HBO officially commissions Season 1 of GAME OF THRONES

Pretty cool fan posters here. Apologies if these have already been displayed here.

As with everything else in the production, these are looking good (even if they are only fan posters). The only two - very minor - complaints that occur to me is that Sean Bean should look a little leaner for the part of Ned, though the poster could be misleading. Also, Tyrion isn't nearly ugly enough, though I'm sure the actor will be fine for the part. Lena Headey's smirk seems perfect for Cersei.

Game of Thrones will air in Spring 2011 alongside the second season of Treme, according to HBO.

HBO also downplayed recent speculation of major reshoots brought about by recasting, stating that the resulting reshoots would be 'nothing major'.

Normally, I'd make a snide remark regarding fan art... but I think I'm now in lust with Cersei... the b!$@#...

(messing your hair, as Jon does to Arya) ;) Sorry, I couldn't resist :)

First time viewers may miss the dialog staring at Cersie. :) I'm interested if she will be able to pull off the evilness that we know in Cersie, I don't really know who the actress is but that role had to be given to no less than a near super model.

That's going to be a very tough role to play. Too many actors/actresses seem to think that being evil is easy and simply needs some maniacal laughing and haughty commands. the result is always something akin to a child playing make-believe. Hopefully she can pull it off, as Cersei's power lust and manipulating is so essential.

Mind you, in my last re-reading of ASoIaF she didn't seem quite as devastating as I last remembered her, Petyr Baelish seemed to completely overtake her in the devious race. She seemed more petulant and posing as powerful, with most of her damage stemming from stupid blundering rather than true cunning... Did anyone else find this?

Maybe that's simply because each time I re-read the series, Tyrion just gets better and better. Or because it was only my second re-reading of FfC, which definitely changes the dynamics of power in the stories.

Grrrr. I just put up a decent sized post and the internet ate it :(

I completely agree. Tyrion has her beat by a mile in the brains department, and Littlefinger is a far better manipulator, liar, political operant and sociopath. The on screen cersei will be able to use her best talents in a way that the book Cersei couldn't. She is beautiful and knows how to use her sexuality to her advantage. She won't need to be played as much evil as she will a beautiful woman who he power hungry and isn't afraid to use her body as a weapon.

First off - who's Arya? I know no one by that name...;)

Second, I'm sure I've seen Lena Headey in a couple of things, but the only one I can think of is 300, where she was Leonidas' Queen, Gorgo. I had my doubts about her as Cersei - at least from a purely physical standpoint - but I'm er...warming to her...

It's also a shame that Tamzin Merchant is being/has been re-cast. She made for a very fine Dany.

The Cersei smirk is promising.

Yes, don't really see the poster picture as looking quite like what I imagined. I thought Cersei was paler and more "pneumatic". But if she can pull off the nasty character, then, it doesn't matter to me. If she's got some of the male vote already, that is promising, too!

Holly arakh! This is fantastic news about the Dothraki.

Those posters are great. I printed the Tyrion one "All dwarves are bastards in their father's eyes" and put it in my cubicle. Dinklage as Tyrion! What a dream come true.

Actually, I just seen last night the commercial for the Chris Rock remake of Death at a Funeral (a hillarious movie) with Dinklage in it reviving his original role.

I really like the pictures of Cersei... very headey stuff.

I am almost finished with book #1 Game of Thrones.
I am really happy HBO is doing the series instead of Showtime or another cable. I understand one season will cover one book?

I am avoiding the rest of the threads here on George RR Martin because of possible spoilers.
Can anyone suggest which threads would be safe for one just almost finishing book #1?
Thank you.

Very wise: I did so and do not regret it.

We have a resident genius at just this sort of thing. I expect he'll be able to point you in the right direction if you wait a while. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the book.

I'm not the resident genius, but these words are true. Almost every thread, whether or not labeld as having spoilers, had the potential to contain them. Be VERY careful, as there are events, plot twists etc. that you don't want to have the faintest clue about.

Fairly safe threads... hmmm....

Uh, well we don't have any totally safe threads at the moment.

Wait a tick... try these...

Westeros/Europe size comparison.

Dying Of The Light. It's about a non-ASOIAF novel.

Fevre Dream. Another non-ASOIAF novel. Top notch.

Wild Cards. A series in which GRRM is a contributing writer and the general editor.

What is your Arbor Gold? Very spirited discussion.

Welcome, Conor. I'd like to help you, but there's just not anything related to ASOIAF that's safe for you to read... yet. Even the thread A Game Of Thrones has discussion regarding A Clash Of Kings and A Storm Of Swords. I perused it and only saw some minor to medium spoilers, but I did see the big one... the main point of online theorizing and prognostication... THE BIG ONE (hint: we often write it as a mathematical equation).

I remember first going online to discuss AGOT, ACOK, and ASOS. I did even have a clue as to the math equation... and I was floored when I read it. Read at your own peril.

I'd love to read your posts and get your views after you've caught up with the rest of us.

By the way, I'm the resident comedian. Obviously no one got the joke in my last post... The resident genius in regards to thread knowledge is TK-421... I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

Can I just say to conor in my best Ian McKellan...

Run you fool! Run!

Do not risk spoiling these books for yourself! I would recommend at least finishing A Storm of Swords before reading another post.

Other than that, pleased to meet you...

Shouldn't the fact that no one got your joke discount you from the self-appointed title resident comedian? (I idly wonder what I'm resident of... Resident obstinate, perhaps, for my fervant non-belief in said equation.)

Incidentally, I did get your joke. Is a grimace counted as a laugh?

I confess I got the joke as well. I think *groan* would accurately describe my initial reaction, but I couldn't post it because I was at work when I read it. Sorry Boaz, I didn't mean to ignore your pun :)

Also, for the record, I enjoy jokes even when I groan at them.
