday and mum's wedding. Hoping to get more done soon.

So, been busy waiting for responses from publishers and agents, takes forever, simply forever.

While waiting, I have finished the second book in first draft and am currently writing the second draft in the knowledge I will be adding a lot much into it. I reckon it may be a lot longer than the first, but not too much to be too long. Perhaps 130,000.

Started the third book and written a prologue and first three chapters thus far. Seems to be getting a WW2 theme in some ways but it is keeping in with the main storyline, and there will be quite a few twists and a lot of surprises in this one. It is going to be both emotional and gritty.

The cop story at 1,450 words is now part of a series of short stories that I hope to have as a mini-project. It will be quite fun and dark, not your typical cop story, more of a thriller with about a hundred questions in just the first short story lol.

So busy, and I also have another fantasy series in the works (completely unrelated to the first), and it is done in first draft, second draft about 35,000 words.

Malessar's Curse
epic tragedy in 2 parts
41000 words
ongoing, but slow

This Place Sucks
completed short story
3600 words
submissions - 1

The Winter Road
short story in the MC world
1900 words
unfinished and currently on the back burner

untitled short story
set in the Moonbat/Zubi/chrispy shared universes
200 words (but more on paper)
just started, doing historical research

This got lost in the recent shuffle.

Hand of Glory re-write completed, word count dropped to about 100,000. Supernatural story. Submitted last week.

Candlelight first draft, assorted scenes, 10,000 words. Working on re-vamped outline. Fantasy. Stalled at present, just can't get a handle on what point to start this story at.

"The Sun's Got Lost" (working title) detailed outline being worked on. Just plain old fiction. Doing research, serious changes to first outline to get rid of what I feel are typical cliches.

The Taste of Salt (working title) Supernatural linked to Hand of Glory, same characters but not a carry on of story. Rough outline, needs a lot of work/research.

Pearls and Swine (working title) Supernatural linked to Hand of Glory, rough outline, again needs research/work.

Short Story "Death won't be cheated" Horror. 3500 words, submitted to Black Static three weeks ago.

Re-editing of an old epic fantasy novel, written some seven years ago. Need to sort out its sagging middle, and the rough text all the way through.

Also ploughing through old ideas seeing if any can be worked on more.

Novel: YA, no title
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 3,782
am stuck, and may have to drop last 500 words or so to rework it so I can go on

Short Story: YA, The Resolute Guardian
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count:1,638
slow going, but not at a standstill like some

Short Story: Flesh Market
Genre: Steampunk
Word Count: 111
recently been slashed back to beginning for rework - will most lkely end up as flash-fiction

Short Story: No title
Genre: Light/Comedic Horror
Word Count: 1,546
also stuck, but worth continuing as it tickles me

5 good starts, under 250 words each
15 more ideas, notes taken, first sentence written

My issue is finishing anything. I have finished only 7 short stories in the last 5 years, and they were all fairly simple. Does everyone work out the beginning, middle, and end before they start, or do they get a sentence in thier head that won't go away and take it from there?
