New GRRM Update on ADWD

Actually I have been mostly lurking, so there haven't been too many words.

GRRM posted this today...

Just kicked Aeron Damphair's scraggly arse out of DANCE WITH DRAGONS. He only had the only chapter, and it will work better early in the next book than late in this one. (That's how it looks to me today, anyway. I reserve the right to change my mind).

So DANCE has gotten a smidge shorter. But is still not done.

The good news is that I seem to have written more than a hundred pages of THE WINDS OF WINTER already.

@Weasel made me lol.
Freeeeddddy where art thou?
Behind the cupboard? Anyone knows?

Thanks for posting that Boaz. I had just cut it out of GRRM's blog and you beat me to the punch.

I wonder if those 100 pages are the chapters he has moved from ADWD, or new material? It sounds as if it's moved stuff, or maybe a combination of both.

As for the drowned crumudgeon, hopefully that one chapter will be his last chapter. He is one of my least favorite characters.

Aha, no one likes Aeron Damphair, but he thinks of himself as a major player. I think GRRM wants to contrast him with Davos. Both claim to be simple men. Both claim to be honest. Both are involved with the Sea. Both are involved in the Game of Thrones.

Both lost at sea and restored...both devoted to their god....both on islands on mirror image sides of westeros...make living at sea...

Do we know of characters in asoiaf that resemble the Flinstone duo?

By a clever process of deduction, I reckon Fred and Barney must be Jon and Tyrion. (Firing on all cylinders this morning!)
:p

Pure cleverness, you're smarter than me... To me, Fred is Robert Baratheon and Barney is Walder Frey.

A new POV!

At least, I assume there's a new** POV, based on the following:
I actually had a very good day today, writing about a character who wasn't originally supposed to be a POV, but has turned out to be sharpest sword I've got for slicing through the Meereenese knot. I'd feel very good about that, except somehow it has become AUGUST.

From Not A Blog - August.

** - In the sense that we haven't heard of this character's rôle as a POV before. * Waits to be put right on this. *

I wouldn't mind having Barristan as a POV actually, i've grown fond of the old man.
(If we were to make guesses...)

Barristan would be a great POV! I'm presuming this new POV will be someone with Dany? (given his mention of "The Knot")

Barney was always too nice to be Walder Frey. Plus, Barney was ever the sidekick.

On to bigger and better things, a slicing of the Meereenese knot is good news indeed. What's another POV in a cast of so many?

Barney is short, Barney has a wife who's way too good looking for him, and Barney chuckles a lot... so does Walder.

On the other hand if Varys and Tyrion should find their way somehow to Illyrio and from him to Dany (there's no reason for Dany to like a Lannister of course but i'm just letting my ideas flow right now), then maybe Varys or Illyrio as a POV might help to solve the knot?

Although right now i'm already hoping it's going to be Barristan.

I'd be very surprised if Varys would be a POV in the fifth book of seven. He knows too much and getting access to his thoughts and knowledge would remove a great deal of GRRM's room for (tricksy) maneouvre. I'm guessing that the same is true for Illyrio.

What GRRM needs is a POV who's there to see what GRRM wants to show us without letting any cats out of the bag ahead of schedule. BFS could play this rôle, but whether he will or not is too early to say.

The same could be said for Littlefinger and Melisande - but isn't she going to have a POV? GRRM needs to start revealing more and more at this point, so why not one of the key players? Granted, it may be a touch too early, but the plot seems to be bigger than any one character. At least, as far as we know.

BFS (as he seems to be known hereabouts :)) would be great though.
