New GRRM Update on ADWD

Excellent. Voyager - the books' UK publisher - have said (in response to my query) that they will push for a 2010 release if GRRM hands in the book in the near future. However, they have been saying 2011 as a 'safe date' to give them some breathing room rather than raising expectations for 2010 like I have just done.

Fixed :D

What?!

* Sends a quick note to the stonemasons to tell them to stop what they're doing. *

;):)

Ursa, you migtht want to send a note to the salt miners to speed up production.

I'm thinking (maybe hoping) it's gonna be a christmas release now, with Martin *IMMINENTLY* close to finishing it. :D

If it is though, the publisher ought to the ship them gift-wrapped!

Having read that the TV series will be out in Spring 2011, I can't help but wonder if the new book may not be out till then, so that they can cash in on the publicity the TV show will undoubtedly generate. Though that would mean they miss out on the Xmas sales. (I know GRRM may not care about such things, but I'm sure his publishers do).

Talking of the end of the year, I came across some pics for the 2011 calendar on Ted Nasmith's web site (tednasmith.com). I presume all the diehards here have seen these already, but I was pretty impressed. That bridge on the Pike image looks pretty dam scary!

Must confess, I'm not much taken with the iron-born; they don't seem to be a particularly sympathetic bunch with the exception of Asha, who seems to have her head screwed on properly. Must be because she's a woman ;)

They can wrap it in whatever they like. I only ask that Roy is the reader for the audio version.

Course not, then you'd be a salt wife... and you'd not have access to the internet.

Tempting.... Must resist... Unnggghh!

If I did not say it before, uuhhhh, Welcome, Mesanna!

<Boaz wanders off for a bourbon.>

I know it's only 3:20, but it's five o'clock somewhere...

Oh, and before I pour that drink I need to point out that my original pick, in The official ADWD "Pick the Announcement Date" thread, of August 6th looks like a winner!

If you visit Not A Blog, don't get too excited when you see a post entitled, The Long Wait Is Over!!! (Yes, GRRM did place three exclamation marks in the title.)

The announcement is about the "sixth and final issue of" the Wild Cards miniseries, The Hard Call.

As I'm feeling a little optimistic this morning - goodness knows why, what with the wind and rain - I actually saw it as a sign that he's on (or in sight of) the finishing straight.

(Then again, he may be indulging in something akin to gallows humour. I'd rather not dwell on that possibility.)

George Martin is an evil, evil man.

To be honest, I don't mind the wait (that much) gives me plenty of time to read other great stuff. I have a good feeling that this book will be awesome and totally worth the wait.

Lets hear it for GRRM!!

He's struggling with the Epilogue - he says he doesn't write these last but it's got to be a sign he's getting there?

I've all of Erikson's Malazan Chronicles to read and then the rest of Clavell's Asia series following Shogun - so as long as it's finished once I've had time to get through these :)

Who's Pat?

Falling way behind here on LiveJournal, I know. I've got lots more parts and actors to talk about, the RTS game to announce, the Eenie Awards....

Snowing heavily in Santa Fe, however, and I've been on a bit of a roll. I'll get to all that other stuff when I can. Kong comes first.

Pat's just died. A quick death, but a messy one. Ugly, painful, humiliating. But hey, he earned it.

Off I go to shovel Snow.

Who's Pat?

A comment by hippoiathanatoi (Jul. 21st 06:52 pm (UTC) to that post suggests that:
Pat would be a character named for Patrick St-Denis, maintainer of the Fantasy Hotlist SF/F review site. He and George have had a wager running several years on the relative fortunes of the Giants and the Cowboys, which Pat (finally) won last season, earning him the distinction of having a character named after him (and killed in some horrible manner).

Well, i am glad to, at long last, hear more about him working on asoiaf.
While i don't mind waiting, i can totally undestand some frustration of fans who only care about asoiaf and not grrm other works. I mean when all you're waiting for is news on dance, and you keep reading about grrm working on other things you can't help but think: Please stop working on other things.
