The official ADWD "Pick the Announcement Date" thread

Since I was wrong regarding yesterday's guess, I was going to pick today.... but I just noticed The Imp remark in another thread regarding GRRM's Not A Blog.

Looks like I will be coming out to LA in early January, to talk about the HBO show at the TCA.

That one is for television critics only, I'm afraid... but I'm looking to set up a couple of public events while I am in town. Watch this space. We will probably do a signing, most likely somewhere in the San Fernando Valley. And our friend Lodengarl, founder and prince of the Brotherhood Without Banners, is going to come down from the Bay Area to organize a BWB event the same day. Details when we have 'em... but angelenos, mark down January 9 on your calendars.

(Might have an exciting announcement that day as well. Maybe two. But don't quote me on that).

January 9th will be a Sunday, I live in the Valley so I will watch for this.
New releases of books and music normally get realeased on Tuesdays.

Anyone live in the Valley from this forum?

The RELEASE may be on a Tuesday, the announcement of completion may come at 3 AM on a Saturday, or 9PM on a Thursday, etc.
 
Forgive me good Sers, i was basing my thought on Martin writing that he was doing a book signing (didnt he?) on the 9th and maybe we were hoping it would have been ADWD.

Maybe anyone who attends should chant "release the hounds!"

A wonderful thought but completely impossible. The estimated turnaround time from when he says he's done to publication is 3 months. He HAS handed in a lot of the book already, and much of it could be typeset and ready to go, but trust me, the skies will open, the angels will sing and trumpets will blare on the day that he announces he's done with ADWD. You'll know it well before the book is published.

Why red apples? Red apples I associate with late August (Lobos) to early November (Northern Spyes), depending on the variety.

I like apples. A lot.
 
Nightstalker is obviously a Fossoway. How do you like them apples?
 
I don't know. The apples coming in now are Russets (not red at all, but mighty tasty, if you can handle the skin). They like the cold, for some reason.

Never heard of Fossoways. Are they a family from the Hamptons? or Boston? The name has a sort of debutante ring about it.

Now, could we get any further off-thread, or what?
 
But is NightStalker linked to Cider Hall or has he been dunking in the New Barrel?

Clanny, House Fossoway are sworn bannermen to House Tyrell. They figure prominently in the first Dunk'n Egg tale, The Hedge Knight. In that story, we learn of the division of House Fossoway into two branches. The senior house holds Cider Hall and their heraldry shows a red apple on a gold field... hence, Ursa's suggestion that Nightstalker is associated with them. The junior branch of House Fossoway displays a green apple on gold and they come from New Barrel. The reason for the different colors of apples between the branches of House Fossoway is explained humorously by GRRM... and I don't want to give it away here.
