New GRRM Update on ADWD

Areo Hotah is in the House Martell appendix of AGoT, nine years before he appeared in an actual novel :)

For the count, the prologue and epilogue are not part of the 16. So there's one new POV character whose identity remains unknown.
I vote for some unknown creepy guy that Marwin drinks with!

Great ADWD update on GRRM's blog.

Some of the info is spoilerish, so I'll leave it to everyone to read as they see fit. The juicy stuff is in the second half of his post.

I'm really chomping at the bit waiting to read this book.

So I still don't get it...Is it going to be, physically speaking, one book? Or one book in two volumes like SOS was (as they're pretty much the same length as i understand)?

And I suppose the Osha POV is right then...Although I'm pretty curious about the "new character" that we don't know yet. I suppose it's one of the guys who's supposed to help solve the knot...But who?

Could it be some old Valyrian wizard? An old dragonmaster? Some creepy guy from the citadel who rides with Marwin? Who could it be...

Needless to say, can't wait for July!

It will be one book, at least in the US.

I think he's saying it will be someone whom we haven't met yet, but that could mean someone we already know of.

Where did you get an Osha POV? There are four new POVS from:
Quentyn
Melissandre
Barristan
A "new" character. Osha does not qualify.

I believe it will be one book as ASoS was in hardback.

It's only when it comes to publishing the paperback that they might not be able to fit it in one as ASoS and may need to split again.

Yea my bad I was tired and I read "Rickon" instead of Bran in GRRM's blog (hence I thought it would be Osha) :D

In the USA, one volume in hardcover and paperback.

In the UK, one volume in hardcover and two volumes in paperback. For ADWD, it'll be cheaper to get the hardcover from Waterstones (£12.50 if you pre-order, plus a copy of Mark Lawrence's excellent debut novel Prince of Thorns) than the two paperbacks (£16.00 or thereabouts) a year later.

So far I've got the previous books all in paperback (only versions here in eastern Europe, only the translated versions come hardcover) so I think I'm going for the UK paperback again, don't want to ruin the symmetry on my bookshelf :D

Thanks for the info though!

POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILERS!!

I couldn't stand it any longer, read 2 sneak peek chapters! Theon IS one of the new POV's, what's left of him anyway!!:D

We must be distant cousins. That sound like something I would do :D

I also have all the paperbacks, but will buy this one in hardcover when it comes out, and then will probably buy the paperback when it comes out as well to match my collection. I couldn't wait for the paperback. :)

Me too! I just couldnt wait a year or so for paperback which I normally do.

I have all the previous in paperback and I know it's going to destroy the symmetry on the bookshelf by buying the hardback, but I've waited for such a long time that I don't have the patience to wait for the paperback!

Do we know when the paperback/paperbacks is/are out in the various markets?

(Not that I'll be able to wait for it/them.)

Does anyone know why, apart from being a tease**, GRRM would caption a painted model of Bronn with the words:
And here's Bronn, son of no one in particular, again by Jen Haley.
He doesn't mention parentage when captioning the other models (Varys, Benjen Stark, Robert Baratheon and Tywin).

** - And because he has no casting news with which to tease us with.

Just a note for those of you who don't paint little metal soldiers and push them around on table tops, Jen Haley is the BFS of miniatures painters while Marike Reimer (the other painter credited with Ben Stark) could only be compared to Arthur Dayne.

GRRM updated his Not A Blog today... Here are the bits I found interesting...

"...writing the first draft of my script for episode nine of season two of the HBO series GAME OF THRONES, "Blackwater," and damn, but this one is a bitch of an adaptation, the original author made the damn battle way too big and too expensive..."

"And behind all that, of course, lurks Son of Kong: the WINDS OF WINTER."

"Why am I writing this damned post??? I need to get to WORK!"

The man is already stressed. I hope he takes his honeymoon this summer.
