Merlin: BBC 1 - Saturday Nights

Just saw the repeat (except the very beginning). Very good episode I thought.

hmm you know I really think as these go on that they do get better in quality. I actually felt a sense of suspece with last nights episode - though I was expecting Urther to keep hold of the sword and then for there to be troubles - however there is still time for that since no lady took the sword (and by title we are lead to think that this is "the" sword - if not then a good contendor against it in power.

Yes - honestly until the end of that episode I was really thinking that they were building to a father Vs son concept in the long run. They still could - Uther is very set in his ways and also very scared = though I think he is not as set in stone as he would like to think - he allowed Morganna to be spared and pardoned very quickly.

However should Arthur suddenly take up the banner of magic's side then I think Uther could consider him "lost" (and considering the nature of Arthur's birth it would not take much to convince Arthur that his son is more lost to him than just through the words of magic - to be lost through to the core)
A war or a battle between the two could happen - though I don't think we will see such for a long time - at least another series worth

I think that it might depend on how Uther is shown the magic as to how he will react. The way he reacted to Merlins having got Arthur the 'better' sword make me think he may accept the magic should it be used to protect his son or even him. its all pie in the sky anyhow, we will have to wait and see. and i sit in anticipation.:)

Missed the last one, and the repeat. Bit irked.

I liked it too. However, slightly puzzled that they didn't ask if they could pour out the goblets' contents and fill it with seawater instead :p

How bloody difficult it is to kill a king that everyone hates? I mean that has Uther made a single choice since the beginning that the audience believes to right. I don't think so, because we all know how different king Arthur is going to be, even if he's pushed on the throne suddenly. I think that would spice up the story quite a bit. But maybe it is just me who sees the show a bit too boring for the younger audience, or then maybe I am a bit too old for this series.

Another thing is with the dragon, even though it's well animated, why is it that it has to fly off every single time after he has spoken his words. In this episode, if he would go back to sleep, it would have been as dramatic as flying off to sulk on the ledge.

Next episode is the last one.

Now I've not been following this thread so I must apologise if this post is against the trend.

However, does anyone think this is a good series. Do all the scenes with Uther have to have him drinking out of the side of his mouth in an alcoholic binge.

I agree about the dragon and whats so special about the chain. I could gnaw through that with my teeth never mind a dragons and when do you think they will get the mouth sync right. Not to mention everybody and his dog having free access to the tunnel.

And where is Excalibur. I mean it's going to seem rather strange if everybody starts thinking that author isn't the next in line to the thrown and make him prove it by pulling it from the stone.

In most versions of the Arthurian legend Excalibur is not the Sword in the Stone, it's a different sword. Arthur usually gets the sword from the Lady of the Lake later on. Therefore Merlin is actually consistent with Arthurian legend on this point, although it's about the only thing it is consistent about ;)

TEiN, The sword is at the bottom of the lake. the Dragon fired the sword and told Merlin that Arthur is the only one who should use it, but Uther got his hands on it, so the dragon said it must be put where no mortal man can get his hands on it, Merlin took it and through it into the lake.:) (it was Tom the blacksmith that made the sword)

Thought this weeks was not as good as the last couple of Ep's. Although we lurned more of morganas reason for dislikeing Uther.

Sloweye.

Yes but the problem is how does it get into the stone and in this rendition of the tale why would Arthor need to pull it from the stone to prove who he was.

Unless the big fish that chases them in the lake swallows the sword and some how gets fossilised. In which case it need to get on with and be quick about it or the plot will loose all credibility for me.

A few thing are differant in this version of the tale:) so we all wait with baited breath. most tales of the legend differ like that, i mean, in the Clive Owen film virsion he was a Roman and the woads just called his sword Excaliber, no magic involved in the sword there.

very much looking forward to next weeks, looks like things maybe about to get interesting for the young Merlin.

Last week, last episode and MAYBE it will get interesting. I doubt it. All what I'm seeing is another "sorcerer" threatening the kingdom.

Apparently it is going to follow some traditional lines (though I was really annoyed that Mordred turned out to be some random kid). This is from Katie McGrath (Morgana) talking to the Irish Tribune:

"Morgana has this amazing story arc to get through," she says. "That's the great thing about this show – everybody knows where the characters end up; Arthur becomes king, Guinevere becomes queen, Merlin becomes very powerful and my character becomes this evil sorceress. She's the ticking time bomb of the show. We've all got an end point, but in a way the writers can do almost anything to get there. And my character gets better and better as time goes on."
If she's right about this (I'm not positive she is, 'cause she probably hasn't seen any further scripts) then how the hell does Guinevere manage to end up Queen?
