The first page of Lovecraft's original manuscript is reproduced at

L. W. Currey, Inc.: "UNDER THE PYRAMIDS" [novelette]. AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT SIGNED (AMsS). 34 pages, handwritten on the rectos of 34 sheets of white 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper with typed and handwritten business and personal letters on the rectos. Undated,

(I have no idea whether that came through clearly -- go to L. W. Currey - Leading Specialist in Popular and Sensation Fiction and search for "Under the Pyramids"). This confirms some of the readings and eliminates the asterisks.

You seem to be thorough Sir, I'm impressed....:D

A question if I may...Will/do you submit these errors/issues to publisher(s) or just keep notes in general for your own reference purposes?

thank you very much! :)

I am in touch with both S. T. Joshi and Stefan Dziemianowicz -- the editor at Barnes & Noble responsible for their Essential Writers series -- and I've been told that there is an excellent chance for a second printing (the Lovecraft volume being one of their greatest hits of late) and that my corrections will be included.
I just hope that they won't reprint the volume right away, because so far I've done only about 1/4 of the book!

Well it's good that people like yourself help to keep these publishing houses honest.

Must be nice having contact with a scholar like Joshi..:)

Thank you so much for providing these errata, Ningauble. You're doing a wonderfully thorough job!

I have to say I was fairly shocked by the number of errors in the B&N text, and I've hesitated to recommend it to neophyte Lovecraftians for that reason. It's good to hear there will be a corrected second edition.

I must say I'm amazed at how many errors have sliped thorugh from a so-called professional publishing house. I'm a technical writer/editor/documentor in I.T. and I would have got the sack if my work was this riddled with erorrs LOL!

Well, many of these errors aren't new to this edition, but rather examples of encrustation -- an error appears in one edition, and gets carried over into the next because the next is proofed against the first. Some of these little b*ggers I first noticed in The Annotated Lovecraft waaaaaay back.

Then again, proofing is at an all-time low as publishers try to cut corners. I've read a couple of articles to that effect here in Sweden.

Well that's sad to hear I must say although not surprising, we have similar albeit somewhat rarer issues in my profession. Still, I for one appreciate the effort you're putting in.

Have a nice New Year...:)
