May's Meanderings in Fabulous Fiction...

Halfway through Ralph 124C 41+. I had read it years ago, and apparently forgotten that the first two hundred pages or so are lead up to the story.

I want to find the copy of the electronics magazine that featured this story(Practical Wireless?)
Never realised it was such a long story!

Finished Red Seas Under Red Skies (which ironically took a dunk of its own into some water and the already large book is now even bigger and crinkled). Now decided to read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Four Parts for a while. Don't really have time to invest my attention in something new at the moment, so it's mostly re-reading for me.

I finished The Hero Of Ages by Sanderson and have moved on to Fool Moon by Butcher.

Hero of Ages ended the Mistborn series on a odd foot but it was a very enjoyable series.

I am a newcomer to Butcher and the one thing I like is I can read his books in a few sittings. Nothing too deep just a good quick story.

Modern Electronics; and it was a twelve-part serial... which means you'd not only have a long search ahead, but probably be putting out one heck of a lot of money for this thing.....

Ah now thats something I wasn't aware of! So its a case of finding an anthology with it in. Another early story I'd like to find is Karel Capek's R.U.R
Funny thing is my dad would have had those electronics magazine years back as it was his hobby

Milady! Just in the midst of OotP, and will move to the HBP as soon as possible. Slow going when reading aloud (am reading to the kids at night, though in OotP, it is considerably darker than the previous novels. A lot of teen angst too.

For myself, a re-read of Warhost of Vastmark, and a foray into a new author, K.V. Johansen.

This last is the reason a fair number of people kick themselves later in life....

I don't know as it is included in any anthologies, but it has had multiple printings... some abridged, I would imagine, others not. I believe there is a full-text edition available at the moment, but I can't recall who the publisher is....

As for R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)... that one is actually fairly easy to get hold of. There's the internet:

R.U.R., by Karel Capek

And then there are various editions of the book. (It isn't a story, by the way; it's a play. It was also made into a film many, many years ago....)

One is The Arbor House Treasury of Science Fiction Masterpieces:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Arbor+House+Treasury+of+Science+Fiction+Masterpieces&x=11&y=28

while Dover books (here in the U.S.) has a "thrift edition" which goes for (iirc) $2-3; but there are others....

Now I just have to mention that the author's name is not Capek but Čapek- read in english as Chapek .

I just prefer to know the real names of my authors .

Currently:

Cryptnomomicon
- Stephenson
The Coming of the Third Reich - Evans

Am going to start on HARM by Brian Aldiss. Interestingly he had trouble placing this book, probably due to the controversial subject matter, and it got published by Duckworth books, and is their only SF novel!

No, Čapek was a Czech. You might also try some of his other work, if you haven't already....

And I'm about two-thirds of the way through that second volume of Skinner's collection -- you know, there's a lot of good material here for anyone interested in writing stories based on genuine folklore and "popular" myth....

In between moving and other things going on IRL, I've now finished Fevre Dream. I can't recall who it was that recommended it to me, but it was a good call. I really enjoyed it, but sometimes, I stopped because part of me didn't want to "look" at what happened next, while another part was eager to. I guess you can say it creeped me out a bit, but in a good way.

What next? Tough choice, as I have so many good books to pick from. Maybe I'll end up rolling some d20s to decide if it becomes completely impossible to pick between the likes of American Gods, The Lathe of Heaven, UBIK and Jem to name but a few.

I'll have to decide before going to bed, because I don't like leaving without having a book with me; it just feels wrong, and I don't have the brains to pick one in the morning. I'm not a morning person.

I'd recommend Ubik or The Lathe of Heaven. :) Good luck with whatever you decide.

I just read Edwin Muir's The Structure of the Novel. Not sure what I think of it just yet, but I think I prefer his translations of Kafka. ;)

Hope they're enjoying it Clansman!

I just finished Half Blood Prince last night, and am now onto Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Seen the trailers for HBP ! The book is possibly my favourite one and the film looks set to be good !!

@Nikkita Love the D20 reference :D When i can't decide something i often turn to my dice for guidence ! lol That said they still get actual use every few weeks or so.

Just finished the 1st book of the Black COmpany trilogy- Quite a different way of writing but enjoyable all the same.
