Black Static debuts at Fictionwise next week

To quote our E edition editor Pete Bullock ...
"Beginning with Fictionwise’s regular release of new titles on Monday, March 10, 2008 (Tuesday for those of you in Australia), readers will have the option of purchasing single issues or a one-year subscription. As we did with Interzone, Black Static eBooks will debut with three issues to encourage subscriptions. The release date has been chosen to coincide with the expected arrival of the print edition of Black Static 3 overseas. Future issues will appear alongside the arrival of the print edition.

I will be at Alt Fiction Derby selling Black Static 1, 2, 3 & 4 on 26 April. I’ll also have Interzone, Alison, Success… and some Crimewaves.

If you are going and want to reserve any issues please let me know as I’m trying to cut down on backache from hauling heavy loads of books and magazines. The idea is to take less, sell more and leave with a lot less.

Received my BS4 today and I've just finished 'This Much I Remember' having read 'Atwater', 'Zombie', and 'Salt' earlier this evening.

'This much...' is an absolute triumph. I'm not 100% sure why it's in BS but I'm so glad it is. It blew me away, I've still got goosebumps- there perhaps I've answered myself! The story gripped me, upset me, crushed me, grabbed my heart and wrapped it in knots. Fabulous and totally not what I was expecting to find inside the covers of my beloved Black Static. I applaud you Mr Fishler!

I enjoyed 'Zombie' too although it was too short and I recognised far too much of myself in it.

'Atwater' was a tour de force that I enjoyed immensely right up until the reveal. I have to admit I was a bit miffed at the author for resorting to this much used and abused vehicle, especially with what had gone before. Had the ending been a little more original and (to me at least) less predictable, it would have been my favourite story of the last twelve months. Even so it was a cracking read that was so vivid I felt I was watching a special effects laiden movie. Wow!

For any of you who work/live in the centre of Manchester (UK)

Black Static at the Central Library (St Peter’s Square) in the 2nd floor Reception Room on Wednesday 11 June 1-2pm.

I'll be selling Interzone and Black Static plus a few books in the room before and after the event and will try to be set up there by 12:30. Entry is free but the books and magazines aren’t, though prices tend to be less than cover.

This is a very rare chance to buy Black Static direct.
There's also an SF reading from Tony Ballantyne

Have you set up a facebook group? That and a Bebo site might help a little.

If you set up either just feel free to add me as a friend other magazines have done this as in deathray and SFX.

Delivery to TTA towers is due Wednesday 11th. So check your subscriptions, you're unlikely to find it in the shops.

This, fifth, issue of Black Static has a thread of H P Lovecraft in its veins. Last year was the 70th anniversary of Lovecraft's death (15/3/1937) so we have Christopher M. Cevasco's Lovecraftian tale of HPL on his deathbed in "Less A Dream Than This We Know" and Peter Tennant's review of "The Necronomicon; The Best Weird Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft".

Look out for 'Slap' from Gary McMahon, whose novel 'Rain Dogs', Humdrumming Books, is also reviewed by Pete Tennant.

Bram Stoker Award winner Jack Ketchum is celebrated for his horror fiction and thillers in the US, perhaps less so in the UK. He is interviewed by Pete Tennant.
