Book Covers

Maybe we should start a Fantasy Art thread? There a common set of artists in amongst the books mentioned. AE35 noted Chris Foss. There's Jim Burns, Chris Achilios, Boris Vajelo. Album covers are also a rich source of Fantasy. Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews spring to mind.

So many Sci-Fi artists. Including our own Chronicles members

This one caught my eye at the bookstore...

The Star Kings.jpgHere's the cover to my personal copy of Edmond Hamilton's space opera classic, the first sf novel I ever read. A Jack Gaughan masterpiece. No small effort on my part getting it here. Any way I can make future images a little larger?

It's not too small, dask - the forum software saves some pictures as a thumbnail (depending on how they're posted), and if you click on it, it's a reasonable size.

This cover struck me when I first found it, perusing through some second hand books:

Because the picture is not too clear as to the words in the yellow caption, it reads "presents Adolf Hitler's Hugo-Award winning SF Classic!"

How could you not want to read such a book?

Quite a controversial cover:

Washington.jpg

The book is about a US Army unit which returns from Vietnam and carries out a guerilla war against the US Government, laying waste to New York and Washington. Like all Van Greenaway's work it's not classifiable as SF or alternative history - it just is what it is.

Rojse and Blacknorth, How do get your images noticeably bigger than thumbnail size? Clicking mine only makes it slightly larger. Same with a few others I posted in other threads, except for The Star Kings in #66 just a few posts above. When I click that it's the perfect size. I'd dearly love to make mine at least as big as Rojse's, a little bigger if possible. Both your covers are pretty good by the way. Who are the artists?

I opened a free account at Photobucket and upload photo's there - then I just put the link code here,or where-ever it is I'm posting. You can choose full-size or a clickable thumbnail.

Colin Hay is the illustrator. I wonder if he also did the cover of The Medusa Touch, I'll have to check - that's even more outrageous and shows an aircraft crashing into a skyscraper. Remarkable since it was published in 1973.

Yes, I too have an account at Photobucket. Link code; is that the URL? I typed that in and nothing happened. Haven't learned to copy and paste yet. I'll snoop around and try to find the full-size or clickable thumbnail option. If I can't may I ask you where it's located?

After you've uploaded your pic to photobucket it should say "share" above it - you click that and a window opens. At the top of the window there should be an option for "get link code" - you click that and it will give you various urls - one for full size, one for clickable thumb etc. Just copy whichever you require and paste it into your post here. You don't need to add any tags, it's all automatic. :)

Thank you, Blacknorth. I appreciate the help. I'd never have been able to figure that out in a hundred centuries. I tried it out and previewed it and it works. At least the full-size does. Don't like the clickable thumbnail as it takes you to my photobucket page for the image. The full-size looks great but takes awhile to fully appear. Do you know if there's a way to make it not quite so big, so the full cover can appear on the screen without having to scroll down to see the whole thing? Wasn't going to show it again but what the heck, here it is in all Ken Kelly's glory:

I don't know who drew the cover for Adolf Hitler's famous SF novel - can't find the information in the front.

As it was said before, if you want large pictures, you should use Photobucket, which stores the picture for you.

If you don't mind not having that picture stored long-term, you can just find the web-page of the image you want (should only contain the picture), click the landscape icon on the advanced post area, and copy and paste the link to that picture. However, if the page with the picture on it is edited or removed, that picture will not appear in your post.

You'd probably have to resize the photo before uploading it to Photobucket - I use a freeware program called Irfanview - just install it, open the photo, go to view, then to resize/resample and you can pick the size. Most times I just click half-size or tick the box at 640 X 480. :)

Blacknorth, Rojse: Very many thanks for your suggestions. I will work with them and see what I can come up with. Hopefully these, along with the night class I'm enrolled in later month dealing with digital scanning, will help me get this all straight. Cool cover, Blacknorth.

Fried Egg: Great cover. I'll try to locate my Ace edition of THE BLACK CORRIDOR and post it for comparison.
