New GRRM Update on ADWD

Good news...........

"And on other fronts... it's still snowing on Skull Island, but one of the krakens is done and t'other is down to the last tentacle. Closer and closer... inch by inch, word by word, step by step..."
But are the "Krakens" Kong, or does he need to fight through them for the final showdown with the great ape.

Did the Meeraneese knot ever get "cut"?

Didn't I once read somewhere he had 2 chapters to go? If so then I'd day the Krakens are the two chapters in which case it sounds like he's nearly there.....

The last I remember reading was 5 chapters to go. I think that was sometime back in November. If 2 is a confirmed number then yes, he's almost there. I guess he'd be almost there anyway.

Warning! Semi-veiled spoilers!!!!

Mesanna, I dunno if GRRM said he was planning on mass murder of his characters. All I know is that so far in ASOIAF, when Martin writes his characters into untenable positions, he pulls the trigger. I trust he'll continue this plan of action. And so I'll try and be prepared for events like "The Defenestration", "The Confession", "The Nuptials", "The Moon Door", and "The Hangings".

I'm still wondering why he his writing a book that has already been written and put into films and screenplays a half-dozen times. Kong? Again?

Damn that GRRM and his side projects. He needs to work on ADWD.

Wait. Skull Island. kong. ADWD has been a giant MONKEY on GRRM's back.

Do you think I'm onto something?

Nah, can't be :D

Cheers Boaz! Between half-remembered interviews with the man himself, mixed with lots of theorizing from the fans, it's hard sometimes to recall fiction from fact. I had a vague memory of him saying there were too many characters and there would be some "cuts" in the future. I wasn't expecting "The Nuptials Part 2" exactly, I more assumed there would be a bunch of battles and perhaps a random knifing to trim away the fat. Or maybe I just dreamt the whole thing.

Time will tell, time will tell ...

Yeah, mathmatically it has to be 2 chapters to go, the Greyjoy one and the wolf one. Other things could have changed, but assuming they haven't, then the light at the end of the tunnel could be approaching with some speed :)

Just hope it isn't the light of an oncoming train and an imminent head-on collision of apocalyptic proportions

The good news - George finishes the only remaining chapter.

The bad news - the changes made in that chapter affect every other chapter in the book, forcing massive rewrites....

Funny, I moderated a forum for many years that eventually folded from inactivity due to the machinations of some guy named Zuckerberg.

The core of us all became friends on FB and the forum's activity slowly dwindled. We did however form a group on FB.

In the many years on said forum I spread the good word about Martin and ASoIaF, and got at least five people to read it.

One of the former forum members posted in our group today that the internet must be getting smaller. When he searched for ADWD update on Google it took him to a thread that had Wiggum posts in it.

So, on the bright side, this 48 page thread is generating traffic for the site.

On the bad side, this 48 page thread is still generating traffic for this site.

It was generating traffic for the site five six years ago when I did a google search for people talking about these awesome books I had just read. I stalked for a couple months and finally had to join to insert my own opinions, such as they were.

This made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. :D :(

GRRM has confirmed that it's a toss-up if ASoS or ADWD is the longest book in the series. That confirms that ADWD is in the 1,530-manuscript page ballpark of ASoS (not counting the 100+ MS pages more moved into TWoW).

Which means, if it is correct that there's one more chapter to complete, that the chances of ADWD being split in half in hardcover have almost completely disappeared. That may explain GRRM's recent return to saying that the series will be seven books in length after briefly saying 'seven or eight' last year.

Then this MUST mean that the Knot has been cut. Good news indeed.

Ah, whatever. I'm ambivalent now. At least until ADWD is published and in my hands.

Temporarily ambivalent. I hope.

Clanny, Clanny, Clanny. Come on now. Buck up, little buckeroo. Just think, once GRRM is done with ADWD he'll have time to to ink that deal with The Creative Assembly to do Dothraki: Total War! Or at least the modders will have more info at their disposal to make the current mod even better.

And FYI, GRRM's Update Page for ADWD is currently down. His whole site seems to be down. Since I'm a Luddite, let me be clearer... I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display this Webpage" when I try to access his main page or his update page. Is there any reason he'd need to redo his site for the big announcement? Or did he already announce and his site crashed due to the flood of hits from fanboys worldwide?

On a side note, this Pinnacle Vodka and Cranberry really tastes good this afternoon.

Not A Blog and the Official GRRM Site are two different entities. I just clicked on his official site and it's back up... without an update on ADWD. But it does appear that he will be in Poland in June.

Speaking of Poland, this vodka I'm drinking today is very nice. I'll be throwing some kabobs on the grill in a bit.

And to conclude, Ursa what are you doing posting without a pun or clever joke? I depend upon you for a significant dose of my daily merriment... vodka and bourbon do the rest.

Hey, don't mess with me... I just watched Errol Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood... I'm feeling feisty.
